Forgotten18's Quest to Become Ripped

According to "Uncle Chuck's Bodyfat Calculator (http://www.eskimo.com/~cdickens/FatCalculatorM1.html) I'm approx. 14-15% bodyfat. I'd like to get down to around 8%.

My Current Weight is: ~175 lbs.
My Current Waist Measurement is: 33.5 inches

For the months of March, April, May I was stalled around 173 lbs. I began doing Jiu Jitsu in June and my weight shot up to 176 lbs.

I'd like to get down to below 170 by the end of the summer, which sounds like an easily attainable goal, although with the past few months stall it seems rather out of reach at times.

Foods I normally consume are:

Pork
Beef
Chicken
Turkey
Sausage
Bacon
Eggs
Cheese
Butter
Coconut Oil
Diet Soda
Coffee (decaf)
Spices/Seasonings

My FitDay Journal is over at:

* Just make sure you look at the current/correct day as I plan ahead often.*

Recently I (as in the past week or so) I've cut out the vegetables. I'm in the process of dwindling down on the dairy, although I love eggs (and am stocked up pretty good on them).

I'm addicted to Diet Soda. I'm battling giving it up little by little. I usually go a few days, then get tired and go back. Not sure how the Diet Soda affects my progress though, it never SEEMED to cause a problem way back when.

For Physical activity I do Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. Classes are 7 days a week, I usually go approx. 5 classes a week for Jiu Jitsu and 2 classes of Muay Thai. (Altho this week I was running around and too tired to go as much). I try to weight lift around 4-5 times a week for short intense bouts of around 30 min.

I just grilled up a Turkey for the week. I hope to fully start into becoming an all out carnivore starting tomorrow. Any suggestions, comments, etc. to help me lose that 6+ or so lbs. by Sept. 1 would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

I'm new to this myself Forgotten and it's the second time I've tried zero-carb. I eat only animal meat, some fish, some eggs and cheese and cream on occasion but it's working for me and I'm old, old, old. But it seems to be easily sustainable. I eat only when hungry and do not eat anything sweet (including sweeteners) because they create cravings and that's one thing I don't want.

Good luck to you on this quest not only to lose weight but to regain your health. There are many people here who are more experienced at this than I am and they have a wealth of experience to share with you.  Sunny

Exercise is overrated when it comes to weight loss.  In some people it even hinders weight loss.  Also, I think exercising every day is overdoing it.  The body needs to rest.

The diet soda may be preventing your weight loss.  Things that taste sweet can still produce an insulin response, even though they may have no calories.  Elevated insulin levels will prevent weight loss.

Good luck, and welcome aboard the Bus!!!

Thanks everyone...

Yesterday's food intake was:
http://fitday.com/fitness/PublicJ...;Year=2009&Month=6&Day=11

My weight this morning is down to 175.4 from 176.1 the previous day.

On the menu for today is coffee right now, then maybe some turkey and/or burgers later on.

Food Intake for 07/12/09:
http://fitday.com/fitness/PublicJ...;Year=2009&Month=6&Day=12

Weight went up from 175.4 to 176.6! A whole pound (and a little more) Ahhh! Here's hoping it was the sodium in that hot dog I ate and possibly the weight of all that food in my stomach when I stepped on the scale ;)
MetalMama

Hey there - welcome aboard!

I highly recommend only weighing once a week - daily fluctuations will make you crazy.
y0u

I so agree with MM..I lock my scale away so I can't get to it.

Thanks. I think I am going to do that. This "up one day, down the next", thing is driving me insane.

The turkey with coconut oil drizzled on it was delicious. A lot better than I thought it'd be, perhaps even better than butter. It was nice to have some turkey for a change, haven't had it in awhile. I think I may buy another one this week for the future.

Felt pretty good yesterday. All seems to be doing well. I also seem to have kicked the Diet Soda habit, as I haven't had any desire to drink some even when it's literally right there in front of me.

Kicking that diet soda habit is really hard so.......

