October No News Is Good News ChallengeI don't know about you, but, I've been slipping a bit lately, and I'm determined to get back on track with my eating and exercise.
Tonight at midnight a new month begins. I'm gonna make sure I stick to my guns during October. If I don't, I'll come here and report it. That will keep me accountable.
So, if anyone else would like to join me, please post here. Let's see if we can stay clear of the Ward during October. If you don't hear from us, that means we're doin' great!

I've been pretty clean but I'll join you in staying on track Dean.
I'm experiencing problems losing. I'm eating very low carb, I even dumped dairy for 5 days and still haven't dropped a pound. Maybe it's the heat?
Anyway, I noticed your mail in my spam box which is weird because all the others came through ok.
We're back on the bus!

Let me put down this chocolate chip cookie so I can type better.
There. Good job on getting back on the bus, Dean! Even though you haven't actually seen me around, I'm on the bus in spirit! Still trying to even out those hormones and get my body working the way it should.
I've actually been fairly on track lately. I've been trying to stick with a whey protein shake or two during the day, and then a small salad (mostly so I can drown it in balsamic vinaigrette dressing) and a large steak -- seared on both sides, raw in the middle.
Oh, and a glass of wine or Jameson's. Can't seem to give that up, though I'm trying to stick to only one glass. Of course, I get to pick the glass!
|
jeff

Karen, congrats on the quitting smoking.
Bawdy, good to see you! I really hope you can get your hormonal issues worked out. I'm convinced hormones are behind your problems with losing weight.

I need to get on track quick. It's been an awful summer and I am back to eatng everything. Just got a diagnosis of diabetes and I am back on blood pressure meds. So I am trying to get on track. Quitting the soda is the hardest but am down to 3 a day.

Kim | Then the Bus is the place to be!

Okay, what are the rules? Only meat and water? Dairy, coconut oil?
|
Dean
|
No rules. You rule. Whatever is cool.
Stick to your way of carnivore eating and exercise... and if you don't, come report your slip ups here. You don't have to go into details, unless you want to.
I'll tell you one thing. I was not doing too well during September. I was sliding down that slippery slope... but, now, knowing I would have to come here and report any screw ups, I'm doin' fantastic. I have been right on track with my eating and exercising. I set realistic goals, and I'm livin' up to them just fine.
I like the support this board offers me. It keeps me accountable, and I know I'm not alone in my struggle. I'm determined to keep on track for the rest of 2008. I just hope it will help others who are struggling with this. We all live around so much junk food and sedentary lifestyle, we must have support. At least that's my take on the whole thing.
So, jump in and join us, Lana, and anyone else who might need that extra bit of help. I can tell you, it does help.
Rock on, Bus riders!

I almost had a meltdown last night, I'm not sure what happened but I didn't do it. I had a feeling I wanted to eat some rice, not sure why but I wanted to. So, I thought that wouldn't be good how about I munch on some chicken wings and meat balls that I had in the freezer. I put the food in the microwave and started getting my vitamins and swallowed.... I only take them if I have food in my stomach. Went for a bathroom break, came back and realized I wasn't even hungry. I ate one meatball and put all the other stuff in the fridge. I am completely stunned by this.

Yesterday I was really hungry and ate way too many chicken wings, the ones that are coated with hot sauce from the factory and are so salty that a person would retain a huge amount of water and have the scale scream at them in the morning....

I'm still doing crappy. I can't figure it out. You would think with diabetes now hanging over my head, I would get with it. I am slowing down some on the junk but not completely cutting it out.

