Someone on another forum said that it was.
What are your thoughts?

| It's a little out of context for me. What does it mean to you? Is the question really as to whether it is an eating disorder, or more about the groupee disposition? |

ANY WOE can turn into an "eating disorder".
If you feel that it is for you, it's probably time to reevaluate what you're doing and why. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

If it's healthy, I don't see how it can be considered a disorder. I have seen zero evidence that ZC is unhealthy. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

I do not believe that ZC is an eating disorder.
I do believe that in time, many people will rally around this as they learn more about it.
And no one is going to learn more about this than the people in the forums... and then they can go out and spread the gospel...
I do not believe that this WOL would cause damage to anyone.
that's my peace and i'm sticking to it. _________________ "Failure is an opportunity to start again more intelligently." |

The Gospel according to whom?!
Lynne, how much of Shawn's latest batch have you been drinking?
An eating disorder has NOTHING to do with the content of the food being eaten. It is a psychological disorder that is about control. The food being eaten is irrelevant to the disorder. That's not to say that it may not be caused by malnutrition, or can be helped a great deal by better nutrition.
What is this thread about, anyway? I don't get it. It appears that it might need to be deleted.
Again... slow down on the Kool-Aid, guys. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

Hi All!
Having been on this WOE for going on 4 years, at age 62, I have never felt better, am in great shape with plenty of energy and a controlled blood pressure problem, which had NOT been controlled in 40 years in any traditional treatment plan.
My 2 cents! _________________ Bobi

On the eating disorder question... I think most people throw that phrase around for any way of eating that makes them uncomfortable. If they can't imagine doing it themselves, then there must be something wrong with it, right? Uh, no. I get this kind of reaction from people all the time if they find out about my Intermittent Fasting. They just have a knee- jerk reaction, and have no interest in the science behind it.
I say, to each their own. If it is enhancing your life, and not harming you, then why do they care so much??? |

A true eating disorder is going to have lots of other issues associated with it, including interference with the functioning of one's life and causing one undue stress, and a whole host of other problems. It is a psychological problem that interferes with a person's emotional or physical health, their relationships, productivity, life activities and adjustment. Someone with an eating disorder is typically obsessed with every aspect of food and body image. Think neurotic behavior. It's based in a need for control, but, it does not solve this need, but, rather, it confounds the problems.
If LC, VLC, ZC, Carnivore, Vegan, or any other WOE is NOT causing these problems for an individual, then it's NOT an eating disorder. Eating disorders have nothing to do with what a person eats! It is just a manifestation of some emotional issues that need to be resolved, and food (and body image) happen to be the device that is used. People throw this term around, like many psychological disorder terms, and they label people so as to feel superior to them, or to explain behavior that is outside their comfort zone. That's ethnocentrism at it's finest. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

I'll tell you what is an eating disorder, it is ferociously, tenaciously, emotionally grasping onto your carb laden comfort foods come hell or high water (or Type 2 diabetes) and telling others who are getting healthier by the minute that their "crazy" way of eating is a "disorder".
When everyone else is crazy, the truly sane are locked away.

y'know heather, i think you're right here... |
exactly, but as Dean said any diet taken to the extreme can be an eating disorder- (I was very bulimic I know) I would take any diet, I tried em all and just cut further and count calories- and hence an ED, or a super limited diet, especially the damn vegan diet, its the number 1 ED diet of choice with all its limitations and lack of dietary fat... |

I hear ya, Amanda.
I don't understand the extremity, myself.
I think it's a matter of finding a balance. There is a way for each of us to do carnivore eating, getting all that good animal fat and muscle, but, at the same time, enjoying our life... and our food is part of that. Anyway, Bear obviously thinks so, considering all the variety he has in his diet.
I'm on a constant evolving path to find the way to eat that is both appetizing and nutritious, and is going to free me from being obsessed with any food or regimen. I'm getting closer all the time. I feel great with what I'm doing, and am gonna just keep on goin' in this direction.
I'm hoping everyone will find their own particular way as well. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

I think that some of the "eating disorder" idea comes from the more draconian of the ZCers, who won't even use salt or seasonings and say things like "food shouldn't be entertainment." I enjoy food that tastes good. A nice rare steak with sea salt is one of the tastiest things ever. _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "you know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."
