Greek StewThis is a recipe which has become a favourite of mine ever since a past bf ( my most recent ex bf) cooked it for me when we went camping. I leave out the brown sugar and only use 2 onions diced so they cook down.
Greek Stew
3 lbs lean sirloin steak
2 1/2 lbs onions
salt 'n pepper
1/2 cup butter
1 6oz can tomato paste
1/3 cup red wine
2 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 clove garlic grated
1 bay leaf
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 dozen cloves
1/4 tsp cumin
2 tbsp raisins
Cut the steak into bite-size pieces.
Melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in steak to coat. Add p&s to
taste. Layer the peeled onions on top.
Mix the wet ingredients and spices and pour on. Drop bay leaf,
cinnamon
stick, raisins on top. Simmer 3 hrs.
In reality, you can just use regular stewing beef. It's being
simmered
for 3 hours, so it will be just fine.

Boy... with all the snow outside... does THAT look delicious or what?!
Jaime, could this be done in a crock pot?
I guess I'd have to leave out the brown sugar, and the wine, and just use extra raisins!

Yep, I've done it in a crockpot. It works great in a crockpot if you put it in there early in the morning. I wake up at 4 am every day so about 6 am I put everything in the crock and set it for 8 hours and at 2 or 3 pm I am having an early dinner. If you're gonna do it in the crockpot use all the onions and they come out very tender......melt in your mouth.
I'm not a drinker so I just use beef broth in place of the wine and I have put in a few extra raisins as well. *Love* raisins.
