Pizza Stew

I love pizza, but can't eat cheese or I'd just make one with a ground meat crust. I came up with this after a trip to Costco with the BF, who decided to grab a slice and then asked me to hold it for him while he drove all the way home. I had to sit there and smell it...god, I wanted to kill him. Anyway, this took the edge off and now I keep some in freezer bags for pizza craving emergencies.

You cheese-eaters can add it, of course. Damn you all. You can mod this according to how you like your pizza. Measurements are generally instinctual Cool

Fry up an onion and garlic cloves in bacon grease. Remove from pan. Fry up a pound of ground beef and cut up italian sausages (however many) in more bacon grease. While you're doing this, crisp a bunch of pepperoni rounds under the broiler.

Throw the onions/garlic back in the pan with the meat, and add the pepperoni. Add any other pizza toppings you like (I add green and black olives). Dump a bottle or can of strained tomatoes (tomato puree) plus a small can of tomato paste in. Add seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic powder, italian seasoning, basil, crushed red pepper...whatever you like. Mix, heat, eat. Serves 2-4, depending on appetite.

This tastes enough like the essence of pizza with bacon, ground beef, pepperoni, sausage, onions and olives to get me over the "I want pizza" hump. Carbs are about 12g for just over 1 cup of this awesome slop. Freezes well, reheats well. I would have added actual bacon, but I was out (I save the grease for cooking).

(If I was doing cheese, I'd dump this mess in a casserole and put mozzarella on top, then broil it so it browned...but I try not to think about how gloppy and stretchy and good that would be)

Yes I dod something similar, like a pizza bake.

But I always use excessive cheese and regret it later! Confused

Damn cheese and it's addictiveness!
