Ramblings of a Northern GirlHi,
I have decided to finally start a journal here. Today is January 2, 2009 and I am committing to a zero carb WOE for all of January. I will eat fatty meat and water only - no eggs or dairy. Seasonings will be very limited.
Jan. 1 - I was sick and did not eat anything. I did have one cup of herbal decaf tea in the evening.
Jan. 2 - Beef short ribs, prime rib roast.
I can't wait to get the first week under my belt - I assume it will get easier with time. I am not having any cravings yet but I anticipate that I will be craving a salad in a couple of days.
During Christmas, the carbage crept back into my diet. Tastes good but makes me feel like crap. I look forward to feeling better in few days.

to Journaland, Val!
Don't worry. ZC gets easier and easier the more times you go for it!
Happy New Year, Val!

Hi! Take it easy on yourself and get as much rest as possible. that helped me with the fatigue and cravings.

Hi,
Day 3 - No appetite again today - the thought of eating fatty meat really turned me off. I managed to eat a small amount of leftover prime rib roast down just before noon and a couple of chicken skins in the afternoon. This evening I was hungry but did not want to eat. Finally I caved and had a bowl of left over cubed roast with half a tbsp on sf ketchup. I was able to get the roast down easily this way. I am disappointed that I had to add a half carb but I really wanted to stop being hungry. I do not plan to have sf ketchup as part of my WOE. I look forward to getting my appetite back.
Jessica - Thanks for the advice but no cravings of fatigue as of yet. I have been low carbing for quite a long time so I expect my adjust time will be short. I did have carbs during the holidays so I think I have confused my body completely.
Dean - Thanks for the reassurance. I like how there isn't pressure on this site to just eat meat and drink water. Thanks for making me feel at home!

Hi,
Day 4 - I definitely have induction flu. I did not want to eat today but I was hungry so I did. I hate feeling hunger and nausea at the some time. I stayed zero carb today which I am happy for. When I did KK I had nausea for two weeks at the beginning. I am hoping that this will pass soon.
Today was the last day of holidays for me - back to work tomorrow. The cold weather is supposed to break later this week, I am looking forward to 25 F. Tonight is supposed to get down to -40F again. Why do I live here?

That is a very cool thing about this site. Zero carb does consist of more than just meat and water and it's nice to have a place to post without being jumped on.

Hahahah oh I don't know, I kinda miss having a finger shaken under my nose and being told, "I'm just making things harder on myself. I just need to hunker down." lol! NOT!
Val you are doing so well. I am sorry about your induction flu. :hugs: Hope it ends soon. I don't have any practical advice on how to make it better. I haven't had that yet. I suspect it's cuz my liver is pretty dang efficient at gluconeogensis and is still supplying plenty of glucose for me. :( Not good.
Anyway, hang in there!!!

Hi,
Thanks for the hugs Pooti! Here is a finger wag for old times sake:
Tonight I am finally feeling a little better. I had the real flu on Jan. 1 and today when I talked to some other people, they said there is a flu going around that is bad for two days (Yep, that was me ) and then lingers for about a week (Yep, that is me ). So now I do not know if I have Induction flu or not. I guess it does not matter - sooner or later it will pass completely.
My clothes are getting looser (they had gotten a bit tighter over the last while so I am not further ahead than I was before but I think I am getting close). I have not weighed, maybe I will weigh on Saturday to get an idea of where I am. I noticed this morning that my face felt really soft - that is a plus! My nails are nice and hard too, it is amazing how fast you can notice the changes on ZC.
I had chicken thighs for lunch today and pork ribs for dinner. I ate quite a bit of ribs so I think my appetite is returning. Tomorrow I am BBQing some steaks. I don't care if the forecast is -10F and snow, I want to grill some meat!

Right on, Val!
Keep on keepin' on! You are doin' fantastic!
It keeps getting better and better. One of these days you are gonna wake up and go WOW! Trust me, it will happen. It's all worth it. Just keep doin' high animal fat, and you'll see.

Val isn't it amazing how fast you see body changes on zero?
I hope you feel better from the flu. You may not be suffering induction flu, you may actually have the "real" flu. Amazing how the symptoms of both are so very similar.
I count myself lucky, no induction flu at all. Don't know why but, I am so very thankful.
Unfortunately I have the "real" flu, cold, pneumonia? Drugging myself huge right now.

Val- Welcome to Journaland. I have no advice on induction flu, since I also never seem to have it, just like Pooti. In some ways it can be helpful, since you just don't feel like eating. ( at least I have heard )
I also think it is great that people here don't jump on you if you don't consume only meat and water. I would have been constantly in trouble...

Hi,
My appetite was better today but I was aching (symptom of the real flu I am trying to get rid of). My body feels really different - my tummy sides feel like they are tightening, like I have been doing sit-ups (which I haven't). I feel skinner even though I know I am still a bit away from where I was a couple of months ago before I played around with CTFLC. Is this my imagination or do these things really happen when you go ZC.
I grilled steaks on my grill tonight - I was cold but I didn't care. I am ready for the weather to break. I hate inside recess and we have had a lot of them lately. The kids usually go our 4 times a day but lately they are all cooped up inside. It does not look like they will be out again for the rest of this week. I think I am starting to understand why some mothers kill their young. (just kidding).

Hi,
Today I started day 8 so I weighed myself this morning to see what my progress is after a week. I lost ten pounds so far! Most of that was water due to my carb indulgence in December but I'll take it. I look forward to setting in to a 1 - 2 lb weight loss now.
I had a meeting today (lunch provided). I brought a container of sliced up steak. There were no microwaves their (lunch was brought in) so I just ate it cold. It was pretty good but it was not seasoned so I got sick of it fast. When I got home tonight I was hungry but did not want to eat. I cooked up some ground beef wit Cajun seasoning. It was exactly what I needed! That ground beef went down easy.

Val,
I have been eating turkey that I froze awhile ago. I had two 20 pound birds that I roasted with lots of nice seasoning rubbed on 'em. I saved all the drippings, of course, and am reheating this succulent meat in that fat. I cannot imagine how bland and boring it would taste if it did not have these wonderful herbs and spices on it.
I'm not sure why everyone is so "taste phobic" around here. Maybe we need to have a huge Kool-Aid party at the back of the Bus and see if we can get our taste buds hummin' again. Whaddya think?
Of course, we will have to get jeff to let Shawn out his basement for that to happen.

Miriam

Dean I think the taste phobic ones come from another forum where it was frowned upon to actually have any taste to your meat other than the one nature provided. No additions allowed.
Since I never bought into that scenario I have no taste phobias to resolve.
And boy am I glad!.

Woooohoooooo! Count me in as one of the people who escaped the taste-phobia train! I can tell you right now if Miriam hadn't encouraged me, I woulda had to quit by now. Yeah that's right I'm weak.
I believe that people are sposed to enjoy their food!

Yep. I love the spices, too. I especially like things spicy hot... Red Hot sauce or some green hot pepper sauce and some cumin.

Dean

Yah, I can attest to the fact that Heather does like it hot.
