COMING CLEAN (or "Jaime's Journal" if you must)

I thought I would start a journal. I've been doing really badly with my eating and figured I would COME CLEAN. It is no wonder why the pounds are not dropping. In fact, even though I cannot find a scale that can tell me my weight, I am probably gaining weight. I can hardly walk around the house as it is.

I've been reading the Atkins '72 version of the Atkins diet and have decided to start that diet tomorrow. Tomorrow (Sunday July 1 2007) is Canada Day here and I have decided to do Atkins 72 for one year and see how I progress.
I'm even going to start a blog just as soon as I can find a good site to blog on. (Any suggestions from you bloggers would be appreciated).
I hope I'll still be welcome here but I am pretty sure I will be. Happy

I also think I might be able to add cheese back into my diet, though the amount will be strictly limited. I had some pizza for dinner last night...okay....one LARGE pizza... (didn't feel like cooking and there is nothing in the house anyway) ....and I did not wake up stuffed up to the rafters this morning. I was only slightly stuffed up and that did not last long and I have no problems currently as I type this.

That is all. Cool
jeff

Jaime, I'm glad you started a journal. I have found that I"m much more aware of whay I eat if I have to write everythng down. If you follow Atkins 72 for a year, I'm sure you'll have great success. I have no doubt about that.

Good luck, Jaime. We looking forward to following your journey. (And of course you'll always be welcome here).
Dean

Jaime,

Your coming clean is a very important step in moving forward. You are going to succeed in the long run because of this.

Congrats on starting a journal! We are all here to support you. And, you are here to support us, too. So, always post in your journal and you will get results. The alternative is bleak, indeed.

You will always be welcome on the Bus. Cool

BTW... Google is the blog sites I'm most familiar with. Seems they have a pretty good (and free) system.

https://www.blogger.com/start

But, I'm not up on any of the others.

Let us know about your blog when you get one up.

Congrats on starting Atkins tomorrow. Remember... you WILL succeed... if you NEVER give up. Yup
Jaime

I just had a lovely breakfast of chicken wings, leftover from last night's dinner.

I am up a few pounds and retaining water from my week long feast of Ruffles potato chips. I ate a big bag every day straight for a week. Salty crunchy snacks are my poison...like sugar is to others I guess.

I gave up the diet pop and all forms of caffeine a week ago and still have a mild headache. When will it go away and why does it take me to feel better after I have given up things.
jeff

Jaime, I also sometimes have a "thing" for crunchy, salty things. Maybe keep some macadamia nuts or almonds on hand for emergencies. These can also be easy to overeat, but they are a helluva lot better than Ruffles.
Dan

Viking Dan recommends: Pork rinds dipped in mayonnaise and/or mustard. (drool)
Jaime

I was thinking about keeping pistachios or when I feel like having ruffles just grabbing the pistachios at the corner store instead....or a meat stick. They just got in these meat sticks that are pretty good and those seem to satisfy me. I could keep a bunch in the freezer I guess.

I'm not fond of almonds but I like other nuts. I don't eat peanuts however. Those just give me stomach pains.

I'm planning on keeping pretty much zero carb for a while now. I want to get rid of this water retention. It sucks.
Jaime

Dan wrote:

Funny, I was just thinking about pork rinds this morning.

I don't know if the corner store sells pork rinds. I never looked but I will head across the street today and see.
It cannot hurt to know what ALL my options are.
kateryna

Jaime, glad you decided to come clean. I do that all the time after falling off the wagon. In fact, I think I've come clean several hundred times already but I'm not giving up. Smile

My favorite snack now whenever I just have to have something crunchy and salty is PUMPKIN SEEDS. I carry them around in my purse, take them to work and it really does the trick and I don't end up eating lots. It only feels like it because of all the shelling I have to do. But it keeps me busy and occupied. I only buy the salted or unsalted not the flavoured cause they contain too many additives. Make sure you read the ingredients on the package. I saw a package today that contained wheat flour, vegetable oil and a bunch of other unpronounceable names. How they can take a great whole food that's wonderful on its own and add all that crap to it I'll never know. They must think we want it or it adds to the weight or something.

Just another option for a snack.

I never considered seeds but thank you for the tip. Right now I seem to be snacking on a LOT of olives, and I mean a LOT. I just take the jar with me and scoop them out with a spoon.

