Jessica's JournalOkay, boring title, i'm not very imaginative right now, lol. :)
I made some awesome turkey tonight. It was so spicy it made my eyes water!!! :)
Ate lots of meat, some fruit, and a potato today.
I'm dairy free, and loving it. Feel great!!!
I've been making recipes out of my Garden of Eating recipe book. The spicy turkey recipe is in there. Also made some smoothies, and an almond butter dip that has egg white powder/vanilla/cinnamon/other stuff in it that is great with strawberries.
I've done either 1 hour of walking/40 minutes of elliptical machine/or 40 minutes of weight lifting (I alternate on the elliptical between sets when I lift) every day for the last 8 days. I have so much more energy, and am already feeling the difference in my body. I just need to keep consistent!!!
Well I should get to bed, it's past my bedtime.
Nightey Nite.... Jessica

Jessica!
So good to see you over here!
I too have been going virtually dairy free. The small amount of half & half I use in my java does not seem to bother me at all. And, I do use butter on steaks sometimes.
It's great having you here!
Welcome.

Welcome to The Journals!

Jessica
|
You are all too much!!!
Today I ate:
smoky turkey breast, small white potato (boiled) and 1 teaspoon butter, salt & pepper
Strawberries dipped in protein almond butter spread
Cold turkey breast (bought, but it was a whole, real turkey breast) and an orange
Small burger patty (1/4 #) and 1/2 cup of smushed potato, touch of heinz 57 sauce
Winter Squash with coconut protein cream
Exercise:
45 minutes total of compound lifting sets alternated with 1 minute on the elliptical (squat, deadlift, bench press, military, row, biceps, triceps, crunches, calf extensions)
Great workout!!!
Feeling great (sinus infection GONE no headaches, depression gone, i'm happy and doing well). I haven't weighed myself, but i've pretty much been doing this for a week and my clothes are fitting better and i'm getting leaner (ugh, my butt is disappearing more than ever, ugh).
I plan on doing the workout I did tonight Monday/Wed/Friday, and on other days go for a long walk/hike. If I feel like I need it, i'll take a day off.
Nightey Nite,
Jessica

Suzanne

I'm glad you're feeling better! Did you figure out what was causing all the sinus problems?

Jessica

| Suzanne wrote: | | I'm glad you're feeling better! Did you figure out what was causing all the sinus problems? |
I'm not sure...??? A lot of people I work with have been having one form of cold/allergy or another. I might have caught something? It started about 3 weeks ago. Nothing seemed to really help, I started feeling better when I upped my carbs. Might have just been it working it's way out of my system.
I did buy some 1000 mg vitamin C at have been taking 1 a day. I used to take like 4 to 6 a day.
I was eating quite a bit of dairy in the form of cream and cream cheese the week before I came down with the sinus junk. Though, in the past, if I cut out dairy cold turkey, it has gone away, but it was weird.
Also, another weird thing I noticed was I was getting these weird bruises in odd places (my butt, forearm, etc) and I never bruise anymore. That was happening in the past month. It was embarrasing, as it was quite hot this month, and I was embarrassed to wear short sleeves/shorts as I had these small round bruises all over. They are now gone, thankfully, and I didn't accidentally bump into anything. I was kind of afraid someone was going to send me to HR as they probably thought they were caused by the husband. All better now though! :)
I'm just happy i'm bruise and sinus junk free again!!!
Hugs, Jessica

