I'm due for a visit to my Cardiologist this summer and I'm thinking about telling him about my diet. He knows of my severe insulin resistance and difficulty losing weight and I'm sure he'll ask what I've changed.
My mom has also been begging me to tell him. I've just recently told her my WOE because she wanted to send me some homemade baked goods. She's a vegetarian and surprisingly supportive but still concerned with my health and says 'if it's healthy than why won't you tell your doctor?'
What's the worst case scenario? I get a lecture and he orders blood tests to check my levels? Would that be so bad? I'm kind of curious as to where I'm at since switching to ZC anyway.
Anyone have experience with coming clean to your doc?

I told my doc 5 years ago when I had my last check-up. But that was the first time I had ever seen him. And that was my first check-up in almost 30 years. He did not disapprove of my diet, but he just kind of blew it off as a low calorie diet in disguise.
I wouldn't offer any information, but tell the truth if asked. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

MetalMama...I think jeff's advice is good. That way the door is not opened for any critical comments from the doc. _________________ Bobi

I've given my general practicioner some strong "hints" at which he starts that "well, don't cut out too much _________", and I just kinda grunt, and we move on.
A cardiologist might be tougher to tell.
Confrontation sucks, but they DO work for US. |

I can totally relate, a doctor is the last resort. Emergencies only. _________________

I had to find a new doctor cause mine retired and with my history of stroke I need to check my lipids every now and again.
Last fall had them done. They were so great (and I'm grossly overweight) my doctor didn't even ask what I was eating. She just looked at the numbers and my other lab work and was very happy.
Who am I to shatter her bubble? _________________ Carnivore (Jun 12/09) 227/196.2/137 Max. wt: 247 (Jul-08)

Yeah, Kat......I'm sure she assumes you're eating a "healthy, low-fat diet". _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

I don't use doctors either. I do my own research and come to my own conclusions. It's not that I don't trust doctors, it's that I don't trust what they've been taught. I'd have to be pretty banged up to set foot in a hospital. _________________ State appointed FEMA camp nutrition director

Alex at your age if you keep eating zero carb you'll never have to see a doctor or the inside of a hospital unless you break a leg. _________________ Carnivore (Jun 12/09) 227/196.2/137 Max. wt: 247 (Jul-08)

years ago in Ireland I had a cardiologist who told me I just HAD to lose weight - I had high blood pressure. I said that he just tell em what to do and I would do it because that I had already tried everything. He believed me. I did start Atkins again then and I lost 22 pounds and he was very happy with that.
Now I'm back in the Netherlands and told my doctor about this and he looked at my lipids and said they looked extremely good so no worries. And he said, this is not what I learnt, but yes, meat has everythign you need of course... I promised him I would come back for lipids after six months so we could see the results.
I'm still thinking of taking some B vitamins, but am not sure if we'd need those.