Lovely little nuggets of goodness. Sunny

I went to Subway today for lunch and ordered a roast beef sub and had him put on double green olives as well as black olives and some cucumber and pickle slices. Then I sat down with it and ate all the insides out of it and tossed the bread.

I didn't want to do the salad option because I just did not want to pay for mostly lettuce and I've been off lettuce for a while. Got tired of it and I can never find the kind I like......hydroponic boston lettuce.
kateryna

OLIVES! Forgot about those. Thanks for reminding me Jaime. Great work resisting the bread at Subway, although most breads out there are crap and don't tempt me. Now get me into an Italian or German restaurant and you have to tie my hands behind my back to keep me out of the bread basket. Needless to say I try and avoid them.

Bought some macadamias today as well. Put 12 in a baggie for work tomorrow just in case.
jeff

You'll have to let Heather know where you got them. She tells me they are hard to find in your part of the world. And the shipping costs are killin' me. LOL
kateryna

Re Macadamia's

Walmart has the dry roasted, no additives but salt - 1 small bag - 227 gms (about 1/2 lb) $8.00 Cdn

Organic Roots by the University carries them but they are priced out of this world. Nice to know and remember once I win the Lotto 6/49.

Superstore now carries them in the bulk bins - raw and unsalted but sometimes they are not fresh so you need to be careful. They are affordable/reasonably priced there but can't remember off hand how much they cost.

I'd let Heather know but can't find her journal.

I took a food company to task because they didn't put an expiry date on their packages of nuts. Their policy still remains the same even though nuts are perishable and can cause food poisoning. So I don't buy that brand anymore.
Jaime

Update: Monday September 17 2007

I thought I would post an update.

I have not been on the wagon. I fell off it some time back and was run over several times by the back wheels. I've been feeling bloated, fatigued and am retaining so much water that my legs and feet are pretty painful from that.

I'm going to be starting Atkins '72 tomorrow to rid myself of the water retention and to get off the diet sodas I allowed myself to drink again.

I was doing pretty well staying away from the diet pop until Labour Day weekend, when my ex-boyfriend and I got back together after a 3 year (almost to the very day)breakup. We spent close to 4 days together and he took me to every restaurant imaginable over the entire course of the weekend. The following weekend was pretty much the same thing and I indulged in diet pepsis and am now hooked on them again. *sigh*.

My goals for the next week are:

1. Get off the diet pepsi and stick to water (with or without lemon juice) or tea only.

2. Stick to Atkins 72 until next Monday when I will set another goal to stay on Atkins 72 and so on and so on...etc etc etc.

3. Exercise a minimum of 3 times per week.

That is all for now. Glad to be back. I missed everyone and Dean..I'm sorry to hear about Klondike. Sad

I have no problems resisting breads. I was diagnosed as a celiac a couple of years back and would rather not be sick from eating it.

Potato chips and ice cream are my weaknesses. Outta Here

Welcome back Jaime, and good luck!
Jaime

I got through today.

I ate....4 scrambled eggs with butter and garlic, for breakfast.

Had a lamb chop for lunch fried in bacon fat.

Had some ground beef fried up for dinner.

Drank a lot of water and tea.

Tomorrow is another day. Sunny
jeff

Great job, Jaime. Your food looks perfect.
kateryna

Yep looks good to me. In fact that food looks delicious to me. Great work Jaime.
Jaime

Pretty much the same day as above. I really *need* to get to the grocery store tomorrow.

I'm deep in the midst of Induction Flu and don't feel 100%. I even found myself getting drowsy while on the phone this evening with the BF.
It is a good thing he likes to talk *a LOT* because I was only in the mood for listening. LOL

Hopefully I can keep on the straight and narrow pathway, especially with this weekend coming up because we are planning to go to a fall fair on Saturday if he gets time off work.
Jaime

Well here is an incentive to stay on plan......SEX!!

I went to the ladies clinic yesterday to see about getting birth control pills
so BF and I could *further* our relationship without having to resort to *withdrawal* any longer.

So I go in and fill out all the usual paperwork that comes with this sort of thing and once that is done I get directed to the little teeny tiny examination room. It was so small you could barely throw a cat in there and because there was no step stool and I am a very large lady so I could not even go up on the table for the required pap test.

No problem there as the clinic doctor has referred me to a gyno who looks after larger ladies and i have an appt for that.