Suzanne
|
I can relate to the strange bruises...mine show up on my thighs, so you can imagine what was said at the beach today. I gotta remember to take my vit c.
|
Jessica
|
Vitamin C... that might be the missing link!
Today's Eats:
Smoky turkey breast and small amount of potato
3 sushi rolls and miso soup (california, spicy tuna & spicy salmon roll)
Steak & salad (salad leftover from sushi lunch).
I think the salad wasn't a good idea, I just don't do well with cruciferous veggies. Made me hungry & caused cravings. :(
Exercise:
Spent 3 hours cleaning the house!!! Vacuumed, moved almost all furniture, cleaned bathrooms, still not done, ugh, but I try to do 1 major cleaning a month.
|
Jessica
|
Today's Eats:
Smoky turkey
Cherries
ground beef patty
very small potato
shrimp bisque soup (very spicey)
Small amount of almond butter
Exercise:
Over two hours of walking/hiking in nearby park
Need to get to bed... husband came home and we're both too tired to have any fun... ah well there's always tomorrow.
|
Suzanne
|
You're doing good! :)
|
Alisa
|
Jessica, what sort of plan are you doing? It sounds a lot like Anchell. I'm glad it's working for you!
How did you make the shrimp bisque? Recipe, please!
I love your exerice routine. Switching between the elliptical and weights! Wow. Even the thought is exhausting, but I think I'm going to give it a try.
Hope you have a great day!
|
Dean
|
Yah... Jessica,
You are one of these people that are making me SICK! All this exercise!
I think you are doing great!
I just wish I could get my ass in gear and start up again.
I guess I will have to keep reading your journal and keep feeling guilty about not exercising. That and the Suzanne thing. But, I'm beginning to think that's just all talk.
|
Jessica
|
Suzanne, thank you!!!
Alisa, thanks too... I'll post the shrimp bisque and any other recipes you'd like. :) I'll try to post tomorrow night. I'm kind of doing paleo, I know potatoes aren't paleo, so yes it's kind of Anchell, as cruciferous veggies just hate me, cause cravings, hunger, and go right through me. :(
BAsically, i'm eating meat, and a carb. I think I might be overdoing the carb/fruit part right now, so I might back off a little. No carbs doesn't work for me, but neither does too many. And I can't eat grains/dairy so it's like paleo Anchell with more variety. :)
Dean, you'll start exercising when you know it's the right time. No way to force it. :)
Today's eats:
cherry-chocolate smoothie (powdered egg whites, coconut milk, frozen cherries, tiny amounts of stevia, vanilla, and cocoa powder)
Pineapple & burger patty (horseradish/heinz 57, just a bit, on the burger patty)
Salmon
Smoky Turkey Breast & small amount of potato, touch of butter, salt, pepper
Exercise:
1 hour of elliptical alternated with squats, deadlifts, bench press, military, curls, triceps, crunches, calf raises, rows. About 3 minutes of elliptical, 1 set of weights, alternating, for an hour. I probably shouldn't have done a whole hour. Can barely move! I plan on doing this (maybe not an hour?) Monday, Wed, Friday. On other days i'll do some hiking/walking. Well if it's a cleaning the house day, i'll not do the walking, lol.
I'm beat! off to bed.
And... no nap today! Hooray!!! So i'm off to bed early for a change, i'm so tired....
Jessica
|
Jessica
|
Alisa, I posted the shrimp bisque soup in the seafood recipe section!
Today's Eats (I'll login later as i'm sure i'll modify it):
blueberry cocoa smoothie (coconut milk, egg white powder, vanilla, stevia, frozen blueberries, cocoa powder)
small burger patty with horseradish & heinz 57 sauce
Smoky turkey breast & small amount of potato/butter/salt/pepper
1 banana with 1 T peanut butter mixed with cocoa powder, vanilla, sweetzfree
Later on: ???
Exercise:
ESC*
Long walk*
*no those two are not related, lol
Jessica, needing a nap badly right now
|
jeff
|
Ok, Jessica, you had a long walk, AND some esc and you posted that at 5:17??? Sounds like somebody had a "nooner". (I'm jealous, by the way)
|
Jessica
|
nooner? ha. actually I see where it looks like I did all that by 5:17! I had ESC when I got home from work (@ 3:30 pm) and we went for a walk LATER. Sorry, didn't mean to make it sound exciting!! Well the ESC was pretty exciting, my husband works from home and it was pretty convenient.
Oh, and I did take a 1.5 hour nap after that ESC. Wow, what a workout!!!

Mango Smoothie
Sushi & Miso Soup
Salmon & tiny, tiny amount of rice
Banana with tiny amount of peanut butter

Hey guys, no problem... chat away!
I'm going to post my exercise miles here (It looks like my numbers got deleted in the copying/pasting in the exercise challenge thread, so i'll just post mine here):
Today I ate:
3 hard boiled eggs
turkey & potato
steak & potato
Steak & rice
Exercise:
Over 2 hours of walking (lots of walking in errands, and over an hour walk at a local park hiking)
1000 mile challenge: 14 miles complete
I'm beat!
Jessica
|
Dave
|
Jessica what's with the rice and potatos?
Just curious.
|
Jessica
|
I'm not following low carb/carnivore just eating paleo with rice/potatoes added. I'm eating more Zone ratios (40/30/30). So i'm a little bit different. I wasn't able to do the workouts I love and need and never got adapted to low carb/zero carb like so many others do. So i'm following my own plan. I lift 3x/week for an hour and do my elliptical, fast walking on the other days. Also I feel much better this way mentally, too.
I eat eggs, meat, chicken, fish, rice, potatoes, fruit. Very rarely do I eat veggies as i've never been able to digest them. I make a lot of recipes out of "The Garden of Eating" book. I'm very much allergic to dairy and wheat and most grains, so I avoid them.
It's what works for me. :) But I do eat lots of protein/meat.

|
Jessica

I believe rice is a grain? It doesn't bother me like wheat/oats.
Today I ate:
Eggs & a banana
Turkey & potato
Steak/cherries
Burger Patty/Peach
Exercise:
Went geocaching with some friends for 3 hours (hiking in the woods).
26 miles complete for 1000 mile challenge
Jessica, tired, ready for bed!

