Thank you Dean for the warm welcome!
I will jump right in with both feet. :)
This is the start of day 5 for me and I'm feeling good with the exception that I woke up in mas pain this morning. Curious. Maybe it's the PUFA in the pork from yesterday? _________________ 314/283/150

Pooti, sometimes pork (including bacon which I love) cause me IBS issues even without carbs. I have no idea why. So I do track how I'm feeling when I eat it. I have no wish to take Donnatel for spasms. That is some strong stuff and it means I am house-bound.
Pork may be a sometime thing for you rather than a regular food.
Beef seems to do me well and curiously pork salami and other Italian pork products never bother me at all. _________________ zero carb |

| Pooteth! Good to see you're on day 4 of zero! It gets easier with time, and it may be the most natural diet for man. Just to set the record straight; I only eat zero-carb about 4 days a week, and I love a good salad every now and then. :) |

The only salad I would ever bother with is one that had some magic mushrooms in it.
But, hey, that's just me.
Craig, will you please fix me one of those? _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

Shamwow! It pays to stay away from the shrooms cuz I forgot about the Busstop and am now only just finding this post to see I've missed out on some serious love from yall!!!!! :D
Miriam - I think you may be right about the pork. I'm inclined to think it may be PUFA related. I ate beef twice yesterday and I woke up with my pain back down to around a 4-5 this morning even though my finger knots are still there. I'm gonna make the pork ribs tomorrow night for dinner so we will see what happens.
Jeff - :hiya: and thanks for the welcome!! I like sitting in the seat behind the busdriver with all the other nerds ;) haha! (I am a nerd. Seriously.)
Snowdog! Dude - I'm just waiting it out. LOL. In all seriousness I thought it would be way harder than it is. As it stands it's only a small amount of time where it's mildly aggravating. No real cravings or anything. Never underestimate the power of fat though! Hewwww doggy!
Lynne - I'm so glad to know you are here as well! Now we just need to post lots in all the forums and get the boards here hoppin so Dean has to get the whip out on us to keep us tame! :D Wooohoooo on your ZC progress sweetie!!!! You rawk!
So far so good. Some hunger the last couple of days. But I think it's ok. I'm about to drop my eggs Miriam *sniff*. Hahahaha but I have found the wonders of buttered cheese! :D _________________ 314/283/150

You're really dropping eggs?
Not forever I hope.
Butter on cheese, haven't been able to wrap my head around that yet.
Any particular cheese? Unsalted butter? How much of each?

OMG you guys! I read about it in Carlos thread over at CWs! I read it yesterday and it haunted me. LOL! I had some emmenthaler in the fridge, still unopened and I sat there last night thinking...hmmmm. Why hell not, right?
So I went and sliced it thin but thick enough to be a butter delivery system and then put a hunk of butter on my plate and sat down with it. I smeared it thickly on each slice of cheese and ate it. Schhhhhwiiiing! Over the fence and outta the park, it was that good!
I felt like saying, "Hey someone put peanut butter on my chocolate!" Cuz a new duo is born for me! Hence forth it will be that something goes together like butter on cheese!
I put a piccy up of the butter and cheese experiment over on my blog at www.todayiatea.blogspot.com Go look at it. I don't think there is a "set" amount to use. I used unsalted butter cuz it was what I had out and softened.
Miriam, girl, I'm ditching eggs tomorrow to see if it helps me. I will ditch them for 3 days. I know I won't do it forever, but maybe I could see cutting them back for weekend consumption only or something like that? I don't know...Say prayers for me! _________________ 314/283/150

Pooti giving up eggs may do you some good. You can always put them back.
I was reading that you may limit the pork as well.
How is your pain today?
I'll pop a prayer for you.

| Pooti, I find that when I'm hungry in the day, just a couple ounces of meat will satisfy that hunger for a couple of hours. So I keep a can of vienna sausages with me when this happens. Why not just carry a meat snack around to prevent your mid-day hunger. You know the power of fat. :) |

I read in your blog that you had amazing success recently with fasting blood sugar levels. I, too, had amazing success today. Last night, my low was 76, and I woke up to an 88, with a post-prandial breakfast high of 108. Normally, I'm lucky to go below 100 -- EVER.
The moon appeared almost full last night, but I suspect you had another method to achieve your success. Can you elaborate on what you did? |

Craig I don't have any secret or reasoning for the low bgs. I'm guessing it is the zc and also that I've taken my eating down to about twice a day so far (but I'm going to be changing that to eating when hungry which may be more times per day). I was so startled to see it back in the 70s and 80s!!!!
Congratulations on your numbers too! They sound like you are really healing. What are you doing?
I like your idea of adding a 1-2oz meat snack for hunger. I will try that today. I'm getting hungry again after eating at 12:30. All I ate was meat, fat, a tbsp of butter. Shoulda been enough to hold me through dinner but I realize I'm just beginning my journey so I will only be held a shorter time between meals. Booo sis. _________________ 314/283/150

