Hi everyone, from Billi-JeanHi everyone, I found this forum a couple of days ago and have been reading and reading...
...this seems like a really warm, supportive and very informative place to be, so I was wondering if you'd all mind another passenger jumpin' on the bus...!?
This is day 14 for me of zero carb! My god, I never thought I'd make it through even one day, but it's getting easier and each day I have a little more energy; keto adapting hit me really hard and I felt like I'd fallen into a tank of wet cement and couldn't lift myself out.
I'm still not quite there yet as I'm still spilling alot of ketones and have the telltale "bleeehck" taste in my mouth, but I'm hanging on
I'm eating this way for health not weight loss because I'm sooooo tired of feeling terrible and of having to live on 800 or less calories a day just to maintain my weight! I'm so sensitive to carbs, even LC vegies, and fibre isn't kind to me either...
For the last 14 days I've been having anything from 1600 to 2400 calories per day and haven't gained any weight! Never dreamed I'd see the day...
Anyway, hope you guys have room for another Aussie (I'm in Melbourne, like Dave - "Hi Dave!" )
Ciao for now,
Billi-Jean

Hi BJ!
Welcome to the Magic Bus!

hey Dave, I was so glad to see you here!

Billi-Jean!
So nice to have you on the Bus!
I can relate so well to your situation. I too am very carb sensitive it seems. I also am doing this more for health than losing weight, although, it'd be nice to lose this extra 20 pounds of body fat that just stubbornly hangs around. I lose it, then eat too many carbs and gain it right back.
Glad you could join us!

Hi Dean,
Thanks for welcoming me!
...yeah, those blasted carbs
I guess we just have to focus as hard as we can on just being grateful that we've found a way, at least, that we can now finally eat and be sated by our meals and not feel so desperately hungry all the time...I still can't get over it!!
Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Nice to meet you, Billi-Jean! You're through the worst of it now, for sure! It should be smooth sailing on zero-carb for you now.

Hi Red,
Great to meet you too!
Boy, I do hope the worst is over, Red, I'm hangin' in there...

Welcome, Billi-Jean. Isn't it great to be able to eat a decent amount of food and not have to worry about gaining? As long as you keep your carbs very low, and your protein moderate, you shouldn't have any problems. Enjoy the ride!

Thanks jeff!
My percentages are usually around 70-80% Fat, 20-30% Protein and 2-3% Carb, but I supposedly only need about 47g Protein per day and I'm finding it almost impossible to eat that little! I often go well over 100g of protein
Well I guess it's early days yet, I still have to find my rhythm, so to speak, and figure out what works/feels best.
Ate waaaay too much tonight, but I stuck to lamb, eggs and some feta cheese, so hopefully no real harm's been done!

I think your percentages are perfect. I agree with you that it is hard to eat that little protein. I recently did an experiment where I was keeping protein between 75-100g per day, and that was hard for me. However, I really don't think the excess protein is a problem as long as your total calories are in line.

that's what I'm hoping, Jeff; that as long as my percentages stay okay, the actual volume should kind of take care of itself once I become keto-adapted and more in tune with what my body tells me it needs...well, food-wise at least!

That is what I find. I can maintain my weight very easily by eating as much as I feel like eating....as long as I get plenty of fat and very few carbs.

HI! Welcome. You're right, to eat that high % of fat you almost can't eat meat... :) you have to eat lots of butter and fatty goodness.

Welcome Billi-Jean.
Cute name. I loved that song in the 80's.

Hi Jessica and Jaime, thanks for the welcome!
This is a great bunch of people, I'm glad to be here!
Jaime, I used to have everyone singing that song to me in the 80's! Just as well I liked the song too!!
Jessica, yeah, I'm trying not to worry too much about protein intake, just trying to make sure I eat as much fat with it as I possibly can by dipping the lean parts into the fatty juices, adding butter etc.
My body seems to be adjusting slowly but surely and each day I'm getting a bit of my energy back
