Happy Holidaze HangoutThought it might be good to open up a wing in the Ward for the Holidaze.
Many seem to have trouble getting through this time of year.
Well, here is where we can provide support and advice to make the trip from now till New Year a happy one.
Either way, we can at least start celebrating early, huh?
BTW... if you see Rudolph, don't shoot him! We'll need him to guide the Bus through this time of year!

Happy Holidaze, Dean.
This time of year the carb pushers are out in full force. A little extra support couldn't hurt.lol

I'm going to need the support, I can see the train wreck heading directly for me.
I must stay on the Bus.
Who's driving anyways?

By the way, I swallowed something I wasn't supposed to this weekend but I can't remember what is was.
That's my confession of the weak/week.

If you can't remember what it was, then it doesn't count. jeff's rule #47.

I think Rudolph has been put into the lead on this one.
He will try his best to steer us clear of any train wreck that might come our way. As long as nobody takes aim on the poor little fella.

Hi there all.
I won't bother with eating Xmas meals with anyone else unless they want rare steak smothered in runny egg yolks!

PS, I'm loving the snow leopard avatar that Dean kindly uploaded to my profile. It reminds me of my true nature: a carnivore, as well as being my fave animal!

Yes, that is a beautiful leopard. Count me in as a fan of rare steak anytime. Yum.

I saw some snow leopards at the Calgary zoo this summer, they are gorgeous!

I can't adjust the picture size so I will just post the link.
I remembered what I did eat, it was kfc.... My weight is finally back to where I started. Over a week later.
I had a birthday party this weekend and didn't touch a darn thing, not even alcohol! I was a good little angel.
I had some bad cravings but somehow managed to survive without succumbing to temptation.

Congrats on the resolve, Heather!
I've recently given up all dairy except half & half or cream for coffee and butter. I may cut out the coffee at some point in the future, so as to drop the cream. I have tried to drink it black, but, it's hard to do. I'm not sure if I'll ever give up butter, but, anything's possible.
I've already noticed a lot less bloat just from doing this. I was eating too much cheese and sour cream. I'm glad I'm off it. Don't ever wanna go back to it. I also stopped all processed meats. Just in time for the holidaze. I'm even thinking of starting a Pure Paleo Challenge, just to go with meat, eggs, and water for awhile. I'm still thinkin' that one over, but, it may occur once school is out in a couple weeks.
Keep up the good work, Heather.

Well, I survived Thanksgiving with minimul damage!
Just ate turkey, ham, a bit of sweet taters, gravy (that was not made with flour), and one very thin slice of pumpkin pie. I fasted for 72 hours before eating this meal, so, it was no big deal. I did not even eat that much, and, I had no desire for all the carby deserts, breads, and other junk that was all around me.
I did really well, I thought.
Oh, and I had some
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Dean- One thing that helped me to switch to black coffee was to make it just a little weaker. This cuts down on the bitterness, and lets some of the natural sweetness of the coffee come out. I don't know if it would help you or not. I always drink it black now, which is very helpful with IF. This way I can still have coffee when I am fasting.
|
Heather
|
I do that with my coffee too.
I'm glad you all survived thanksgiving, I sure as heck didn't, that was in October, but we have come a long way baby!
No cheats to report, except maybe those bacardi mojito's, I could taste the sugar coating my tongue. But hey, it was a small price to pay....

Did I mention they smell like lime koolaid? They taste like lime and rum syrup though... I just bought myself a bottle because it was mixed and didn't feel like drinking straight rum. There has to be some sugar free coolers out there, Jeff?
Oh and today I ate one fudge covered pecan.
Slippery slopes, I tell ya....

I'm sure any pre-made mojito mix will have tons of sugar. I don't know if there are any sugar free mixes out there, but making your own sugar free mojito would be easy. Better yet.....come see me and I'll make you one!

Oh yes, the Holidaze are full of slippery slopes. All those Christmas parties are like mine fields.

Yah, Heather, I know just what you mean.
This Saturday, I'm going to one, and was asked what I'm bringing. I asked what was needed, and was told that she (the host) is making a whole bunch of lasagna, and that so far everyone she's asked said they are bringing dessert. Talk about a total carb fest! So, I asked her if I could bring something to drink instead, like some wine. She said that would be fine. I'm planning on eating lots of good steak before I head to that party. While I'm there, I'm not touching a thing, except wine.
At school, in every class, people bring tons of junk that is always setup on some table. People are stuffing their faces with sweets and snack items all during class. Graze city. I am so glad to not have any appetite. Whether I eat before going to class or not, it makes no difference. I'm never hungry anymore. Yesterday, I totally forgot to eat anything, and so far today I've only had one hamburger with a bit of mayo. ZC is so great.

