Kristi's adventures, Part 3: Relearning hungerThis was somewhat talked about in Chapter 1 (or my first journal) but this time, intend to go all the way with it.
I think I eat too much and in the process, am overhwhelming my body. A raw, only meat and fat diet is very nutrient-dense and as such, eating too frequently can strain the body's organs by giving it too much of a nutrient or nutrients. Too much of a good thing isn't good either.
This may be part of the problem. The other being hormonal. I've restarted hormones tonight and plan to take 2mg daily. Depending on how I feel, I will increase or decrease. We'll see...
So, my goal is to relearn TRUE hunger as some call it. To feel the hunger of the paleolithic human, the TRUE hunger that allows one to fully enjoy raw meat and fat and feel 100% satisfied after such a "feast".
As mentioned before, I suspect our ancestors went through periods when they ate nothing for days and to emulate them would only benefit us. Look at carnivores in the wild. And they are more active than me.
Considering I'm not a very active person and probably don't need much, I may have to REALLY eat very small portions or eat 1x every 2-3 days, maybe even 4 days. Who knows?
I may still be spilling ketones b/c I am eating too much. Simple as that.
So, here goes...I will be eating when I am really hungry, having nothing to do with the psyche, all to do with my body's cells needing energy. I must REacquire my instinct...a tough but doable mission. Wish me luck!

Kristelle,
Your noble goal is inspiring. You've got me thinking about how I eat several times a day - grazing habits die hard - and for me, intermittent fasting is an experience I want to give myself during the May contest.
Thanks for voicing this.

kristelle, I'm not sure how much food you eat, but I believe Bear said a person would get all the nutrients the body needs from one pound of raw beef per day. I don't think that's implying one needs to eat every day, just on the average, that's what the body needs.
I think this is an interesting thing you're doing. Good luck!

Haven't eaten in 24 hours. Feel great. Just a little hungry but not enough to go on a binge. My stomach is growling a little, that's all.

Kristi...it is very doable and I know you can do it. I have been doing just that for a couple of years, simply because of time constraints and I'm not hungry but once a day, at night, when I get home from work and can finally relax. I'm not physically active most of the time, just very busy all of the time.
I wish you luck and I'm in your corner. Keep us posted!

Kristelle,
I've been having these same thoughts and have been planning to really cut back on the amount of food I eat. I was thinking about smaller meals but now I'm thinking about eating less often.
I was a low fat/low protein dieter and when I first started eating meat, I was just so relieved to not be hungry. I think I needed to eat a lot for a while. Now I think it's time to cut back.
Thanks for your post. I'll be following this thread with interest.

Kristi, I really enjoy your posts. Your "experiments"are fascinating, you should be a scientist!
I've always thought there was something silly about the whole 3 meals a day thing. Eat when you're hungry I say. And there is no better suppressor of hunger than fat. In my experience so far, the fattier the meal, the longer I can go without feeling hungry.

Went a whole day without eating and don't plan on eating until all negative symptoms disappear and TRUE hunger appears. I feel pretty good actually.
This is an interesting essay about fasting and true hunger is mentioned. I found the information very enlightening.

Part of me is scientifically driven. I am a very curious person. I always want to get to the truth of the matter and won't stop experimenting, searching until I do. I'm pretty stubborn too. Perhaps, a perfectionist...not so good but I'm getting better.
I'm glad you're enjoying my experiments, Alex.

In Good Calories, Bad Calories Taubes notes that people on starvation diets.....that is not eating at all......report that after about 3 days, all hunger disappears. I'm wondering if you'll have any sense of hunger at all. Just something to think about.

What disappears is actually APPETITE not hunger. It's more like a psychological craving of addictive nature.
Then, days or weeks later, true HUNGER appears and this is a sign that you must eat. The sooner this comes, the healthier your body was to begin with.

More than 48 hours without eating anything. Very "hungry" but apparently this is normal on the second day and the third day,"hunger" should cease. I HOPE so!!!
I really want to feel true hunger (and ketoadaptation) and I ain't giving up. I want to see how it feels when the body is fed optimally. I can't wait!

Here is my update after 3 days of water fasting. Overall, it's going pretty well.
Hunger pangs are less intense but still there. Skin is softer, more lubricated than usual. Eyes watery and burning a little. Still a few hives here and there. I feel weaker today than in the previous days, especially around my legs and I'm a little dizzy, lightheaded, almost feels like I'm drunk. Feeling a little euphoric. :)
Bloating gone and abdominal cramps completely gone as well. My left ear is still blocked and I am still producing some mucus. Headache on the 1st day is no more. Barely drank and going to the bathroom 3-4x daily. Lost 1.5 lbs. Tongue is white-coated, cheeks somewhat pinkish. Some brain fog but not much. Breathing is, at times, different, I can almost feel my heart beat in my throat, a strange feeling. But cool too. :)

I wonder what would happen if you begin adding small amounts of fat to your fast? Is there such a thing as a fat fast? Has anyone ever tried going a few days or weeks on nothing but fat?

Alex, there is in fact such a thing as a fat fast. Some people use butter.
Kristelle, how are you doing?

Hmm, I might just try it, just for fun.

I was gonna start a Challenge in the Ward called 100% Animal Fat Challenge.
And, I was debating on whether to include dairy.

I'm doing well Dean. Thanks for asking.
Today, my hunger is much less so that's good. I'm losing weight too, about 1lb per day. I'm down to 141, started at 144.

5th day of fasting. Hunger is still there, highs and lows. I am down to 140lbs, losing a pound per day, as expected. Tongue still white coated and have my moments of physical weakness. Sometimes feel dizzy. My body was aching a little yesterday, especially around lower back and my legs and feet. I am resting alot more.
Stopped my hormones AGAIN!, cause this time, I'm almost sure they are causing me problems. I always get the same symptoms: bloating, gas, stomach aches and hives on my cheekbones mostly.
I might as well stop everything since I'm fasting, right? Once I break my fast, I might try the hormones one last time just to see; maybe my body will be in a better shape and tolerate them, who knows?
Last time I took hormones: yesterday afternoon, around 1pm
Last time I ate: Monday April 28, around 7pm