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Line Cheer

Thanks  Happy I just need to make sure I stay strong when I go out to eat. I'm so used to automatically ordering a Diet Coke. I think I should practice saying "I'll have a water" ROTFL
jeff

Nice job kicking the diet soda habit.
MetalMama

I had SUCH a hard time kicking my Diet Pepsi's - it was hell. So glad to hear you've done so well with it - Great Job!!

Thanks for the all the support guys.

I've been feeling a little more energized lately, however still getting a little tired in that "afternoon hump". We'll see what happens in a few days..

Food Log for July 16, 2009:

I was a little more tired yesterday than usual. I ended up skipping Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu Training as I went Mon-Wed night for one or the other. I was a little more hungry yesterday than the past few days. I'm wondering if my body is telling me it needs more food/energy to compensate for me being more tired. I've been sleeping approx. 7-8 hrs a night or a little less and I usually take a 1-2 hr nap in the afternoon. I may try to bump that up to 9 hrs. at night and see how I feel. I'm thinking all the MMA training, even without the usual weight training I do on top of it, maybe be requiring me to sleep some additional hours a night. I'm not sure though, it just seems like I sleep a good deal, especially with the nap in there.
y0u

Lucky lucky you....I so wish I could sleep that much!!
jeff

I rarely sleep more than 6 hours, but I'm not complaining.  It seems like plenty.

The diet soda addiction is totally gone! I have had no cravings and no desire for the soda whatsoever. I'm typically drinking just coffee and water.

In general, I'm feeling more energetic day to day, not napping or having the desire to nap like I was when I was drinking the soda, artificial sweetners, etc.

One thing I have noticed however is that dairy, in particular cheese, but also butter (greater than 4 tablespoons), seems to make me a bit sluggish the next day and/or spike my weight up if I eat a good amount the day before I way in. Can anyone tell me the story with dairy (cheese, butter, cream in particular)? Are these things "okay" in moderation, but should not be an everyday thing? Should I really try to limit my dairy intake to a handful of times?

Also, just an inquiry for myself, what is everyone's take on sausage? I love sausage I've been buying hand-made store-brand sausage from my local mom and pop grocery store. Is there usually still a lot of fillers/processed junk still in the hand-made ones or should I be fairly safe consuming them?
jeff

Dairy tolerance seems to vary quite a bit from person to person.  It sounds like you may need to limit it.

I eat a fair amount of sausage.  Never had a problem with it.  Not sure about others here.

As you will see, I had a mini-feast for Dinner. I ended up going to Buffalo Wild Wings and devoured 2 dozen blazin' hot wings.

Calories were a little higher than they've been, but I see no concern for that as long as I eat when hungry and eat the proper foods.

Coffee, decaf -  approx. 4 cups

Pork roast - 36 oz.

Egg, whole, raw - 4 eggs
Butter - 1.5 tbsp

Capicola - approx. 4 slices

Escarole, cooked - about 1 - 1.5 cups
Pepperoni - a few slices

As you'll see, I was a little "bad". I tried some escarole (spinach like vegetable) just to see what would happen. I'll tell you what happened, I was satisfied/full for about all of 3 mins. With the escarole I had some cooked pepperoni on the side along with some slices of capicola deli meat. The results: Bloated and uncomfortableness upon waking up this morning. What have I learned here? Processed and salt-laden "cold-cuts" are definitely something to be avoided (besides a steak or pork chop is much better tasting).

I also indulged in a few eggs. The jury is still out for me on how I feel about those considering they are technically dairy.

So, to re-evaluate my WOE now. Dairy (butter, cheese, cream) will now be very very limited to the occasional cheese on a burger (for a special occasion such as a BBQ event). Vegetables are totally out as well as processed deli-meats. I will allow the occasional indulgence of bacon, which can be considered somewhat processed, but that's it for me as far as saltly deli processed meats.

Where do y0u find eggs that come from cows?

Is this a trick question?  Cool
MetalMama

I'll give you a hint....Cheese, milk, cream, butter - all originate from products of cows.

Here's another...canned biscuits are sold in my store's 'dairy' aisle but they are definitely not dairy.