I don't think I did anything to warrant the 76 last night, and the 88 this morning, but I did do something. (It wasn't the running; I didn't run until after these two low numbers, and I run frequently too; just not as far.) A couple of weeks ago I went to the new movie theater on 249, the Silverado, and watched a movie. Two hours later, when I returned to my car, I measured my blood sugar and found it to be 90, which is about 10 points lower than it would normally be at that time. Well, the only thing I did during the movie was to slowly drink a diet soda. So, remembering Jimmy Moore's problem, I thought I would try to test this idea out with my blood sugar meter. So for the next couple of days, I drank a diet soda at work, in the morning, and my blood sugar before lunch seemed to be about 10 points lower each time. So, yesterday, I drank diet Dr. Pepper's all day. I only drank two, but I sipped them all day, providing lots of sweet tastes to my senses. By lunch I had a 92, and after lunch, toward the evening, it dropped to 76, which is the second lowest number I've ever recorded in the past 4 months. The lowest number I've ever recorded was a 68 after 4 hours of strenuous exercise, 6 weeks ago.
Today, I had great numbers all day, and when my fasting level goes up again, I'll test this idea again until I see if it's something real, or if it's just been a few coincidences. |

Wow so what is the physiology going on with that? Maybe an insulin surge in response to the sweet taste that clears sugar from your blood?
I haven't had any diet pop in so long I don't know what I would do with it.
We haven't been to the new Silverado yet. We haven't been to the Movie Tavern either. Was it a cool experience? Did you go to one of the regular theater rooms or did you go to the IMAX? _________________ 314/283/150

I went to the regular theater part of the Silverado. It's my favorite theater now. It's clean, and offers self-serve drinks. I miss the popcorn.
I had to stop my diet soda experiment because my blood sugars are now averaging about 20 points below the levels they've been for the past 4 months. It started on Thursday, the day I spent sipping on the diet Dr. Pepper, but I think something else is going on. Maybe my insulin resistance finally 'broke'. My daily lows are now near 80 and my highs are near 100. |

Craig that is just soooooo awesome dude! You aren't worried are you? Do you take any medication??? I bet it's far more likely your insulin resistance has broken through!! Also, your running is likely affecting it. Congratulations!!!!!!!
Hey btw, you look so familiar. Are you a member of the Tomball Chamber of Commerce by any chance? _________________ 314/283/150

Nope, not a member of the Tomball Chamber of Commerce, and my profile is a bit different now that I've lost all this weight. I'll have to post a new picture soon.
I am certainly not worried about the low blood sugars, and I'm not on medication, but I suspect they'll flip back. It's hard getting information out of people. Those who have success stop posting on the boards, and the majority of those on the boards are still overweight and trying to get their blood sugars lower. I have read posts from some people, though, who say that their lighter selves have far better blood sugar control than their heavier selves. I just don't know what that means. Does it mean that they have lower fasting blood sugar levels, or does it mean that they can simply eat more carbs without moving their blood sugar significantly. I think we need to find thin people and test their blood sugar. Perhaps everyone who is thin has lower blood sugar levels.
You might consider taking a look at Dr. Bernstein's forum. There is lots of good information there on blood sugar control. For some reason, though, it's been down today.

I agree that it sure seems like once someone is successful they leave and only come back if they have regained. I too would like to know what happens once people are thin.
I have been to Bernsteins site a lot. I have read his book a number of times and tried his diet. I was constantly hungry on it too. I was dissatisfied with only eating 4-5oz of protein at a sitting and limiting my carbs to 6-12-12. I always wanted either more protein or more carbs. Before starting vlc in preparation to zc I essentially did his plan except I would not be very good about fluctuating carbs. I would go between 30-50g of carbs daily, usually having them split between meals. My protein was generally between 3-5oz at a sitting.
BTW, I tried only eating one burger this morning. I was hungry in two hours and couldn't resist so went and ate a fatty pork rib. I've now been satisfied for about 3 hours. I think it's not so good to leave the table hungry because I do agree with Bernstein it's good to go 5-6 hours between meals so things fully digest and the glucose cycle fully goes back to pre-prandial levels. If I eat 3 meals and 2 snax a day then I'm essentially grazing every 2-3 hours and that causes a constant elevation of my blood sugar. I have some gastroparesis so in my thinking it's not a very good thing to do... _________________ 314/283/150