Kim,
Does it help to replace the high carb junk with low carb junk? I've usually been successful with that approach. Go from using cookies and donuts and ice cream to using coffee, wine, cheese, pork rinds and sour cream, hot dogs, brats, and other processed meats, etc. Snack on that stuff for awhile and try to get beyond the sugar/carb withdrawals. Considering what I've been through, I'm surprised I have been able to maintain a relatively good diet. I have been eating some hot dogs, and doing more cheese than I normally would, and perhaps drinking a bit more wine than I normally would, but still keeping the drinking to late evenings, and not really doing too much of it.
I would rather eat chicken hot wings and pizza omelets and stuff like that, than to bombard my system with carbs. It's much easier for me to go from the above mentioned junk food, to eating rib-eyes and chuck-eyes and things like that. Burger patties with cheese and mayo and shrooms might not be ideal, but, it's a hell of a lot better than cookies and pie and ice cream. For me, I can certainly feel the difference. Sugar always brings me a lot of anxiety, and that's the last thing I need right now, suffering from PTSD.
Hope that helps, and it's great to see you on the Bus. Hang in there, Kim.
|
jeff
|
Yes, hang in there, Kim. I agree with what Dean said.
|
Kim
|
It might help although I don't like coffee, wine, or pork rinds, but I love cheese and brats and such. I am finding that when I do eat sweets, I don't really like them, but the pull to buy it and eat it is so strong. For example, we have a candy jar at the front desk and it is so easy to reach in.
Soda is another thing I have a problem with and even though I drink diet, that's not good for you either and I drink too much.
Maybe I'm just not trying hard enough and I'm am feeling very overwhelmed at my job right now.
I guess I'll go stock up on cheese.

|
Heather

Yeah probably should have but get together's at my Dad's always involve Bailey's. Why can't they make sugar free Bailey's with real cream? I see a business opportunity....
Well, now this weekend is a write off too. Chocolate covered peanuts, cream puffs and macadamia nuts....
Back to the rum, diet coke and raw meat diet tonight....

Since I'm the only one that ate anything off plan this month, let me just point out my weight is now below my original goal and I'm working on November's goal of losing more weight. This time on plan. I lost 3.2 kgs in October which is 7 lbs.

Below goal....that is awesome!!! 7 pounds in a month is great, especially when you are so close to goal to begin with. If you haven't already, please check your private messages.

I keep forgetting that you guys celebrate Thanksgiving at a much better time (more of a distance before Christmas). :)
I DO plan on going to the Abbey this year for Thanksgiving. They have the best buffet in the entire universe. So that is a definite planned cheat. I know I shouldn't, but... it's one meal, right?

I've heard that about the Abbey. Is that in Lake Geneva?
|
Heather

Yeah we had a traditional thanksgiving meal on the Sunday and then did the Chinese buffet on the Monday of that long weekend. I didn't stay on plan but I think I did worse with the Bailey's than anything. Cream, sugar, alcohol and coffee. Oh my!
Buffet's are hopeless for me, well not completely hopeless but almost. I try to avoid them as I'd be setting myself up for trouble.
As long as you know what you're getting yourself into.... So, I say to the pie, "I really want you inside of me!" Resist the urge, yeah right.

Jeff, The Abbey is in Fontana, on Geneva Lake. The opposite side of the lake. I grew up in Lake Geneva. :) I loved it there.
They had a TON of beef, chicken, turkey, shrimp, and I think they also had oysters last year. YUM!!! They also make nice drinks. They have a ton of primo food, and it's always a pretty view if you sit next to the window. We got there when it first opened last year, at 11:00am. So it wasn't too busy. I think I did have one dessert.
http://theabbeyresort.com/about/thanksgivingweek.cfm
Oh, and they had a ton of cheese, too! :)
I talked to my mom, she does not want to go there, because of price (even though I told her we would pay for our own). Then I found out that my brother and his wife (she is a psycho) want my parents to go down to Chicago for Thanksgiving (only my parents). Hmph! Oh well.
Sorry, just realized i'm posting this in the

Chinese buffets here are pure evil. We have a casino (Potawatomi) that has a great seafood one, so it's a lot easier to eat on plan. Plus the desserts aren't very good so they are not tempting. :)
I just found out there is a piano bar in a nearby town. It's non-smoking! I've never been to one.

I think Potawatomi is one of the most fun words to say. You know, I was thinking the other day that the Abbey was in Fontana. Oh well, I was close.

Bring that pie (and whatever alcohol you are currently drinking) to the back of the Bus, and let's continue this "conversation", shall we?