So true. So far today all I've had is a few cups of coffee with heavy whipping cream, and about 4-5 ounces of left over roast beef, which I ate at about noon. It is now after 10 at night and I am not the least bit hungry.

My kind of get together... Sorry, I didn't notice anything else you said.

I already promised I would have some Irish cream at Christmas and only on that day. No cheats until then.
But since I'm here, I might as well say I ate some spinach in quiche with no crust and 2 pieces of honeydew yesterday morning. Not much but I felt like hell until this afternoon. I wonder if the quiche was spiked?
It doesn't sound too good so far but I think I really am doing well.

Dean- This sounds just like my life. Here in the midwest every social event is carb loaded. "Have some pie" I was once at an event that was all dessrts and jello "salads". I had coffee. Gee, I wonder why everyone is struggling with their weight?

Dean

Well, I survived the first holidaze party with flying colors!
The MINUTE I walked into the house, I was ushered straight to the kitchen, where there was all this lasagna and TONS of desserts everywhere!
I simply said, you know I'm not really wanting to eat anything. Of course, I was reminded of how she slaved over this food, etc. I just said I was getting over some sickness from a week ago, and I was trying to avoid eating about anything, blah, blah, blah...
Now, if a vegan saw anything with animal food, then it would be, "I don't eat meat"... and apologies would follow.

I'm really shocked this year, we go to my mother-in-laws and everyone decided we're just having filet mignon, peel and eat shrimp, and asparagus. No dessert, no bread, no potato. I'm so happy!!!!
However, i've had the carb+fat combos pushed at work constantly. One of my coworkers, who thinks i'm on Atkins (she only sees me eat meat) asked what days i'm working this week as she is brining in a treat. And i'm sure it's not meat!
I was even asked to be a Cookie Judge last week.
yes, really.

Cookie judge? Maybe you can see which one you can throw that farthest.

They were pretty. It's funny as time goes one, stuff like that looks like plastic to me. Like not food. Pretty, but something you see in an interior decorating store that's not meant to be eaten. :)
Cookie throwing!
That's a much better use for them.
I think we should have a cookie throwing after Christmas with all leftovers.

I have just about had it with these holidaze....
I ate a few veggies and drank some Kahlua just yesterday. What the heck is going on? (oh yeah, my last Christmas. ) I ate a single brandy chocolate a few days ago too. It was so sweet, I'd rather do shots of straight brandy. Which reminds me of the brandy tasting I did at my mom's....
Oh man, when will it end?
But overall it has been severely okay.

I'd rather be a brandy taster than a cookie judge! :)
Alcohol kills my appetite. I guess i'm weird that way.

I've been gettin' through these holidaze with nada problem.
Tonight, I'm gonna be over at my gf's and we're gonna roast a duck and have shrimp and, of course...
Y'all have a merry one!
|
Dean
|
Whoa, that shrimp was the best I've ever had. Seasoned just right and dipped into butter with garlic. The only dairy I'm doin' is butter to dip seafood in.
The duck was wonderful. Haven't had that in quite awhile.
It was definitely a Carnivore Christmas for us.
We got pretty wasted on wine.
Hey, that's why it's called the holidaze.

Hi Dean,
What seasonings did you use on the shrimp and how did you cook it? I tried duck for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was okay - I liked the fat the most.

