Best time of day to exerciseWas wondering what the best time of day is to exercise. What are other's experiences with it?
Now that I'm almost off the java, and won't need to mess with that when I get up, I was thinking it might be best to get my daily workouts over with first thing in the morning. Would this be beneficial or are there some downfalls to this timing?
Also, when doing resistance, is it imperative to have a post-workout meal? Since I usually don't eat until evening time, would this need to be changed?
Thanks for any input y'all can provide.

Hi Dean,
Its a personal thing when its comes to working out IMO. Some do better in the am others at night. I believe you do IF so working out on a empty stomach is great for fat burning.
I do not eat after working out and I found no ill effects. If you are looking to pack on some muscle in a short period of time then maybe you would want to eat something after.

I think exercising on an empty stomach is best. If you exercise before you eat anything, this garantees that your insulin levels will be at their lowest levels. This will allow for the free flow of fatty acids. This will give you the most energy for your workout.
I'll agree with Rich about not needing to eat after a workout unless your main goal is to pack on a bunch of muscle. When we exercise with some intensity, growth hormone is released. As we've discussed before, there are many benefits from HGH. However, I've read that eating after a workout will halt the release of HGH.

Hey, Dean....
How are those workouts going? I've worked out with a personal trainer for almost two years until last month. He returned back to college.. so I'm now w/o a trainer. I figure I can handle it solo now, plus it should save a few bucks in this tough economy. So when are you working out? I prefer mornings. I tried afternoons and evenings, but my energy level seemed lower during those times. I usually try to eat something small before workouts and always carry my water bottle with me while at the gym. I did notice slight stomach cramping when I had an over indulgence of fluids while training.
Lately, I've been tossing the idea around about a job/walk routine... but just not sure where to begin. Any tips?

Kathy,
If you need a personal trainer, you can always head to the back of the Bus and I'll do my best to help ya out.
As far as when to work out, I find it best to do it first thing, but, must admit, that, once the weather gets nicer, I'll be wanting to go to the park in the afternoons. I love the outdoors.