So they take my blood pressure and it turns out to be 160 over 90. Much too high to get birth control pills due to the risk of heart attack or stroke and since I've already had one heart attack I don't want another. They refuse to give me the pills and I am back on Atkins Induction as of this very morning because I *need* to get my BP reading down and I *know* Atkins will do that for me.

The BF and I will have to figure out what else to use until I am able to get my BP down enough to get birth control pills.

The clinic doctor did suggest Depo Provera but I have heard horror stories about that from other ladies who also have PCOS and used it.
jeff

Now that's what I call incentive!!! Devil
Dave

When I was really big there wasn't much I could do.

Being able to wipe my ass was my incentive. :(

I think sex is an awesome motive!
Heather

Jaime wrote:

That sounds like a GREAT reason. Yup

Jaime wrote:

I don't think I've ever heard anything good about that stuff.
Dave

My fiancee gained her weight on Depo.

I have a nephew because my Brother and Sister-in-law thought that Depo was supposed to work. Apparently not 100% *Sigh*
Jaime

I'm not even going to bother with the Depo. I've heard it does nasty things to women who have PCOS (which I have) and I sure need a method of birth control that I know won't let me get pregnant. I've always had the best success with the pill.

Anyway I am going to join the Y tomorrow and start exercising. That should help lower my blood pressure.
Dean

Wave Jaime!
Jessica

If it helps... my blood pressure doesn't go down unless I do cardio.

And, btw, I went back on the pill last February, and I didn't gain, in fact I lost a little more. I think low carb helps control any appetite issues.

The November Challenge

This is what I plan on eating during the November challenge....

eggs (as many as I like)

butter-salted or unsalted (mainly to cook my eggs in or add fat to something)

lamb (mmmmm...my fav meat)

beef and it's accompanying fat

chicken and the skin

turkey

all types of fish including canned tuna and canned salmon

all types of seafood including canned

bacon (I might indulge in this once in a while)

pork (I generally do not eat pork but lately I have been looking at the price of it around here and if the price is right and it is fatty enough then I might indulge in it from time to time)

Mayonnaise (I don't eat it often but it is nice to have around when I want it)

Lard (got to get some)

avocado (not sure yet...still deciding)

An occasional snack of unsalted nuts in a appropriate portion (I probably will not indulge but I want it here as an option)

tea

spices and herbs

Water (main beverage)

diet pepsi ( only if I am out and cannot get water...otherwise it is a no go since I am trying to get away from it)

That is all I can think of for the moment. If I think of anything else then I will add to this list.
Jaime

Revised food list for the November Challenge

This is what I plan on eating during the November challenge....

eggs (as many as I like cooked in a variety of ways)

butter----salted or unsalted (mainly to cook my eggs in or add fat to something)

lamb (mmmmm...my fav meat)

beef and it's accompanying fat

chicken and the skin

turkey and the skin

In fact, any type of poultry

all types of fish including canned tuna and canned salmon

all types of seafood including canned

bacon (I might indulge in this once in a while)

Pork (I generally do not eat pork but lately I have been looking at the price of it around here and if the price is right and it is fatty enough then I might indulge in it from time to time. I will also eat ground pork)

Mayonnaise (I don't eat it often but it is nice to have around when I want it or need it)

Lard (got to get some to use in case the butter runs low)

Avocado (not sure yet...still deciding...going to check the carbs on those and then decide if I want to eat them or not)

An occasional snack of unsalted nuts in a appropriate portion (I probably will not indulge but I want it here as an option in case I have no other options)

tea

spices and herbs

Water (main beverage)

diet pepsi ( only if I am out and cannot get water...otherwise it is a no go since I am trying to get away from it and I feel it does me no benefit)

Olives, mushrooms and boston lettuce (from time to time but not all the time)

Processed meats (I am going to try to get away from those as I eat too many of them...especially hotdogs, and the sodium is bloating me up big time so I put them on here to remind myself NOT to eat them)

Thanks. I needed that. Yup

It was just my boyfriend treating me less then he should have and I'm thinking I might be better off single because no woman should be treated like he treated me yesterday afternoon.
Jaime

SUNDAY OCTOBER 28 2007

So I just woke up and today is my first 'unofficial' day of The November Challenge. I plan to get through this come hell or high water. Yup

I'm also giving up diet pepsi as of midnight last night. I had my last one at 11 pm last night. I really think the caffeine in them are affecting my sleep (as in making it difficult to fall asleep) and going across the street to the variety store to get them holds very little to no interest in me right now. They overcharge for them anyway.