Hi Again,
I am back on the bus as of today and am wondering if there is any interest in starting a January challenge.
Val
|
Dean
|
Good to hear it, Val.
What kind of challenge were you interested in?
I've been on a pure meat and water diet (with less and less java and wine) for about 40 days so far. I am using up all the meat in my freezer. I've got 50 chuck-eye's in there! Was thinking of starting a "Chuck-Eye Challenge"
Seriously, what did you have in mind? I'm game.
|
Valcan
|
Hi Dean,
For me I would just like to get back on ZC again. New Years usually brings out others who want to recommit, maybe we can attract a crowd. Kind of boring for you but you could give up java and wine completely for January. We could have the "How Low Can You Go" Challenge. Kind of like a zero carb limbo contest.
I am open to other suggestions. Anyone else have any ideas?
Val
|
Dean
|
Val,
Yah, I think a "How Low Can You Go" contest would be great. The one with the lowest grams of carbs at the end of the month would be the winner? Too bad my Birthday falls on Jan 3rd. I'm not sure how dedicated I could be in the wine department on that day, but, after that, I'm abstaining for awhile. So, all the grams of carbs in the wine I consume on my Birthday would be about the only ones for the month. I hope to have java gone by then.
|
jeff
|
I might be up for a "How low can you go" challenge. I've been thinking of dropping the heavy whipping cream from my coffee and cutting back on the wine. My pants seem to have gotten a bit tighter lately, and I suspect it's because of those two things.
|
Dean
|
jeff,
That's exactly why I had to cut out all this stuff. It's good cleansing anyway, both physically and mentally. Yah, there was one pair of jeans that I could not even button anymore, and I could barely zip them up. Now, those same jeans are starting to fall down when I wear them.
It's amazing how quickly one can lose body fat when you just eat meat and water. I've been loading up on animal fat, and it seems I am losing body fat even quicker. It's wild. In your experiment, you did not gain, but, you also didn't lose. I think I might do an experiment to see if I can actually lose on ZCarnivore eating, with just fatty meat and water.
When we did that ZC challenge back in April 2007, I remember losing body fat while eating tons of pig fat. If you recall, for 14 days I went with only meat and water, and not even any spices.

| Dean wrote: | | I made it HALF the month, though. Pretty impressive considering I only ate totally naked beef and pork muscle/fat... and water, for 14 Days! |
| Dean wrote: | | I have lost 9.6 lbs, and 2.9 lbs of that came off this fat roll I have on my belly! And, I can tell. 34" jeans are so loose, I can barely wear them anymore. I will try on some 32" and even 30" tomorrow and see how they fit. |
I don't think it's necessary to cut out spices or even ZC condiments, but, with me just doing fatty meat and dry seasoning right now, it would be a great experiment to blow the calorie theory all to hell, huh? Since I have just a few pounds of body fat to lose, I would make a good subject. Whaddaya think? Wanna join me in this, or are you too addicted to the wine, java, and dairy? For me, those things were super addicting.

I will drop the cream, but not the java. And I'll cut back on the cheese. I got to a good weight before while consuming all these things. I just think I've been overdoing it lately with these things. Oh, and I'll also cut way back on the wine.

Val, my gf cooked it (in a skillet). She had some special seasoning which I will get the name of and post here when I find out. I'll be over there tomorrow night. Yah, that seasoning made the shrimp taste out of this world. Hot, cooked, seasoned shrimp dipped into butter with real garlic... oh my!

Well, I got through the New Year celebrations with total success!
New Year's eve was lots of crab dipped in hot butter, and a bit of prime rib, followed by some champagne. Then, onto a party that lasted till five am. Wine and a couple shots of tequila and lots and lots of fun!
New Year's day was just a very small amount of beef ribs, and a couple glasses of wine. Was not hungry at all that day.
For most of you, the holidaze have come to a close, but, not for me. Tomorrow I'm going to a big house party. Tomorrow is my Birthday, and there are at least two others who have Birthdays around the first few days of the year that will be there, including one of my longest and closest friends, who has his Birthday today. Then, next week, I will be celebrating my Birthday again, along with my gf's Birthday. We always pick a day between the two, so Monday the 5th will do this year. Then, on the 6th I'll probably go to another party for her Birthday.
After that, I plan on dropping all the booze and focusing on just seasoned meat and water for quite some time.
Despite seeing TONS of carbs at several gatherings during these holidaze, I've been able to stay strong and resist. All I thought about is how it would totally sabotage my loss. My waist has been getting thinner every day since Thanksgiving. I am loving that, and want it to continue and even accelerate. So, this is probably the very first holiday season I have been able to stay away from all carbage, except some wine in moderation. If I can do that, then, after these holidaze are history, I should be able to be even stronger.
I hope this season went by as well for everyone else.

| Valcan wrote: | Hi Dean,

Val,
Sorry it took me so long to get back to ya on this.
Here's the seasoning she used.
She used fresh garlic in the butter that we used to dip this shrimp in.
She also threw some wine in with the cooking shrimp, but, I'm sure that was just a knee-jerk response to the holidaze celebrating we were engaged in.
|
Dean
|
Well, it appears that the holidaze have finally come to a close for me. Last night I finished off the last couple glasses of wine I had and now I don't plan to drink anything but water for quite sometime. I've got a MAM Experiment that I need to attend to, ya know.
