Another update. All taken March 5, 2007. They were quite grainy, so I shrunk them down a bit for better quality.

Holy man, you look great! Look at those arms! You have a great proportion for your body, great muscle in all the right places...
Very impressive, you should be VERY proud of all of your hard work!!!

Thanks Jessica. You're gonna make me blush, though. Yep, hard work and sticking with a good plan does pay off.

Thanks Jaime. And I believe my previous pics were only from about 4 months ago.

In light of that response, the body hair stays.

Not really, although the thought did cross my mind. Do they still make Nair?

Yup, but waxing is the way to go these days.

Thanks, Alisa! I've been getting plenty of sun this summer.

I hope I'm that lean at 46. More power to you, Jeff!

Thanks Dan! I have to say I'm pretty proud of what I've accomplished. 5 years ago I never would have dreamed this possible. I am so thankful that I had the guts to throw caution to the wind and try that crazy Atkins Diet.

If that was meant for me, thanks kateryna.
BTW, I am wearing the same 30 inch waist pants that I was so proud to fit into last summer. Maybe you can see that they are now hanging on my hips.

Sorry Jeff, yes I meant you, lol. One the of few things about being old is you can always flog it off to memory. You are an amazing success story. Give us your history again. Also, what exercises do you do? Not that I want to do them as I can't because of my arthritis and I'm not into gaining muscles like you youngsters.
|
Dan
|
I think as you get older, your focus should be on gaining as much muscle as possible. Especially when you consider how much bone density declines as one ages. I believe after the age of 20, you lose something like 5% of your muscle mass per decade. Kind of scary.
Arthritis is no fun, I'm sure, but there are ways to work around that (exercise with a more limited range of motion, use a slower tempo, etc.)
Arthritis is mostly an inflammatory response. Does fish oil or cayenne help at all?

Dan: If I could give up those damn carbs my arthritis would be under control basically. I'm trying to get into an exercise regime where I do something different every day. Like squats one day, weights the next, walking the 3rd and so on.

One thing I took away from Jimmy Moore is how he would always chant to himself: "Sugar is rat poison." I do similar things when I see something I know I shouldn't eat.
Or I try to mentally associate it with the smell of grapefruit...which is enough to kill my appetite.