Well off to get some water and have a cup of tea before breakfast (eggs).
Jaime

My first day is going pretty well. I'm still feeling pretty crappy regarding the BF situation and I seriously WANT to stress eat all the bad stuff but I am not going to. I'm stronger then that.

I've got a bit of a headache and am feeling achy so Induction flu is no doubt beginning to kick in. I took a couple of aspirins and they helped a little but not enough. I'll head to bed early tonight. That and time will help.

This is my menu for the day.....

4 large eggs scrambled in butter with 2 slices of cooked ham chopped up and mixed in. They were left over in the fridge so I figured I would use them up. I'm rethinking the whole processed meats thing after reading Dean's posts regarding Brats. (Dean...you are evil! LOL )

I had a little snack before my nap of a few peices of cooked dark meat turkey with full fat cream cheese spread on them.

That held me over until dinner when I had 2 hamburger patties. I did put a half teaspoon of ketchup on each one and poured the fat from the pan over top.
I'm having 2 more hamburger patties right now as those 2 did not fill me up. I added a tablespoon of butter to them.

I've drank water and tea throughout the day.

No exercise for the day but tomorrow I will be totally alone in the house (woohoo!!) and plan to use my Leslie Sansone walking dvd in the morning.
I'll try the one mile walk out.
Dean

These brats do have some junk in 'em. But, at this point, I'm better off just getting back to eating carnivorously, even if I have to resort to this crap. It's gotta be better than all that flour and sugar and ice cream! Bonkers Hey, I'm in bad shape. I aint afraid to admit it! Wink

But, hey Jaime, whatever works for you. You seem to be doing great eating cleaner foods. I'll get there at some point. Dave's way ahead of both of us. So, we'd better get it together and catch up with him! I wonder if Billi-Jean's gonna join our challenge? Perhaps jeff will join also. I can just see it now... on November 18th... "I fucked up and ate a strawberry today"...

ROTFL
Billi-Jean

Jaime, a big hug from me too!! Big Hug hmm, it's been a looong time since my last BF (don't seem to be any single men over 30 around here! Confused LOL ) but, yeah, words can be so damn hurtful. It's so sad how we humans tend to express our own pain so often by lashing out at those nearest to us. Sad

Hang in there through the induction flu!! You're determined to succeed so the battle's already half won! BTW, the food you're eating sounds delicious! Yup

Now all I want to know is....where can you buy just *one* strawberry? LOL
Jaime

All I want to do is snooooooooooze. I guess I am detoxing from the crap.

<YAWNING AND HEADING BACK TO BED>
Jaime

Here is where I fess up. LOL

Yesterday's eating went well except for the mouthful of orange juice from the jug and the 2 tbsps of peanut butter and cheese whiz (2 tbsps each btw) I mixed together and ate with a spoon from a bowl.

No exercise. I slept all day because I was feeling so sleepy until it dawned on me later that day that I had been eating a lot of turkey.

No turkey for me today. I've already had a half pound of ground beef to eat, a mouthful of OJ and am boiling eggs as I type. I'm going to have a few of those when they are done.
Dean

Thumbs Up Jaime!

You are doing fantastic! Congrats

On a positive note, I just finished a lovely peice of grilled salmon.

Thank you Billi-Jean. I appreciate your birthday wishes.

It is 7 minutes after 10 pm and I doubt at this point he will show up.
Not a phone call or an email. Nothing. I feel like crying but the tears won't come. He'd better have a damn good excuse.

Oh man, Jaime!! Sad That's friggin' awful. I wish I could come over -then we could maybe have some wine...oh what the hell, get drunk even, bawl our eyes out over BF's and then console ourselves pigging out on bacon!

He worked late today until 7 pm. He could have been here by 9 pm....9:30 at the latest. I would not have even cared if he had fallen asleep right away...at least he would have been here and I would have been with him curled up in bed just enjoying being with him.

I'm not much of a drinker but I could really use some Crown Royal to go witn this diet pepsi I have in front of me. A very BIG bottle of it. LOL
I'm in tears right now and I hate crying. I hate feeling like he doesn't even care enough about me to come and see me on my birthday.
I'd NEVER do that to him. WTF is with guys anyway? Don't they use the big head too?

