Hello all!

I became familiar with the low carb lifestyle just 4 months ago when I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2. Through research on the web, I came to learn that I can control my blood sugar by restricting my carbohydrate intake. This led me to Jimmy Moore's site, which led me to zerocarbage.com, which led me here.

Previously I was a vegetarian, That diet almost killed me. Now I must walk the Earth as a vampire, stealing the life out of other living creatures for my sustenance. So I am now with you, but I am not one of you. I join you in flesh, but I am not with you in spirit.

Craig

But Snow you are a vegetarian.

You're just eating the veggies after they have been turned into prime human food.     LOL

Welcome to the Magic Bus, Craig!

I think what you may need is the red pill... washed down with a glass of Shawn's finest kitchen clean batch of Kool-Aid. Cool

At the back of the Bus, of course. Devil

Along with my diagnosis of diabetes, came the knowledge from the good doctor, that less weight, more muscle, and a stronger cardiovascular system, would improve my ability to process carbohydrates.

Great... so now I have to run everyday...

I started running in late October. I did well: I found myself able to run for 20... 30 feet at a stretch. But apparently, this wasn't good enough... So I tried to run by time, and tried to increase the time that I ran. After about a month, I made it up to 3 minutes, non-stop. Then it was too tough for me, so I backed off to 4 cycles of 2 minutes each, separated by 2 minute rests. This worked -- once! Then I found that I had pulled something in my right knee; so I couldn't run. Well, after two weeks, this last Friday, my knee had healed and I tried running again. I only ran for a minute, but I had no pain, so I tried again on Sunday. On Sunday, I found that I could completely out-do my previous performance, running for 3 cyles of 2 minutes, followed by the last cycle of 3 minutes. Then, just yesterday, I was able to run 3 cycles of 3 minutes each, following by the last cycle of 4 minutes, with only 1 minute between cycles -- and it was EASY!

So tomorrow, I'm going to attempt to run for the the full 17 minutes, non-stop, which would probably involve a distance of about 2 1/2 miles or so. However, I plan to drink heavily tonight, so all bets may be off for tomorrow's launch. And I can't tolerate any pain, so if it's not easy, I'll quit fast. But I'm excited about it... If I don't break any more lower body parts, I think I can make this happen in short order. It's no longer difficult.

We'll see...

Craig

Am I like the slowest runner ever? Roll Eyes

Also, I started with 4 minutes "walking" on the treadmill. My body hated me, but I persevered. Now I can run a long ways without stopping. I just can't seem to get the "speed" thing going on.

Quick question for the accountant: Was that three years ago when this journey began over there?

I measured the distance I ran, and it is only about 1 1/4 miles -- but it was still 17 minutes, which is great for me!

So, you're no longer the slowest runner. :)

Actually your practice of running then stopping( or running at a slower pace) then running is interval training. Interval training is more effective IMO than long slow boring cardio and carries more benefits. Plus you get done quicker.

No question about it.  If you're going to run, intervals is the way to go.  Having said that, I think a little variety is good too, though.

Yep from the books I have read on interval training (which I have also done) you don't want to make this ALL you do necessarily. You need recoverey time. A little slow cardio is OK on the other days.

I'm following Bill Phillips' routine with 3 days of weight training, intermixed with 3 days of cardio. My running pattern is a 20 minute pattern which starts with 2 walking minutes, and ends with 1 walking minute. In between I jog for 3 minutes and then run for 1 minute. I follow this pattern 4 times and end with an additional minute of running. Altogether, it's 12 minutes of jogging, 5 minutes of running, and 3 minutes of walking.

Hello Craig, welcome to the Bus.  I was diagnosed last year as borderline diabetic and am doing this mainly for medical reasons and weight loss. I hope we can both reverse out diabetes status.

My doctor put me on Metformin and I am very much hoping to be off of it within a year, hopefully sooner.  Best of luck to you on your journey!!

y0u. Happy
