I was reading Men's Health (Feb '08) at the gym yesterday (guess their subscription's not quite up to date, lol), and there was a tiny newsblurb that cited a study along these lines...I'm guess it was the same thing as this article.  Anyway, they recommended a high fat snack before exercise, and elsewhere on that page had another "low-carb = lose more fat yayz!" item.

Of course, a few pages later the magazine went on to recommend that guys should start off their day with a hearty, energy-packed plate of multigrain waffles and berries Roll Eyes , but you know...baby steps...

btw...just for the record, Men's Health is waaay more interesting than Women's Health.  Of course, it helps that they've got all those illustrative photos of men with washboard abs to accompany the articles... Devil

I find the Men's Health articles to be fairly low carb friendly.

I also love Men's Health.  It has much better workout information than many of the women's magazines... and the pictures of hot men are a real bonus. hehe Devil   It helps get the blood pumping.  LOL

I can't eat anything within a few hours of a hardcore run, so I usually eat big the night before if it's early or I'll wait a few hours after eating. I do find that high fat does wonders for my workout.

I prefer to run on an empty stomach as well.  If I eat before a run, it has to be at least 2-3 hours before.

I like to workout on an empty stomach, as well.  I tend to do my workouts first thing in the morning, so that makes it easy.

I can go just as hard and long without eating beforehand... and I think even better.  This way your body isn't trying to digest at the same time.  This is another thing that flies in the face of the mainstream teachings.  I am sure that eating so much protein and fat is part of the difference.  Those eating the SAD might deal more with low blood sugars.

I used to do this by having a tablespoon of coconut oil in my coffee before my morning run. I read this in men's health as well, but could never find the article again.

I can't drink before I run either though. Confused Maybe just melt fat and use a shot glass but I don't know if that would work, I'd be afraid it would come back up after I start running.

If you did it at least a half an hour before running, I think that would be ok, don't you?