No bacon here but I have a couple of good sized steaks in the fridge and some liver and sausages and eggs. Yup

I might not have a BF soon either. It's not worth the grief, especially when I feel ignored and not appreciated or cared about.

It's the hardest thing, isn't it, when you don't know where you stand -you don't want to make any rash decisions but you also can't help fearing that you're just hanging around waiting for even greater heart ache.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that he's just been held up at work or something.

He wasn't held up. He was done at 7 pm and could have been here by 9 pm if he really wanted to be here. The thing that hurts me is that he did not want to be here. We've not been together for two weeks and today was a special day for me and I wanted to share it with him.
You'd think a guy would understand this.....especially one who is supposed to be in a relationship with someone and after getting back together after a 3 year split.

I'm going to my sister's tomorrow night. We're gonna get drunk and play old Osmond albums and other various albums from the seventies and have a 'Back In The Day' party. LOL

Jaime

Well I never did get to my sisters and I never did get drunk.  LOL

Anyway, I am halfway through the third day of going zero carb and I sure do not feel like eating anymore.  My appetite is zilch.  I feel good though.
Not as tired as I was the last two days and I have been keeping my diet pepsi intake down to one can a day.
Starting Monday I am going to try eliminating that.  I don't know if I will be sucessful but I will try.  I'm taking this getting back to zero carbs diet one baby step at a time in the hopes it will stick for good this time.
I've been rubbing butter on all my meats, fish and eggs after they are cooked so it is no wonder my appetite is dead right now.
I've lost a bit of water retention too. Not all but at least I don't feel it as much now.

Thanks for that Dean. Unfortunately my former computer had died on Dec 21 and I never had the pleasure of seeing this until just now.

With that said, I'm here because my ex-bf...who is now my ex-ex bf...just dumped me tonight over the phone by telling me he had 'met someone' in the town he lives in (Orangeville, Ontario). I live in another city but only an hour and a half away by car and the only reason I stay in this city is because my youngest son wants to finish highschool here. He has a year and a half to go.  After that I will be moving from Hamilton to Stratford, Ontario where I can start a new life.

I had my suspicions that something was up with him but thought perhaps it was related to his very busy job and the new house he just bought.
I did entertain the thought that maybe he did indeed meet someone else but did not want to even think about that though it was in the back of my mind.Things were becoming different with him since the end of October. He seemed to be pulling away from me more and more.  Tonight I found out why and my suspicions were correct.

So here I am and I cannot get to sleep. I want to sleep but I cannot keep from crying and my mind is filled with thoughts about what to do next.

What do I do to make myself feel better and heal quickly.

My first thought was to go back on Neanderthin and I feel if I do not then I might binge on all the worst things..like chips, sugar and pizza. I don't want to do that because firstly,  don't have much of an appetite since he called me and secondly I will only feel worse if I do eat those things.....so Neanderthin it will be. At least if I binge then I will be doing so on healthy whole foods.

My second thought was to join a gym and that will get me doing something out of the house that is healthy, productive and will help me to *forget*....and my third thought was once I get my weight down a little bit to where my mobility is better then I will retake the tests for college and go.

Anyway that is my entry for tonight. Tomorrow is the start of my new life
and now I am going to go rip up the ex-ex's photos and burn them.   LOL

I finally managed to get a little bit of sleep this morning but it did not help how I feel emotionally.

I know in time I will get over this but he will never be trusted again.
I never would have done that to him. Not in a million years.

I feel used right now...so used.

I guess I had better go try to eat something but I don't feel much like eating.  I have a HUGE knot in my stomach at the moment.  I have a nice peice of beef in the fridge and will try to get some of it down.

The exercise thing might be an excellent idea.  I know it always helps me burn off those pent up frustrations.  It is like it gives your body something to do with all the negative energy.

I hope you are feeling better soon... break ups are rough. (hugs)

And please, please, please heed your own advice:

oh Jaime  Big Hug

I am so sorry for what you are going through!  It will take some time to heal from this. Give yourself the time you need and be gentle with yourself. But whatever you do...don't use it as an excuse to binge..it will only make you feel worse. Stick with your neanderthin program and keep your mental clarity. Come cry on my shoulder anytime you need to!  Comfort

My mom always said she was going to make a record that had all the good songs when you're done with a man...

"I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair...."

"These boots were made for walkin..."

And some others I forgot.  Grin

Especially the boots one...
