Hello!
I'm trying to gain muscle, but lose fat. Can I do this by eating only meat? If so, how much?
If I follow the bodybuilding sites, they want me to supplement with whey protein isolate, to get the 180gms of protein per day. If I do this with meat only, then I'll have to eat about 38 oz of meat a day, which would be about 2700 calories per day. Can I lose fat on this?

Many people, especially men, can lose weight eating 2700 calories per day. Dean lost fat eating 4000-5000 calories per day. But, I think it's difficult to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.
If it were me, I'd focus on losing the fat first, then focus on gaining the muscle. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Thanks Jeff!
Then after I lose the fat, to gain weight, would the 2700 calories of beef with 185gm protein be enough, or would you recommend more? I figure I'm burning about 2600 calories a day.
I am new to the bodybuilding experience, and don't want to cycle like the pros. I don't want to regain the fat, just to put on muscle, like some others seem to do. |

Figuring the number of calories our bodies use is pure guesswork. But I do know that in order for muscles to grow, the body needs excess calories. You will get stronger without the extra calories, but you won't get bigger. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

If you are new to resistance training, you can put on muscle and lose fat simultaneously.
Even if you're not, its possible. Thing is, your results are much greater if you focus on one or the other at a time.
Alternately, eat as if you were the weight you want to be and your body will eventually catch up. _________________ Viking Dan

I'm eating 3000+ kcal a day and I weight 156-160 lbs.
So 2700 kcal doesn't seem like a lot for somebody who tries to gain weight. But you need to start somewhere. Avoid hunger like a plague.
