"Food" that no longer looks like foodMy fella and I went to Costco yesterday. There's a Baskin Robbins nearby, and he usually goes and gets some Brownie Explosion thing when we're done our shopping. It's soft ice cream with a brownie and chocolate syrup.
It doesn't even look like food to me. It even smells weird. It's that fake food smell - maybe it's chemicals, I don't know, but it smells nasty and sickly sweet. And the ice cream doesn't look like ice cream. A year or so ago, I'd probably have eaten it, even just to avoid feeling deprived - now, I don;t feel deprived at all bc I really don't want it.
So much "food" now strikes me as being hyper-real, jacked up versions of foods that could just as easily be made naturally. I find I am really noticing the falseness of a lot of foods, in appearance and smell.
Yesterday I made a steak and green beans in the same amount of time it took my fella to go to Burger King and get takeout.
What foods are looking fake to you guys? Are there foods you used to love that now strike you as being fake? Any fake foods you still indulge in from time to time? Now and then I'll rip in to a bag of chips - sometimes they taste good, sometimes they taste like utter crap.

I used to eat that stuff too, and loved it. Now I can't believe they even make it for human consumption.
Frozen meals of all sorts really sick me out now too. I used to eat Skillet Sensations, but now it looks like toy food. All the veggies in uniform shapes, little discs of gravy - blech.
Mind you, if I could I'd still chow down on Kraft Dinner once in a while. A sickening pleasure. :) Something about that flourescent powdered cheese...