Feeling pretty darn good even though TOM is supposed to visit tomorrow. I think it might be all the exercise i've been doing lately.
Today I ate:
Coffee with 1 tablespoon cream
Smoothie (banana/vanilla/egg white powder/macadamia nut butter/stevia)
Turkey & Potato
Steak & Potato
Lots of water
Exercise:
Will do an hour of lifting tonight (my standard compound heavy lifting for a set, two minutes on the elliptical, a set of weights, 2 minutes on elliptical, repeat).
30 out of 1000 miles will be completed tonight. :)
Jessica

Thanks, Jeff. I took off the night from working out.
TOM is now like 5 days late. Don't think i'm pregnant, and got into a fight with DH tonight, it's now 11 pm and i'm stuffy, sad, not doing too well. Hopefully it's just bad PMS and i'll have relief soon.
Too miserable and exhausted to write what I ate today, it was all within my plan though.
Off to bed, try to get some sleep before getting up at 5 am...

Hey, Jessica -
I took the day off from exercising too. I'm having the most evil PMS I've had in months this week. TOM should be Saturday, but man, I do feel like killing people. So far, though, I've been just trying to kill a pan of LC brownies. And part of a pot roast. And some LC ginger cookies. And four iced breves. And............

If you hurry, you can make it there before you "lose the urge".
|
Susanne
|
Actually, I am able to summon this urge at will; usually, I control it nicely. However, it's just totally uncontrollable at this time of the month. That's why I figure it's only fair to warn people when TOM is pending...then, if they are dumb, it's their own dang fault.
Since Heather is about due north of me, I guess I better head out. See y'all in a couple days.
Jessica, sorry for hijacking your journal with homicidal musings....
|
Heather

Oh man, what a way to make my evening! Just reading this is such stress relief......
|
Jessica

Hijack away... you all made me smile!
Well TOM is 5 DAYS LATE.
I've plowed through 2 home pregnancy tests, I feel fine, well, except for the PMS feelings. I guess i'll test again in a few days. Hmmmm.... I HAVE felt a little nauseous at times but nothing like when I was pregnant the last two times. We'll see!
Today I ate:
Black Cherry Protein Smoothie
Char Grilled Chicken Breast, Salad, plain baked potato w/salt/pepper
Salmon & Rice
*not really too hungry*
Exercise:
24 sets of my regular lifts alternated with @ a minute on the elliptical for an hour total
Miles in Challenge:38 miles out of 1000

Okay, my period is 8 days late, and i've used my FIFTH PREGNANCY TEST today, still negative. I even tried a different brand. WTF!!!! I thought my breasts hurt but it's just my pecs from working out last night...
Well if nothing happens this weekend i'm going to go into the Dr next week. :( I did recheck my tracking methods, and last month was only 20 day cycle (normally 28 days) so who knows... this is so damn frustrating!!! Am I pregnant, or not... geez...
Anyway...
What I ate Today:
Smoothie made with frozen banana/egg white powder/coconut milk/vanilla/cinnamon
Qdoba Naked Burrito
2 bananas with 2 Tablespoons macadamia nut butter
Small Steak with Small Sweet Potato
Not too hungry... kind of nauseous. Maybe I just have some kind of bug/infection....
Exercise:
None today/tonight... I had wanted to go mall walking as it was raining, but didn't.
Nightey Night, Jessica
|
Jessica
|
I think i've been overexercising... pain in my right hip area. I was planning on walking/elliptical, but the little walking I did today doing errands hurt quite a bit. :(
Today I ate:
2 soft boiled eggs, 2 oz turkey, 6 oz fresh pineapple
Sushi lunch (sushi/miso soup/small salad)
Steak & a Peach & 5 strawberries
Mocha frosty (dairy free, had protein, like soft serve ice cream, paleo from Rachel's book)
Took a long nap this afternoon, and amazingly my hip hurts a lot less. Ah the power of recuperation! Still no TOM, took a pregnancy test this morning, still negative, WTF. 8 days late. :(
Jessica

Hang in there, Jessica... It'll all resolve one way or another soon.

