Jeremy's JournalWell I thought I would do a journal. Hopefully, it will keep me on track.
OK, I'll do a little background on my journey so far. I topped out at an astounding 375 lbs....or very close to it. I did Medifast for several months and other such diets and lost some weight. I dumped that and then just cut back my calories and lost some more. I got down to about 295 then went back up to 325. At that time I looked at other diets and stumbled onto this site. I think it will change my life. We'll see. Wish me luck.
So, without further ado here I go.

Starting Weight - 325
Week 1 - Jan 3rd-13th - 311lbs (-14 lbs) Averaged 1800 calories with 65% fat, 33% protein, and 2% carbs
*Notes - More than likely a ton of water weight, but I'll take it. I felt really tired and weird, but I'm sure it will pass. I'm bumping the ratio to 80% fat and 20% protein for next week to see if I have more energy.

Bumping up the fat should help.
Also, if you haven't particularly low-carbed before the transition can be more difficult and can last a couple of weeks.
Water weight or fat weight, whatever works.... As long as it's leaving your body.

Ditto on what Heather said. You could always try 90% fat like me. I can't imagine anyone not bouncing off the walls with that ratio.

Jeremy

Thanks everybody.
Week 2 - Jan 13th-20th - 307.5lbs (-3.5 lbs) Averaged 2200 calories with 70% fat, 29% protein, and 1% carbs
*Notes - I felt good more days than I felt bad. Hopefully, the transition is right around the corner. Shooting for 80% fat, 20% protein all days this week.
Total weight loss - 17.5lbs

Awesome job, Jeremy. Bear says full keto-adaptation takes about 3 weeks, and most people who have trouble adapting say they feel much better withing a month.
|
Jeremy
|
Thanks Jeff. I believe that about the 3 weeks to transition. Week 1 I felt bad every day and felt almost weird inside. Hard to explain. Week 2 I started feeling good for 2 days in a row then 1 day of feeling bad. I'm hoping this week I'll feel good most of the week and be completely running efficiently on ketones.

Upping fat and drinking caffeine/coffee are what others recommended to me, and helped. Good luck! :)

Ditto on the fat. I feel a lot better on higher fat.

Well...a little disappointment this week
Week 3 - Jan 20th-27th - 308lbs (+.5 lbs) Averaged 2400 calories with 72% fat, 25% protein, and 3% carbs
*Notes - I felt absolutely great all week, but as you see I gained .5 lbs. I experimented with higher calorie intake and got more carbs than the other 2 weeks. I still averaged under 20 though. I think I need to drop my calories to around 2000 and keep carbs in the form of cream only. I also walked 1.5 miles, 4 days this week.
Anyone else out there gain weight around week 3?
Total Weight Loss - 17 lbs

Don't sweat it Jeremy. I think everybody has a week now and then when this happnens to them. I did. 17 pounds in 3 weeks is awesome. You're doing great.

What jeff said!
Keep up the good work!

thanks guys, I'll keep on keeping on...with less carbs ;)

Jeremy- I completely stalled the third week into my new program, which was this past week. I am trying not to panic, and to just focus on staying with the program. I have heard that a third week stall is infamously common. I think the weight will start dropping again if we just hang tough. Besides, you are droppin pounds like crazy, man. Your body can only do so much at a time.
|
Jeremy
|
Wow, sounds like you're around the same phase I am Heather. I'm sticking to it too cause my clothes are feeling good, but it is disheartening to jump on the scale after all that work and be stalled.
Are you changing your routine up this week? Are you counting calories at all?
|
Heather L
|
Jeremy- I know exactly what you mean. It is disheartening to know that I followed plan, including tracking every last bit of food and entering it into fitday, just to stay at the same weight. Ugh. I wanted to take a sledge hammer to my scale, but instead I just looked at my food intake records, and all the workouts and told myself that there was no way this was something I did wrong.
I have already been keeping my calories at 1700-1800. I could take them a bit lower, but the charts say not to go below 1700 for my lean body mass. I have 140 pounds of lean body mass, which I know is rather freakish for a girl, but I want to keep them since muscle will help me burn off the fat. I will be taking the carbs pretty low this next month for the Carnivore Challenge, so it will be fascinating to see if this makes a big difference. I have been keeping carbs at around 5%, but totally carnivore will probably take them to 1%.
|
Jeremy
|
Hey, atleast we didn't gain. Good luck on the contest Heather, and stop in sometime and let me know if the weight loss picked up for you.

