1 Day-at-a-time Carb Addicts ChallengeI'm starting a one-day-at-a-time carb addicts challenge. Can't keep up with those demanding 3 and 7 day challenges Dean is starting up at least not at the moment.
Starting tomorrow cause I blew it today.

You're funny, Kateryna - but just so you know, this is actually how I do it.
I just try to eat low carb/on plan just for today.
And it works. Don't worry about tomorrow. You can just do it for today.
|
Suzanne
|
And Monday I'll join you.

kateryna

Allright!
Thought you'd sneak that 191 weight by me huh Susanne? Well I may be old but I'm not senile, yet. Looks like you're on a roll, I mean getting rid of all your rolls.
CONGRATULATIONS SUSANNE !!!!!!

Is there room for another bus member in here? I had a very minor screw up last night... but, a screw up is a screw up... and I need to start over.
I did good so far today... ate some burger. I must continue eating throughout the day... need to remind myself to eat, since I have zero hunger on this carnivorous woe.
I can do this... I know I can!
|
kateryna
|
Dean, you call that a screw up? Everyone sets their own standards bar I guess. But hell, I think you just wanted to join us gals here at the 1-day-at-a-time carb addicts challenge thread and we are very glad you did.

Depending on your plan or expectations of yourself, screw-ups can be a fairly subjective thing.
Like today, I ate a pickle spear. Now, this really isn't a big deal - it's not a 3 layer real chocolate cake. But pickles aren't generally something I eat. They are acceptable on Atkins...but...you get the idea. As Alisa tells me regularly, my screw-up days look like other folk's regular plan days. Just depends on one's perspective, I guess. SOME things are NEVER acceptable on my plan/Atkins...and I do not go there, one day at a time.
Thanks for the kudos, Kateryna - I really wasn't trying to get over on ya...hoping to inspire y'all to more dedication. The more I behave, the more I lose. I'm absolutely sure the pickle won't slow me down.

kateryna,
First of all... I don't normally eat any processed meat... and hot dogs are very processed in my books. I just make the exception in the Fall, cuz I love roasting a couple over the campfire... but, only over the campfire.
Second of all... if I allow myself to eat off plan in any way, and say "oh, it's no big deal, I'm not even going to report that"... I am opening myself up to certain doom... slippery slopes! So... it might not seem like much of a screw up, and it really isn't from a nutrient perspective. BUT... from a psychological perspective, it IS one... and if I simply admit to it, and move on... only then will I be able to stick to my woe long term.
If I could eat nothing but raw red meat and fat, and nothing else... that is exactly what I would do. But, I know that is totally not possible. So, everything else that I do eat is a compromise... a balancing act... balancing the mental with the physical. So, if I allow myself hot dogs in front of the campfire during the Fall... or certain condiments on my meat, etc... then, I won't rebel and go eat a bunch of junk food. Even my cheating is always contained... I stick to donuts only. I had started to drift into cookies and pizza this last time around, and that is why there are now these challenges in here! I knew right then and there that I had gone WAY too far. So... thanks to everyone's support on the bus, I have been able to get back on plan!
So... it's been nice being in this thread... but, I'm movin' on...
CUZ... no screw ups today!
I ate a burger early in the day... and then in the afternoon I ate a huge steak (mostly raw) with some butter. That stayed with me for a long time! And, I just put three pans of chicken wings in the oven! Those are basted with butter and red hot sauce! I can't wait till they are done! mmmmmmmmm
I love eating carnivorously!
So... see ya all in the 3 Day Challenge!

OK... I'm BACK!
Didn't think I was gonna give up completely, did ya?
DAY ONE successfully completed!

Well, the turkey day holiday food is now gone. I ate that up before December got here. Yesterday I got through the whole day eating on plan! I had beef and eggs and some wine... and, of course, some coffee. I am on plan today as well... have had a nice angus burger and coffee so far. I have a bunch of hard boiled eggs I am going to turn into deviled eggs today.
This is not really hard to stick to... cuz, I know my waistline is going to get where it needs to be... and, I think I will be much healthier with very few carbs in my diet. I am not going to worry if I eat some fruits and veggies (whole foods). However, I really doubt I will, since I just don't have a desire to. It has always been those starchy carbs, like bakery sweets that have been my downfall. But, if I get a huge craving for those... I'm gonna try to do some fruit instead this time... since it won't be as bad IMO. But, yah, I don't really have any cravings for fruits and veggies... it's been so long since I ate them. So meat and eggs is fine by me. The appetite suppression is really nice.
|
Dean
|
Well... I made it through day 2!
Made a boat load of deviled eggs tonight. Have angus beef thawed. This is EASY!
So... Heather... you'd better get that next Challenge ready. I'll need it by the end of this month!