Jessica
|
Thank you, Heather and Susanne.
It's just so weird. Might be the diet change/exercise increase. I cried this morning for no real apparant reason, maybe TOM is going to happen soon. Ugh, i'm happy with either TOM or pregnancy, but geez, give me one or the other, lol!!!
Hugs, Jessica
|
Jessica
|
Very tired... lots of walking, plus took an hour + hike around my neighborhood this evening, no nap, no period, not pregnant (according to damn pregnancy test this morning, period = 10 days late, ugh whatever)...
Today I ate:
Ugh, can't remember, pretty much what I usually ate, i'm so tired I can't think anymore, lol!!!!
Exercise:
1 hour + brisk walking, plus a ton of walking at the mall, though I only counted as 1 hour, or 4 miles, of walking.
Good night!
Jessica
|
Alisa
|
Wow, Jessica, you are doing amazing with the exercise!
I'm sorry for the TOM difficulties. I hope something happens one way or another soon. Being held in suspense is awful.
We're here for you, though!
|
Jessica
|
Alisa, thank you for the support, it is appreciated more than you know!
Yeah, TOM finally showed up!!! It was weird as right before, I felt so fantastic. Geez, finally!!!
Today I ate (and will eat):
smoothie (pineapple/coconut milk/egg white powder)
Baked Yam, 2T ranch dressing, can of tuna
1 banana and 5 strawberries sliced and topped with a mixture of almond butter, egg white powder, stevia, touch of honey, other stuff, water
Salmon and some kind of fruit or potato
Exercise: Planning on doing weight lifting ONLY (no longer doing a whole hour of lifting alternated with elliptical, I felt some pain in my hip last time I did this, I think i'll break up my cardio and weightlifting. Also only doing 2 sets of each lift, not 3, at least for now). Will report time/miles later on.
Jessica

Jessica
|
Well I didn't work out last night (and I had a really good excuse too that I won't horrify you all with). ;)
Will try to tonight. Going to play it by ear. Same kind of thing as last night. Will try!!!
Today I ate:
Banana Smoothie
Turkey/sweet potato
Lamb/winter squash
Jessica
|
Susanne
|
Hang in there!!
|
Jessica
|
Thanks, Susanne, feeling MUCH better! :)
Did 1/2 hour of lifting/cardio last night. Did 1.5 hours of brisk walking tonight.
Today I ate:
Banana Smoothie
Beef Patty/small amount potato
Salad w/mandarin oranges/chicken breast/almonds/lettuce/dressing
Strawberries dipped in almond butter protein spread
I thought I ate something else but can't remember.
That is about it... going to bed shortly. I've been sleeping very soundly this past week, I don't have to take melatonin at night. :)

|
Thank you, Heather and CarolAnn. :) I'm feeling a lot better. It takes me awhile to get into the groove of exercise... several weeks before it feels like a part of my life.
Today I ate:
Small amount of banana smoothie (busy, in meetings all morning)
Salad with salmon, olive oil, vinegar, fresh strawberries
Salad with blueberries, pecans, raspberry vinegar, olive oil, touch of goat's cheese
Exercise:
1 hour (2 minute elliptical alternated with a set of weightlifting)
Gawd am I TIRED!!!!

Hey Jessica,
I want to commend you on the nice variety you have with your daily menus! That takes alot of work and planning.
My problem is that I tend to eat the same things everyday and get sick of them..then you reach for the ol' carb.
No offense to any of the ladies, but I thank god, allah, satan, buddah and anybody else who will listen for making me a man and never having to deal with TOM stuff.
|
Jessica
|
Steve... lol!!!
I laugh because I feel like i've been a man in past lives, and I struggle sometimes being a woman! For the most part, I really enjoy being a woman.
Today I ate:
eggs, tomato, red pepper, mushrooms scrambled with olive oil, pear
Apple
Salad with lettuce, turkey, olive oil, raspberry vinegar, blueberries, walnuts
Salad with lettuce, mandarin oranges, almonds, chicken breast
Exercise:
1 hour of brisk walking (wanted to lift but still hip hurting from last weight workout). Oh... and ESC!
A coworker and good friend basically told me that I look awesome, have lost weight, and look gorgeous!!! I think the exercise i've been doing plus eating what works for me is finally paying off. This made me extremely happy.

I'm the exact oppotite now, people ask,"didn't you used to really work out?"
Weren't you once Steve?"

Yes, progress pics would be great! I'll leave it to Steve and the guys to pressure you on the bikini, though!
Your menus look wonderful! They always make me hungry. I'm so glad you've found something that works for you!
Have a safe and happy holiday!

