Ken Kesey slept hereI mean in Eugene, Oregon, not on me or in this post. I figured a bunch of raw-meat-eatin' hooligans riding in a psychedelic bus might give a rat's patoot about where Ken Kesey slept.
I joined this board about a week ago and have spent waaaay too much time reading everyone else's posts, and not really saying howdy to anyone. So, howdy!
I'm here because someone over at ALC mentioned the MagicBus just after I finished reading theBear's thread. I haven't been doing Paleo or Neanderthin or any other Stone Age program--just Atkins/PP stuff--but as soon as I read Bear's first post I felt something "right" about carnivory. Not only because of repeated and lengthy stalls on regular LC, but because something in my body just seemed to...well, I don't know how to describe it without getting all woo about it, but it nudged me into dropping rubbish from my diet before I got to the fifth page of the thread. And that's not like me at all; I usually research to within an inch of my life before jumping into something, but, well, here I am.
So, it's been three weeks since I've eaten any real compost material (a teaspoon of onion in some ground beef here, two macadamia nuts there) and I feel great. And my latest stall is busted (by five pounds )!!
The research-y side of me is getting antsy, though, so I'm thinking I need to read a few things and get a little more background on what, exactly, I'm up to with my bod here. I'd love to hear what you guys think would be a good place to start (I hear Loren Cordain's a bit of a low-fat wonk, so maybe I'll skip him...?). I check into the Hyperlipid blog pretty regularly, but I really need to learn some basic biochem before I can do more than nod admiringly at his posts. Where would you all recommend a newbie carnivore begin their reading?
Oh, and I'm really looking forward to the Carnivore Challenge. I've been cooking my steaks blue (first time ever) and loving it, so maybe the Challenge will push me over the edge into red bloody rawness
Thanks for launching this bus trip--it's been an informative and really fun week of surfing!

Hi Rose! Welcome aboard!
Love your witty writing style! Think you're going to have some fun here.
Congrats on the great success with the big switch! WTG! Sounds like it wasn't too painful a transition (lucky woman!).
As for the basic biochem, well, when it comes to the intricacies of metabolism, seems there is still a lot of unchartered territory, guess work and mere speculation surrounding it all.
It's very difficult to sort out or to measure what is 'real' in terms of the specific workings of all the biochemical/metabolic pathways that are at work in the human body, and even then, what is 'proven' can so often be shown to be more a product of how data/studies/experiments are interpreted rather that what we could call 'scientific fact'.
However, there are a few sites that have some great info that I've found helpful. They don't necessarily concur with each other about everything, and much seems to evoke plenty of debate! But I guess that's just as well, otherwise what the hell would be left for all of us to do??!

I'm sure others here will have plenty of other great sources too!
Again, welcome, it's good to have you here!

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. And thanks for the referrals, Billi-Jean! I read Dr. Mike's blog all the time, but the other two are new to me; I'll check them out.