Heather

Way to go!
I think I'm on day 33, maybe a 45 day challenge would be good.

Heather!
Get your ass into the 3 Day Challenge!
You're doing sensational... as always!
Go, Jedi!
|
Dean
|
Well... I FINALLY made it back in here!
Finished off the cookies yesterday! Have gone all day eating steak and eggs and I ate one orange. Got a headache, but that will not put me back onto the sugar I am withdrawing from! NO. NO. NO!
And... remember... I have gone a whole week off of coffee, dairy and wine! So... I am doin' good!
Day 1 completed! On to the 3 Day Challenge!

Great job! Hang in there Dean.

Count me in for the one day challenge starting.....Wednesday January 17......after I wake up around 7 am.
I was carbfree until last night. I had some white bread and rice.
The food is running low here and I need to get to the store otherwise I might tear into my youngest son's mac and cheese supply soon.
See you in the morning. I am yawning my face off here.

After a LOT of starts and stops I managed to get through one day. Thank goodness.
On to the 3 day challenge.

I didn't manage to keep to it. Crystal went into labour (with false labour we found out lateron) so I spent Day 2 at the hospital with her. After a few hours with no food and only vending machines I had no choice but to partake of thier fare.
I never did get back on track from that and it has been several days now.
I'm going to restart tomorrow. (Saturday February 17)

Heather

Oh, that's tough. That's how it always happens for me, one small snack turns into days of eating sugar. Hang in there it will get better.

I'm starting today. Jeff losing a pound on his 7-day butter binge has inspired me to get serious about cutting the carbs and keeping protein in check. Spring is coming and I need to finally drop this fat once and for all! I'm aiming for 20g carbs or less, 55-70g protein, and ... as much fat as I want.
My main carb problems are: dairy, nuts, wine, veggies. I actually think the hardest part will be the veggies. I like to fill up on those at dinner.
|
jeff
|
If you choose your veggies wisely, you can actually have quite a lot and keep your net carbs under 20. Oh, and if you really like your nuts, macadamias are great. Only 1 or 2 net carbs per ounce and they are about 95% fat, so they are low in protein as well.

Well I failed, by pigging out on brussel sprouts for dinner. We shredded them with leeks and cooked up a huge batch in butter, with bacon lardons added in.
I ate too much of that and brussels have a lot of carbs. Another problem is that I drink 8 oz of kombucha (fermented tea) every morning and that has 7g carbs.
Even though I failed today was good practice. Tomorrow I will be prepared to succeed!
My goal is essentially to stick to an Atkins-Induction-like way of eating (except for the kombucha).
|
jeff
|
I just checked fitday.....one cup of brussels sprouts has about 5g of net carbs. Not too terrible, unless you had like 3 or 4 cups.

You have the right attitude. This way of eating does take some planning ahead.

Unforunately I had about 4 cups. They were good but now I'm totally stuffed. :(

Ok, but if you normally have about 60g of carbs, it's an improvement at least. Tomorrow is a new day!

I agree about the planning. I just fried up 3 lbs of pork belly which I keep in the fridge (and some in the freezer for when I'm done the fridge stuff) for breakfasts and emergency snacks. Then if I'm tired and hungry after work or haven't gone shopping, I don't have to worry about cooking or fooling around with anything - I can just eat. That's the thing about carbs - more than anything, they're just convenient!
I also just made a double batch of dairy-free Atkins Revolution Rolls that Tracy had a recipe for on her website. Fried pork belly on a rev roll is just about the most delicious thing on earth, if you ask me. I could eat 11 of them.

Ok, well at least 4.

OK, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Today I will do it. I am also recommitting to intermitten fasting, because I fell off that wagon too. So today I'm skipping breakfast and lunch and sticking to my plan. Wish me luck!

Today I'm eating meat.
Just meat!
Hurrah!

Phew! That was a little tough, but I did it. 21 net carbs and 57 protein. On to the next challenge!

Way to go!!! How much fat?
|
Gazelle
|
122 g of fat. That made it 78% fat which is close to my 80% goal.
I wasn't able to find macadamia nuts at the store last night but I did find ... macadamia nut BUTTER. I can't wait to try it!

I use Tracy's recipe too, my daughter loves them and can eat all 6 by herself. Sometimes I chop apple and add that with cinnamon to make a "not low carb" style for her. The rev rolls are quite tasty just plain. The recipe's in the '72 Atkins book but made with cottage cheese as I just found out. Thank you Tracy for finding a dairy free version.