Coffee, decaf - about 4-5 mugs

Pork Sirloin Chop - approx. 9 oz

Chicken wings w/hot sauce - like 36 "wingettes"

Man, I think I always over-indulge on wings. My calories were pretty high up there again today. The thing is I eat until I'm full, so I don't really know if the calories matter too much. I have been doing MMA training all week, started a couple boxing classes for it this week in addition to the Jiu-Jitsu, maybe that's the reason for my increased hunger? I managed to make it until noon and then had the pork chop, but by the time 7pm rolled around, I was starving, and those wings sure tasted delicious Wink

Ok - trivia over. *Eggs aren't dairy*

As far as overindulging in things and watching your calories - two gentlemen on this board did experiments involving overeating calorie wise (to an extreme of 4000+ calories a day) and they still lost weight.

I don't know if the same holds true for women but I eat a lot of food and am still losing (albeit slowly).

My advice to you - since you're pushing yourself physically as well with exercise. Forget about tracking your calories. Don't worry about how much or how often you eat.

Eat when you're hungry and eat until you're full. I think you'll do just fine!

Oh and I eat a lot of wings also - usually 3-4 times a week. Love those things!!

You're doing great - keep up the good work!  Grin
Forgotten18

Thanks MetalMama.

I hope I'll be do alright, like I mentioned in my Intro Post, I've hit a plateau/stall for several months now while doing VLC, but I've really been trying to make an effort to overcome it, such as dropping the dairy, processed, meats, diet soda, etc. and reach as ZC as possible.

Sunday Weigh-In: 178 (+3 lbs this week)

Went to a Cook-out yesterday. Tried to stay good. Ate some cheeseburgers throughout the day, some chicken, and tried some veggie dips. Drank a little hard alcohol.

Jumped on the scale today for my "weekly weigh-in". I'm not too happy, to say the least, I gained 3 lbs. this week. I just don't get what I'm doing wrong. Before I was eating more dairy, diet soda, processed meats, and at least staying even. Now, I'm actually gaining weight. Very frustrating. Am I consuming too many calories? I didn't think calories really played an integral role in zero carb very much.

Food Log for July 26, 2009:

Ate pretty much dead-on zero carb yesterday. Had a few burgers (without cheese for once). I've noticed that as long as people don't cook hamburgers to death, they taste fine without cheese or anything else on them. Every so often, I'll throw a little mustard on just to switch it up, but I'm starting to appreciate the subtle falvors and textures now of a nice plain, rare-cooked, hamburger.

Today I've gone back to the coffee, I did not notice any real differences in my hunger levels when eliminating it, and I've never really had too much of a problem with it in the past. So, we'll see how that goes with just meat, spices, coffee, and water.

And I'll add as well that I'm actually beginning to enjoy water. I never thought that'd happen. haha.

Trying to get in tune with my "hunger" and eating until satisfied, but not stuffed. Going decent so far.

Yesterday was the beginning of my increase to two hours of MMA training everyday Mon. - Fri. Felt really good after training Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai yesterday. I felt "energetic" in a way after it was all over. Today is Boxing and more Jiu Jitsu.

Feeling pretty good today even after an intense Boxing workout followed by some jiu jitsu last night. I actually had some trouble falling asleep last night, usually I'm exhausted and konk right off. I think the extra physical activity may be doing me some good, I slept a little sounder than normal.

My mirror is showing me what appears to be some leaning down. Guess we will find out come weigh-in on Sunday.
jeff

Thanks for the update!

If you're as physically active as you say, perhaps you've put on muscle---not fat. Have your pants been getting tighter? If not---don't sweat it.
y0u

I agree with Dan..and I have had the same thing happen to myself.  That is why I take measurements.  But I also watch my calories somewhat..but I think that is more important for some women than men..or so it seems.

Keep up the great workouts..it will pay off.
Forgotten18

Measurements were exactly the same.

Today I weighed in at 175.6 lbs after consuming a good amount of peanuts the night before. So, looks like I'm back on track.
