Little Miss GrokOk, I'm still waiting for Primal Blueprint to get here. But basically, I'm mostly carnivore. Eating beef, pork, lamb, eggs and chicken. Some fish. I DO eat veggies, but only peppers and broccoli (I LIKE them!) but not much and always with butter or meat, like Italian sausage and peppers. I belong to a gym, but I need to start going when I get the book and the exercise Mark Sisson recommends for primal. I'm going to try walking on my days off, if we don't have T-storms and it isn't almost 100..
I need to lose 140 lbs. I did LC for a month and lost 6 lbs, but have lost 10 lbs in the 2 1/2 weeks since I started Primal.

Welcome to journaland MssGrok.
I have read primal blueprint but the 100 to 150 grams of carbs he recommends daily is way too much for me as an older person with no metabolism to speak of and my health is so bad I can't do heavy workouts, nor would I want to. Figure heavy workouts are for young people

Actually, he has variable amounts of carb intake. Anywhere from zero up to 150g.

Welcome aboard the bus...
I am in the process of losing 90 pounds and I have lost 45 of it, but it has taken me almost 10 months to do so. ..and I imagine it might take me another 10-12 to lose the rest.. Losing 6 pounds in a month is nothing to sneeze at..and the longer you do this the slower it goes. Also the slower you lose it, the more likely you will keep it off.
May I suggest you take your measurements? I have lost over 23 inches from my hips, bust, and waist..and often when I don't lose any weight for MONTHS at a time..I still lose inches...and that alone has kept me going.
Keep up the great work...and I eat veggies too...I just keep my total carbs pretty low...we all have to do what works for us.

What yOu said
You have to do what works for you and what you are comfortable with. Patience is the one thing that we all need to develop to stay on track. That's why we are here to support each other.

Went to the gym today and wanted one of the trainers to show me proper form for squats and dead lifts. What I got was a near argument with the owner who THINKS he knows all about fitness.
Idiot trainer quotes of the day:
1) squats and deadlifts are advanced exercise and are unsafe. Machines strengthen and stabilize you.
2) low carb/primal (I had to explain what primal was) is unsustainable and unhealthy..it’s all about moderation for a healthy diet
I’m seeing a different trainer tomorrow. He LIKES heavy lifting like lunges, deadlifts and squats and is pro- low carb.

I tend not to listen to the "professionals"..
Glad you are seeking out one that will suit your needs..

Welcome Miss Grok! The longer you ride the bus, the better it gets. Keep us updated on how it goes and ask questions all you like. You won't find a better group of folks than on this bus.
Oh, I almost forgot, you're not an official bus rider till you've tried some of the kool aid.....drink up and hold on!

I'm glad you stood your ground with that so-called trainer. I work with a woman who's 56 and trains like crazy all the time. Every year she has to go in for knee surgery, or arm surgery or some sort of surgery. Of course, she just has to work out at lot or she'll get fat
Find a good trainer who will respect your dietary wishes.

This guy is GREAT! Instead of assuming I wanted to 'tone' my muscles and pushing core workouts and cardio, he asked me what I wanted and actually LISTENED to me.
He gave me a workout that's mostly free weights with a couple of machines, working the big muscle groups first and a smaller muscles like bicep and triceps at the end, IF I feel like it. He even gave me exercises that can be a altered as I lose fat. Like body weight squats with the exercise ball against the wall for now, but regular squats when these are too easy.
He even agreed with low carb about you HAVE to eat fat for energy if you aren't eating carbs and agreed low carb is NOT high protein, it's high FAT and healthy!

This is basically the workout
Ball Squats
Bench Press
Hammer Strength machine
Plie Squats
Dumbbell Military Press
Lat Pull Downs
Walking lunge
15 reps at 8-9out of 10 toughness x 2 circuits
Add smaller muscle groups afterward if you feel like it. (Bicep curls, Triceps pull downs, Front raises, Lat Raises) Same reps x1 set

Miss Grok- I love weight training. I wanted to mention that the pains after training will gradually get much smaller. Your muscles take a few weeks to adapt to the training. I hardly ever get sore afterwards now, unless I really go beyond my normal lifting. I am amazed that you found a trainer that supports LC/ primal. So many of them believe in the mainstream diet info. This one sounds awesome.
Welcome aboard the bus!

Heather is right..I lift weights 3 days a week and I have no pain at all anymore..it's amazing..
Keep up the good work!
