How far is it from Dean's? (It is way too far from my place.) I propose we challenge each other to either walk or run or swim that distance. I'm up for it, I need some motivation.
Let me know the distance and I will start moving.

I have no idea how long it will take, I just need some motivation, even if it takes months.
I really love challenges, with a goal, otherwise I can't figure out what to do and get really lost.
Was the distance posted in someone's journal? I will go check and see if I can find it. |

I guessed 1024 miles. That's alot of miles. And if I did 3 miles a day, that would take me almost a year. I may have to round down a bit or alot. |

What about a 60 day challenge? I can do that.
I think 60 days is October 14.
So, what do the rest of you want to do in 60 days? Time, distance, laps, etc.
My personal challenge will be 180 miles in 60 days. It is an average of 3 miles per day, but some days will be longer and some shorter. |

Anyone is invited to add your name to the list with your goal.
Copy and paste the most recent list and update your goal as you complete some.
Choose your own personal goal, you do not need to do the same as me and choose whichever way you want to measure.

I think it would be better if we all meet at the beach in Panama City! You'll go near my house in route and can stop in for a drink.
Here's the route: http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?n...a+City%2C+FLORIDA&tcountry=us
Or you can all pretend you live exactly 1000 miles from me and see how long it takes you to walk, run, swim, or cycle it.
Gee, if I got company coming I better start cleaning house! _________________ We routinely underestimate the magnitude of our own significance.--Maureen Waller |

Suzanne,
It's actually 1014 miles from me to you.
And I guess I need to get going. I have decided to walk. I don't like running. Now that I've been "taken care of" up here... I am not in quite the hurry that I was. But, I still wanna come... I mean... OK... we'll take care of that when I get there!
I will plot my progress on this map... so you know where I am, and just how quick you need to get ready for my arrival.

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTT ... it's 2,056 miles from Cody to Panama City (didn't I guess 2000??), so at an average of 2.5 miles per day of walking, I might get there before I'm eligible for Social Security.
No, really.........it'll take me 823 days, or over two years.
Hmm....if I was really walking, I would have stopped at Dean's to play house and never moved on...

Ok, I'm up for this. My participation will be multi-faceted....I will join Heather in running 180 miles in 60 days. Then, since Panama City Beach is one of my favorite places to go, I will continue on to there. It should take me about 12 months to get there, since I believe it is about 1100 miles. Then, after I get to PCB, I will transfer those miles into a northwesterly direction, heading toward Edmonton, because I want to see if Heather is just as pretty in person as she is in her pictures. This is a total of 1600 miles, and at an average of 3 miles per day, I should be on Heather's doorstep in about a year and a half. What the hell am I thinking??? Oh well, that's my challenge, and Im sticking to it. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Well... since my progress is not going to look too good on that large map... I'm also providing a zoom view.
Startin' downtown KC (where my best friend lives )... and goin' on a ROAD TRIP!
And, no... that thumb does NOT mean I'm gonna hitch hike!

Okay, i'd like to do this!
1,068 miles for me.
Okay, i'm doing weight lifting, elliptical machine, and walking.
I think i'll have to figure out in minutes, it's how long I do all my workouts.
Anyone have an idea of how to figure out how I can do minutes for miles for my challenge?
Thx, this should be great, Jessica |

Jessica, I'll be right over to pick you up. We can travel to Florida together.
Here's what you can do....figure out how long it takes you to walk a mile. Then, when you do some other form of exercise for that amount of time, consider it a mile. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

I guess I need to be a bit more specific about my challenge goals. Well, 180 miles in 60 days is clear enough. 1100 miles to PCB, Florida, lets make August 15, 2007 the target date for that. And 1600 miles to Edmonton, lets make February 14, 2008 the target date for that. That's a year and a half. And it also happens to be Valentines's Day...isn't that quite a coincidence? _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Hmmm i'll need a few hours to pack!
Okay, I checked fitday.com and it looks like a brisk pace of walking is @ 4 miles per hour.
Tonight I did a half hour combo of squats and my elliptical. So that is 2 miles.
Where do we post/keep track of our miles? Are we all creating individual logs under the exercise section?
1066 miles to go!!!

jeff,
Thanks for the suggestion. I think I am also going to aim for Day, 2008. One and a half years to reach Suzanne's.
That is an average of 13 miles per week. I will shoot for this, and post my progress once a week, by updating my map.
Here I come, Suzanne... I'm headin' out tomorrow. You have a year and a half to get ready for me.
So, start gettin' those toys in order. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

I'm so glad that I've motivated ya'll. Now....wanna make this really fun?
Put a dollar a mile in a jar.....then...when you get through virtually walking to visit me....you'll have more than enough to fly down and party in Panama City in REAL life! AND you'll have hard bodies too! Whooo hooo! I wonder if Dean could hand Susanne and me at the same time!

One thread is way better for a challenge, we need to entertain each other and keep each other motivated.
If you want to keep track, everybody can type in their name, progress and goal. I will have more free time this evening and can update the progress and names.
Suzanne, I really like the idea of saving $1 for each mile. |

Since I live in Edmonton, I'll let Heather do all the walking, cheer her on, and I'll stay here and greet everyone Actually, I'm starting squats today. Can that translated into mileage somehow? Sure it will take years longer to get anywhere, but it's the trip that counts right? _________________ Carnivore (Jun 12/09) 227/197.8/137 Max. wt: 247 (Jul-08)

If anyone else wants to join, copy and paste the list and add your name. Change your goal, if you want to go further. You can use whichever way you want to measure, no need to actually walk or run miles. Do squats, swim, bike, or time, whatever works for you.
Don't forget to save $1 for each.
Everytime you complete some, copy/paste and update the list. Use the last list posted. |

Okay, here's how I'm going to do mine:
deadlifts (max weight): 1/10 of a mile
squats (max weight): 1/10 of a mile
presses (max weight): 1/10 of a mile
each muscle group worked: 1/2 of a mile
20 minutes cardio, high intensity: 1 mile
30 minutes cardio, moderate intensity: 1 mile
Of course, if I actually bike or walk somewhere that I can measure, those will be standard miles.
How does this sound to everyone? |

That sounds good Alisa! I'd do 15 minutes of high intensity cardio per mile and lower the mod intensity cardio. |

Only 999 miles to go!
And Heather, I will take your advice:
15 minutes high intensity cardio: 1 mile

Well, you've got a point there, Bobi. I'm just trying to figure out a way to get Dean motivated to start exercising again. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Sounds like a PLAN!
I guess I gotta wait awhile for Susanne to get here. Works for me!
While I'm waitin'... I'll just go back to my favorite exercise. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.
