Kristelle's hormonal rollercoasterSo while this forum is not about hormones, hormones do affect how we respond to our diet. For those who don't know, I had a total hysterectomy (i.e. both ovaries taken out).
I've struggled since my op with hormones. Part of why I also decided to change my diet and hopefully improve my health which it has, definetly!
Lately, I've been taking no hormones and feel better than ever. I don't or rarely experience any of the problems I did before. No hot flushes yet either. So, right now, my body seems to be producing just enough to keep me sane and happy!
Oh...I'm never taking progesterone again, at least not in the near future. It sure relaxes me but also gives me the worst cramps, triggers cravings for sweets and salty foods, and seems to be connected to allergic reactions.

You're right, Kristelle. Hormones are way more important than most people realize. Even most doctors, dieticians, and nutritionists don't have a clue as to the importance of hormones as they relate to weight management.
ETA: Nice avatar.

Thanks Jeff.
So, I'm officially 11lbs heavier than I was a couple of months ago. From 135lbs to 146lbs. BUT...
I'm feeling so much better right now w/o hormones. Maybe my body is refusing to shed pounds because more fat=more estrogen and I'm not giving it any. Hmmm...but whenever I take some, even a small dose, I feel so yucky. Right now, I'll just let my body be my guide.
I'm also much less hungry than b4, eating smaller portions and eating no more than twice a day. I always seem to have more energy after my meals which is new to me, b4 it was either tired or rarely energized. No bloating, no cramping. Going to the bathroom regularly also which is a first in a loooooooooooong time.
I'm sticking to animal foods only, all raw. Beef mostly. No salt, no spices, no additives. No nothing. And water...gulp, gulp.
Oh...and yesterday, I dreamt that I was dipping my meat in that hot sauce or red sauce Dean talks about so often...and I was so happy to taste it...it was like finally tasting something really rare, like caviar or something. DREAMS! I hope he's doing well...
Goodnite to all.

Thanks Dean but I had an apple yesterday, reminds me of the apple the witch gave to Snow White...I gave in yesterday, EVIL apple.
In any case, I'm really sticking to animal food. Don't u worry. I'm in control here, no one else.
I've noticed that sometimes, after I eat, I literarly crash and often the reason is too much histamine, too quickly...an andrenaline response, blood sugar drops and boom...I'm dead tired and craving for something sweet. That's what happened yesterday and I had the WORST headache in a long time. Bone marrow was most likely the culprit.
Histamine is definetly my big enemy. And my adrenal glands may just be on the verge of losing it. Going zero-carb is even tougher cause meat contains much histidine which converts to histamine and histamine is required to digest fat and protein such that I always end up with lots of histamine in my system. My threshold appears to be low. Whether this is temporary or not (i.e. need to give my body a break for awhile for threshold to increase), I'm not sure.
I also realized that...
1) bone marrow is problematic as it appears to contain much histamine
2) any fermented product like cheese or CULTURED butter (that's why butter was giving me problems) causes me trouble
Beef is ok, the kind of buy is barely aged. A little liver from time to time is also ok. I bought some fresh non-cultured butter and ate some today with my meat, we'll see what happens. I also am eating less in one sitting, just enough to make me satiated. B4, I would eat until REALLY full.
So while I'm trying to reduce the histamine load, I've also figured out how to inhibit histamine secretion. It appears that progesterone, one of the two dominant female hormones, does that while estrogen promotes histamine release. So while I've often associated certain negative symptoms with progesterone, they may have been entirely due to estrogen and in the last 24 hours, this seems to be the case. I've restarted hormones, a low dose estrogen with a good amount of progesterone. Maybe that combo will do the trick and help me tolerate higher histamine levels eventually, who knows?
That's all folks.

Kristelle, I feel so bad for you with all that you are going through with your hormonal issues. I really wish you luck in getting this all figured out. I consider myself so fortunate that low carbing and even ZC have been the easiest things in the world for me to do. It just isn't fair, is it?
Anyways, keep at it. You'll get it all figured out.

It does seem that guys have a much easier time zero-carbing. Sorry about that.
