Hi all,
As most of you know, i've been at the zero carb thing for awhile now. :) I'm not exactly 100% zero carb. Basically I eat steaks (ribeye), ground beef patties, fried eggs, and bacon.
Question for everyone, every time i've had a ribeye steak lately, I get really strong cravings for junk (chocolate/cake/cookies type of junk). It's really weird. I've only been eating ribeyes for my steak choice.
I do not get that when I eat fried eggs, bacon, or the beef patties. In contrast, they (for a small amount) really satisfy me. I cook my ribeyes in either beef fat or pork fat. I don't use anything on on stuff anymore (not even salt or pepper).
I do drink 1-2 cups of black coffee a day (regular).
Anyway, just curious if anyone has any thought why i'm having this problem with ribeyes? I don't think I had this problem awhile back.
The cravings take a long time to go away too (like several hours) and I need to usually have bacon, fried eggs, or a beef patty or 2 to make them go away.
Thanks! :)

Are you buying your steaks at Walmart? I heard they put weird stuff in their meat. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

Gee Whiz, Jessica...I agree with Jeff on this one! I've never had any experiences like yours and I eat lots of ribeyes.
Sorry I don't have any ideas. _________________ Bobi

Yes, I guess i'm a hard case to crack.
We get our ribeyes from Pick n Save. It's a local chain store near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I get the ground beef for my burger patties from the same place, no problems. the only thing I can think of, is maybe to have some extra fat (like bacon) along with a ribeye and see how that goes. It's like my body is screaming "I need more fat" after I have a ribeye. Maybe the ribeyes we've been getting don't have a lot of fat on them?
Thanks for trying to help! |

Just another thought...
I think i'll buy a ribeye from a different store this weekend (one of the more upscale ones) and see what happens... i'll let you all know! |

Jessica, I get to know the meat cutters at my stores and ask them to cut me untrimmed steaks..they are happy to do that for me...I bet your would too.

You might try adding a slab of butter to the top and let it melt...yummy!!! _________________ Bobi

How are you cooking them?
Not that I have any answers but it might be fun to exchange recipes....
Just kidding.
Didn't Kristelle have some specific issues with beef? Or was it beef that she didn't have issues with? Or was it the fat? Or was it the way it was cooked? Sorry my memory severely fails me today. _________________

wow my ribeyes have fat but not as much in the picture you posted! Wow!
Thanks Heather, i'll check out Kristelle's journal and see what she had to say.
Btw, I had a ribeye last night from the same batch, and I was fine.
???
Maybe it was my body needing more food/energy that day or something.
I will add more fat to my steaks either way. I hope that helps.
thanks again, I really appreciate you all.