LOL Steve... you are too funny!!!
Alisa, thank you, you are doing awesome too! I know, I know, I need to take progress pics, I just feel so fat. :( We went to a party today and there were pics of me from July 5th, and I just wanted to rip them to shredds. It makes me so mad as in high school I was a size 3 and thought I was fat. Ugh. I used to be so skinny people would nag me to eat more, and now I feel so fat... okay, i'll shut the heck up now... enough of that... gotta keep moving up and onward!
Today I ate:
2 soft boiled eggs, 2 oz turkey, stir fried cabbage, mushrooms, red pepper and broccoli, stir fried with olive oil
Salad with sprouts, eggs, turkey, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, red pepper, lettuce, etc, with balsalmic vinegar & olive oil
At the party: raw veggies (no dip), a bunch of boiled shrimp, a burger patty, some more raw veggies
I'll probably have a smoothie or something later.
Exercise:
1/2 hour total of elliptical and a few sets of deadlifts & militaries.
My right hip hurts again. I think I need to lay off the weights, especially squats for a while. Maybe this week i'll focus on cardio. Hey, it's working well for Jeff & Dean!!! :) That is all I did in high school, then I started lifting in college. I put on muscle VERY easily and maybe i'll go back to 1-2 times a week of lifting as I think 3x/week is too much for me and my hip and leg start hurting again.

Today I ate:

banana smoothie
beef
something else later, not sure
exercise:
1 hour total elliptical, squats, biceps (i'm a glutton for punishment, I guess)

Hi Jessica,
Thanks for posting in my journal.
Everyone is making me feel so welcome.
You are doing so well on your exercise.
I noticed that we both have Harry Potter as our favorite book character.
Have you read all of the books too?

Shawn

Back to work today, ugh, oh well, short week!
Was quite tired when I got home from work today, so ran a bunch of errands for 2 hours and came home and took "a nap" which 4 hours!!!
Needless to say I got up @ 9:30 pm, slowly "woke up" and here it is 11:15 pm and i'm quite awake. Ugh. I really needed it, I think with my workouts I need more. I think I need to set an alarm or something if I do take a nap so I don't go over an hour...
Today I ate:
Banana Smoothie
Salmon & an apple
3 soft boiled eggs & raspberries
Exercise:
had planned an hour walk but obviously that didn't happen due to my nap. fronts of thighs are really sore, either from the squats last night or the elliptical or both. So not sure if an hour walk would have helped with that or if it was better to have a rest night.
I do notice after taking a nap, how much less sore I am, and my muscles feel more pronounced. Ah, the secret of rest!
I think i'll do the 1 hour weights/cardio every other day, see how that goes, and if/when I finally adapt, add in walking on alternate days. My coworker told me i'm super woman today, and I said no, I want to be batgirl!!!
Nightey Nite, Jessica

you are batgirl...she rocks.
|
Jessica
|
Mmm... Batgirl... she is so damn sexy, lol!!!
Today I Ate:
Black Cherry Smoothie
Turkey & Potato
Sushi
3 soft boiled eggs & sweet potato & almond butter
Okay i'm already at my calorie limit and I haven't even worked out yet!!! I know why though. Yes, PMS is already here, which = hunger. I usually don't feel too much hunger between my smoothie and lunch but today I broke down at 9:30 am and had my turkey/potato meal. Hence me having to get some carry out sushi for lunch.
Exercise:
Planning on doing 1 hour of weighlifting/elliptical combo. Should start drinking some caffeine right about now!

Wow, the elliptical/weight-lifting combo totally kicks my butt! Good job on an hour! I can't imagine!
Your eating looks fine. I notice that I have hungry days, but they tend to regulate themselves. Provided binging doesn't happen. That's a whole nother story!
So, c'mon, Batgirl, don't be so hard on yourself! I think you're doing great!

Ugh, long day. After asking the guy near me to turn down his yack radio for the upteemth time, finally talked to his manager. Manager came in, guy left with him, a minute later, guy was back, and his manager emailed me and said he told him he has to wear head phones. Of course he bitched and moaned to others, oh well. I'm just happy I can actually concentrate again! You think he'd be happy... he can listen to his radio louder now. What a moron.
Today I ate:
Salmon & raspberries
Turkey & pineapple
banana smoothie
beef
Exercise:
Spent 2 hours vacuuming and cleaning the floors nonstop.
Ugh. Does that count, lol?

I'm sure it did your body good, but it won't get you any closer to Florida. Not unless I can count the six hours I spent vacuuming, mopping, and doing yard work, before going to work!

Want to get in an early hour walk tomorrow morning. My dad's 70th birthday party is tomorrow, so I need to go pick up a cake/balloons and go decorate the party room at my sister's place. His actual birthday is 9/11. What a day for your birthday to be on!!!
