Hi Shane, glad you found us!  Boy, I wish I had discovered ZC, or even
LC when I was your age.  You are so lucky.

You'll always be safe eating meat and water.  Beef, chicken, pork, fish.....they're all fine.  Some people do well adding things like cheese, cream, butter.  Some do OK with some non-starchy veggies, but even these can cause problems for alot of people.

How did you eat previous to this?  Do you need to lose weight?

Be sure to check out the stickies.  Lots of good info there that may answer alot of your questions.

Welcome aboard the Bus.  Enjoy the ride.

Any animal flesh is fine, with the exception of getting all your protein from liver due to Vit A toxicity.

Here's my menu for the last few days:

4/22
After morning workout: 2lbs of 73/27 ground beef, fried/rare

Tonight: 2-3 Cornish Hens fried/rare

4/21

4 beef patties with 2oz of shredded hard cheese

23oz Prime rib

4/20

4 beef patties with 2 oz cheese

whole fried chicken in 1/4lb of butter (no seasoning or batter)

4/19

4 beef patties with cheese and 3 eggs

1 whole lamb head ( whole face eaten, including eyes, tongue and brain)

4/18

Beef patties w/eggs & cheese

3lb beef tongue, boiled

I eat plants rarely: 1-2 whole fried mushrooms with my steak, a small piece of fresh coconut for desert, fry a slice or two of tomatoes with my burgers sometimes, but other than those, I don't use any seasoning, fruits or veggies.

Body composition and performance seem to improve when I keep carbs between 0-5gs so under 5gs it is for me, if you want to add fruits, veggies and grains, then IMO it's no longer a carnivorous diet, but a low carb diet, which is fine if you're doing well on it.

Variety is for the mind.  Fresh meat has all the nutrients your body needs.  I'd stay away from fruits altogether.  Since you are young and very active, a few non-starchy veggies would probably not do much harm, but they are certainly not necessary for good health.  I know of no good substitute for bread.  Just consider bread a non-food and be done with it.

Calories matter, in fact, the only way to lose weight is to be in a negative calorie balance.

If someone tells you otherwise, ask them to show you their paper on disproving the laws of thermodynamics and then post it here, I'd like to see it.

Yes, I'm managing to lose body fat, I'm in a calorie deficit right now, mainly through exercise and a little bit through controlling food intake.

Dean lost weight while eating 5,000 calories per day and not exercising.  And he was not all the much overweight.  He believes his daily energy needs were around 2,000 calories per day.

Since then, looking at journals and my own experience, I can say that a lot of "facts" are not facts anymore on ZC, it's a completely different animal than med-high carb, even low carb.

The calorie theory looks like it "might" have some uses but not as expected.
