Excellent weights workouts for allAt the weekend I bought a book I've wanted for a while as it was half price. It is Dr Miriam Nelson's Strong Women omnibus with weights workouts for all ages. I also had a look at her site http://www.strongwomen.com/index.htm and you can see the exercises (3 lots) demonstrated online.
Her first book was written after they started 85-95 year old infirm nursing home patients on weight training - and not at gentle weights but at good strengths up to 80% of capacity. They had remarkable results, with those on walking frames moving to just a stick and some using sticks throwing them away. All pateints developed better balance, lost weight and gained oveerall fitness and muscle strength.
The exercises are suitable for all and begin with you sitting in a chair to do calf lifts, biceps curls etc.

Neat. I need to get started back on my weights. I need to do a lot of things. Keep us informed on your progress.

Weights I DO GO TO THE GYM. I'VE BEEN SLACKING A BIT. BUT WHEN I DO GO I DO THE STATIONARY BIKE FOR HALF AN HOUR. THEN I WORK ON 4 EXCERSIZE MACHINES. TWO FOR UPPER BODY, AND 2 FOR LOWER BODY, THEN I WORK ON THE STATIONARY BIKE FOR ANOTHER 15 MINUTES. I'M DOWN 44 POUNDS. I STARTED AT 290 DOWN TO 246. EXCERSIZE DOES WORK.

Excellent, Maria. I agree. Exercise does work. At least it has for me. I am a firm believer. I also do a combination of cardio and weight lifting.