I don't know about any third week weight stalls specifically but I do know that it is normal (in myself anyways) that the weight did come off in waves.
|
Jeremy
|
Well...had a good week this week
Week 3 - Jan 27th-Feb 3rd - 303lbs (-5 lbs) Averaged 1987 calories with 72% fat, 27% protein, and 1% carbs
Total Weight loss - 22 LBS
*Notes - I felt great even on days I didn't get enough calories. No hunger at all. I do think calorie intake does effect weight loss, just not to the extent of other WOE. I walked 5 days, 30 min (1.5 miles) per workout
|
jeff

Awesome job, Jeremy!! You are doing great. Success is a great motivator, isn't it?
|
Jeremy

It sure is Jeff. It's great to lose 5 lbs but the fact I'm never hungry and have so much energy makes motivation a cinch.
Thanks for stopping by.

That's really true Jeremy. Losing weight the low carb way was the easiest thing I've ever done. And keeping it off is a breeze. I've lost weight lots of times, but this is the first time I've ever kept it off.......going on 5 years now.

Week 4 - Feb. 03-10 - 300lbs (-3 lbs) Averaged 2125 calories with 72% fat, 26% protein, and 2% carbs, 1% Alcohol.
*Notes - Nothing new to report really. Feel great and now walking 2.1 miles, 5 days per week.
Total Weight loss: 25 lbs.

Week 5 - Feb. 10-17 - 300.5lbs (.5 lbs) Averaged 2167 calories with 70% fat, 27% protein, and 2% carbs, 1% Alcohol.
Total - 24.5 lbs
*Notes - Didn't lose any weight and felt weak this week. Also, I'm really burned out on MEAT. I'm pushing through but it's tough right now. I've read the experts say 6 months to fully adjust to meat diet so....until then I'm gonna hang in there. My clothes did feel more loose than last week though. Walked 3 days - 45 minutes (2.1 miles) per workout.

Hey there, Jeremy!
Good to see ya around. Don't get discouraged. These feelings are normal. Try upping your fat some, and you might feel better. Always works for me. Hang in there, and don't be a stranger.

KUTGW Jeremy!
Sometimes your body shrinks with this WOE without any weight loss. I'm much smaller in size at my current weight, then I was doing a low fat diet.
I agree with Dean, try upping your fat, see if it helps. Add butter to everything. mmmmmm, butter.

Jeremy

Thanks for the input guys. I've been working so much lately I haven't had time to add much to the community boards. Hopefully, soon.
I've tried to do a little analyzing of my food during the 2 weeks I stalled, and the only difference between those and the other weeks was salt intake. I got a ton of salt last week in the form of fast food burgers and bacon. I wonder if that can cause a couple of pounds of water retention? I'm gonna experiment and remove as much salt as possible over the next few weeks and see if I stall.
I really appreciate you guys stopping by.....so encouraging.

Week 7- Feb. 17-24th - 297lbs (.-3.5 lbs) Averaged 1930 calories with 72% fat, 26% protein, and 2% carbs.
Total Weight loss - 28 lbs
*Notes - Nothing new to add really, tired of meat, felt OK, hanging in there...walked 5 days, 2 miles per day.
|
jeff

So you're averaging 4 pounds per week. That is awesome Jeremy.
You say you're getting tired of meat. Sorry if this has been covered already, but what typed of meat do you eat? Just beef? Or do you eat chicken, fish, pork, lamb, eggs, etc. The possibilities are nearly endless.

Jeremy- You are doing awesome!!! 28 pounds is fabulous for 7 weeks.
I also love that you are walking as well. Keep it up.
