May Day Mayhem Challenge

This is not a call for an armed communist revolution, but, in the Ward you never know what may be cookin'. Wink

If you wanna lose some weight or gain some muscle or just ride roughshod all over the Ward, this might just be the wing to explore. Spring is here and it's crystal clear that those who wish to spring forward will end up ahead of those who are falling backward. Although, that really hasn't been scientifically proven enough for AC, so don't quote me on that one. Grin

Anyway, come up with a personal plan and try to see if you can get somewhere over the next month. You never know, you just might surprise yourself. At the very least you will have the satisfaction of knowing you tried, which is a lot more than most will admit to. Cool

Sunny

i am so ready for a challenge..
i'm working out and eating my fat/protein & water!

i'd like to see 10 lbs down, but i know that the exercising will stall that!
but who knows... maybe i'll be able to pull on a size 8-9 slacks!!!!

thanks for doing this dean!

Sounds good Dean!

I'll come up with some kind of build muscle strategy.  I had a bad arthritis flare in my good knee and ended up having to do PT.  I am enjoying the exercises, the knee is showing some improvement, and I feel like exploring something more.

Sounds good, Dean...I'm just going to stick with what I've been doing for the last 4 years.  It works well for me.  Meat, fish, poultry, coffee, tea, HC, Cheese, mayo, and butter!!  An occasional tomato, pickle or olive...rare.  I also like to indulge in Cocoa mixed with Vanilla Whey Protein as an occasional sweet treat.

I know...sounds boring!  But it works for me. LOL

Love the name of the challenge.. Wink

I've been exercising for a whole month now..regularly..so I would like to continue along that line..and see if it makes my weight drop.  I would also like to continue eating how I have been..which is basically carnivore with a tad of cream..and extremely limited cheese.  Vegetable experimentation once in a while...mostly fermented kraut and avocados..a tad of salsa on my eggs.

Exercise goals for May Day Mayhem:
ride my bike 50 miles a week (or more) and maybe try a hill.
50 crunches a day (or more)
Complete the 100 push-up program (I can do 52 now)
1 hour fast paced walk a day (or more)
60 squats  a day

Eating:
Stop obsessing about calories
Keep protein to around 75 grams a day (it's an experiment)

Mental Health:
Visualize happiness..and make it happen
Go fishing more
Enjoy my garden

Thanks for setting this up Dean..much appreciated. Big Hug

I'm new to the Ward but, I have been eating pretty much the same as a lot of folks here.
I'd like to muscle up a bit and get stronger.
My plan: Tabata 3 times a week
Planks and arms/shoulders on off days.

I eat very lowcarb and gluten free.

I'm in for a challenge - I really need to get my butt in gear.

Here's what I plan on eating this month:

All meat/seafood
Cheese
Condiments/Olives/Small amounts of tomato sauce
Nuts
Water

I also am determined to add some exercise this month - I need to build some endurance as I get winded just walking up stairs. I have a treadmill and some free weights. No idea what the plan is yet but I've got to start doing something as I'd like to do some hiking and biking this fall.

I'm aiming for 620 minutes of exercise this month. I have been slacking big time and need to get back in the swing of things. I am also under huge stress and I'm hoping exercise will help me deal with it.

My challenge for this month is pretty simple...

Wine + Devil = no desire for carbs. Wink

And I'm stickin' to it. Grin

Day 2

Food:
Ribeye
eggs with salsa and mexican crema and 1/3 avocado
butter
.5 oz walnuts
bacon
1/2 decaf
heavy cream

Exercise:
5 mile bike ride, 2 hour walk, 50 crunches, 60 squats
I was going to ride 20 miles today but 2.5 miles out there were torential rains/hail/winds..it sucked!!..so I turned around..dried off my cloths and walked in the rain for 2 hours...so there!!!

I think I found a really cheap used place to get some dumbells ...a friend is helping me out..were doing a trade..and you can trade in your hex's for heavier ones when your done with the lighter ones at this place..how cool is that?..so I'll get some 10's and 15's..that will work for a while..

I'm in. :)

I eat bacon, eggs, burger patties, and ribeye steaks. Oh, and a cup or 2 at the most of black coffee. That is all I can tolerate anymore without gaining weight or having physical problems or allergies.

Getting on and starting is always the hardest part. Give yourself lots of credit! Yup

I rode my bike Friday for 14 km, I think I was just under an hour. It's been a while since I really pushed my body but damn I love feeling the burn. I think I will go again today, gotta love challenging those hills.

No exercise today - I ended up shlepping my two year old around furniture stores all day - exhausting to say the least, but found what I wanted.

I need to cut out the bacon and cheese and see if that helps me out some.  I've lost 45.8 pounds since Jan. 2.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining.  The weird thing is that in March I went off my diet completely for 6 days and lost 8.6 pounds for the month.  This month I stayed on my diet completely and only lost 7.8 pounds.  The first two months, I lost 15 pounds each month.   I ate quite a bit of bacon in April and ocassional cheese.  I'm not exercising at all right now.  Some of told me that it will just increase my appetite and won't help me lose weight so I'm not sure what to do.

Today though I ate cheese.

2 double cheeseburgers less buns for lunch from Burger King.  I told them plain but they put ketchup, mustard and pickle on it.

For dinner I ate about 6-7 slices of swiss cheese and 2 cheese steaks and a new york strip steak.

Day 4

Food:

eggs with mexican crema and salsa and bacon
steak leftovers
chicken wings with jerk marinade
1 oz walnuts
1/3 avocado
heavy cream
1 cup of 1/2 decaf not 2..ok I'm weaning..

Exercise:

2 sets of 10 reps of various dumb bell exercises with 10# weights (see journal if you really want to know)

63 push-ups(yep..I'm a girl and I can do 63 friggin push-ups)
50 crunches
60 squats
2 hour walk
It's pouring out so no bike ride. Bonkers

I weighed myself today..I did not lose any weight this week..I don't wanna talk about it...so there.  Sad

As long as yOu are losing inches, ignore the scale.  I look at weight the same way I look at total cholesterol.  It really doesn't tell you much.

My date didn't go so well it was freakin cold so I turned around and went home, I haven't been able to warm up since. Then when I got home, I had to take a kid to the hospital because he broke his wrist and I stayed up until 6 am.

Day 8

Food

rumaki (chicken liver, bacon, water chestnut)
1/2 a cornish game hen
2 cups of lettuce
1/2 oz walnuts
1/2 an apple
1/3 avocado
.5 oz gorgonzola
1 tbs ranch (homemade)
dragon phoenix tea (look mah 4 days no coffee)

I am not sure why I thought I would not eat a few apples if I bought them..sure are tasty..and i don't even like apples...same with the walnuts...and the avocado..I sure did enjoy my salad.

the apple I ate yesterday didn't do anything particularly weird to me..oh wait..I passed gas for the first time in 4 months...pardon me.

Exercise, 3 sets of 12 reps dumb bell exercises, 50 crunches, 82 push-ups, 10 mile bike ride, 1 hour walk.

5/8/09

6 breakfast sausages @ cafeteria @ work (I haven't had these in 2 weeks, gave them up for the $$$ and not sure if they are causing problems for me. I sneezed for an hour after eating them!)

Egg salad (just eggs and mayo, really kills the hunger fast)

3 burger patties from Burger King (was hungry, on way home from work, didn't feel like cooking)

TOO MUCH BLACK COFFEE :(

Heather, so sad about your child and being in the ER for so long! Ugh. It's supposed to get colder her this weekend. Big thunder storm going through right now.
