Rocky Raw Egg ChallengeI am wanting to build muscle. I want to get in great shape. I need good sources of protein. Raw beef and raw eggs are at the top of that list!
So... this challenge is necessary for me.
Here's how it's gonna work.
I am gonna see how many raw eggs I can drink.
First thing in the morning, I'm gonna carefully crack eggs into a large glass. I am gonna be extra careful to not break the yolks... to not disturb these eggs in any way. Then, I'm gonna down the entire glass of this slime... yolks, whites and all. This is how Rocky did it, and that's how I'm gonna do it. I need the whites, cuz I need all that good protein!
So... today, first thing I had to "eat" were three large eggs from the country. These yolks are so firm and large and orange. And the whites are so thick. I just cracked three of these beauties into a large clear glass and then took it and drank it. I did not breathe while drinking. I did not want to taste anything... and this worked so that I did not taste a thing. The white part went down and then came a yolk. I made a point of swallowing the yolk completely whole.... it went down my throat, all the way to my stomach, still in solid form, undisturbed. Then came some more white, which I simply let slide down my throat like some sorta Jell-O. Then came another yolk, which I paused to swallow, like a huge pill or something...
These yolks were so large, that I really had to concentrate to swallow them whole. But, I did it... all three of them. It was some white jell, then large orange yolk, then more jell, then another yolk, etc. I am SO PROUD of myself for doing this! I did three, and don't know if I could do any more than that. I may try to do more some days. But, I am gonna at least do three every day, first thing I eat (swallow).
I really did not have any yucky taste in my mouth after this. But, I ate some spoonfuls of coconut custard just to make sure.
So... chalk up 3 raw eggs intact, down the hatch!
If ya wanna join this challenge... just do the same, and post how many eggs you do. Let's see who can rack up the largest number of raw eggs, as well as the largest number at one time. I think Rocky did 10 or 12 at once. Let's see if one of us can beat his record!

Well, I broke my own record! And set a new Bus record!
Today, I downed 4 raw eggs. And, BTW, these eggs are JUMBO eggs. These Brazilian chickens, eating all those bugs and stuff, lay HUGE eggs. I am also selecting the largest eggs from the ones I have. So, this would be equivalent to about 6 large eggs (half a dozen! ). But, I will just count it as 4 eggs down the hatch. This time, I was tasting the whites, but they don't have a lot of flavor. It was still hard swallowing each one of those 4 huge egg yolks whole. But, I did it. They hit my stomach intact!
So... I'm up to 7 whole raw eggs. And, I'm up to 2 days in a row doin' this!
Anybody else wanna get in on this Challenge? Remember, raw eggs are SO incredibly good for you. They are packed with so many nutrients, and have a great fat:protein ratio. I no longer take any supplements at all. These raw eggs are gonna be my daily supps!

I may do this once in a while, but not on a daily basis. Keep us posted, though.

I must admit, this is so disgusting that it's really hard to get up the nerve to do it ANY day!
I chickened out yesterday, and so far today.
It really is a "challenge" let me tell ya!

The yolks I can do just fine. But if I even get a little white mixed in, ewwwww!!!!
|
Dean
|
Come on... be a man! Just crack three eggs into a glass, and make sure the yolks are intact. Then just down the hatch, and swallow each yolk whole. You will feel like Rocky when you're through!
You might not ever wanna do it again... but, you'll feel like Rocky!
|
jeff
|
Hmmm....let met think about it.
|
Dean
|
That's the worst thing you can do... you should definitely NOT think about it. Just do it. The more you think about it, the more freaked out you will get about it. It's one of those things you have to just do quickly and get it over with. Sorta like pulling a tooth with plyers!

Ok ok, you say plugging your nose helps?

I'd try it with one egg, first. And try to let go of all your pre-conceived notions about texture.

AAAAAHHHRRRRRHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I DID IT!
I beat my record!
Tonight, after a very intense Resistance Workout, I broke 5 HUGE range free eggs into a large glass. I swallowed every humongous orange egg yolk totally intact, and drank all the thick white jell down with it. This was a huge amount of gunk! But, I just DID IT! Do or die, baby! I simply thought of the 5 reps that I was pumping out during my workout, and thought, "this is no different"... "I can swallow one egg yolk at a time... just like I did one rep at a time". It took the same level of concentration to swallow those huge egg yolks intact, but what the hey... I knew I could do it! And, so I did!
This aint for the faint of heart, let me tell ya. But, it's very doable. It beats popping post workout amino tabs! Screw it. I'm doin' it the natural, paleo way!
So, jeff... have ya got up the nerve to try this?
Once you do it, you will be able to do it again, no prob.
One thing I can testify to... once the eggs are in your belly, and you drink a bit of heavy cream to wash down the junk in your mouth, you don't even know they are there. They digest very easily. Go figure! Right afterwards, I ate a bunch of roasted turkey breast with a bit of Colby cheese and mayo, and it didn't even matter. My GI tract is just as quite as ever. Which is how it always is with no vegetation consumption.

Not yet, but I'll give it a go one of these days.

| jeff wrote: | | Ok, I did one whole raw egg last night! It really was not bad at all. I plugged my nose like Dean suggested, although I'm not sure how necessary that really is. I just swallowed the whole thing down in one gulp. |
So, jeff is now officially in the club!
Go for two or three next time... and try to beat my record some day. If you have the chance to get farm fresh eggs, then you will really be doin' it! Those eggs have such thick jell-like whites and huge orange yolks. I swear, the 5 I did were probably equivalent to 8 regular store bought eggs.
Congrats on your one raw egg!
I knew you could do it. And, no, you really don't need to plug your nose or anything. There really is no taste to speak of. It's just getting over the psychological issues. But, this is like eating raw beef or pork... SO many incredibly good nutrients. And, if you swallow the yolks down undisturbed, they have all the nutrients undisturbed. Gotta be SO good for us!

I do have access to these eggs. My wife works with a woman that she gets them from. Yes, these yolks are huge and a deep, dark orange. The shells come in all kinds of colors....some are white, others are a pale blue, but most are brown, but all different shades of brown. It can be quite colorful to open the carton and see all these different colored eggs.

I also have access to some farm raised eggs, and yeah, there is no comparison to the store bought stuff. I just don't think I can eat them raw.
Is that acculturation?

I swallow raw yolks all the time, but the whites I avoid, partially because I prefer to eat my food and not drink it and partially because of the supposed anti-nutrients in the raw white.

I don't think it's something I'll make a habbit of. Raw yolks maybe....but not the whites.

Ditto on that! I have 8 dozen in my fridge that are just like what you describe. That's cool that you have these. The whites are much thicker, aren't they?

While egg whites contain the glycoprotein avidin that is very effective at binding the B vitamin biotin, egg yolks have one of the highest concentrations of biotin found in nature. So, it's no big deal to eat the whole egg. Cooking denatures avidin... but, egg yolks have so much biotin that it makes no difference if you eat the entire egg cooked or raw. You get more biotin from the egg yolk than the avidin in the egg white will bind to, so you end up getting some. As usual, mother nature knew what she was doing. Although you denature avidin by cooking, you also destroy some of the B vitamins. So, you're back to square one. If you eat the whites, you will get more protein... that's why I am doing this... to up my protein.

jeff, you can't back out on me now, buddy! You need to go for SIX... beat my record!

I do raw yolks from time to time. I can gulp down up to 8 yolks.
I don't think I could ever gulp down a raw egg. The raw whites remind me of snot.

That's what I thought too, but if you do the whole thing all at once, it really isn't bad.

I think what is grose, is that smilie picture vomiting!
Eewwwww somebody get some Windex!

This morning I had 3 whole raw eggs with some heavy cream and a bit of cinnamon. Does that count?
|
Dean
|
You know, I was gonna get some heavy cream and try that. I was gonna use nutmeg, a little cinnamon, and some real vanilla extract... make eggnog, basically. I also heard Vince Gironda used to recommend doing raw eggs with cream. I think I'll throw some raw eggs in a blender with some heavy cream and see if it tastes OK with the whites. That would be a good PWO meal... half a dozen eggs blended up with heavy cream, nutmeg, etc... PWO eggnog!
|
jeff
|
Yes, that would be an incredibly nutritious PWO meal.
|
Dean
|
Yah, I'm gonna go get some coconut milk and some heavy cream tonight! Gonna make some great PWO meals in my blender! Got lots of eggs to use up. Wanna eat most of 'em raw! Gonna need the good nutrients and protein to grow muscle!
|
Dean
|
Well, for a PWO meal, I took six eggs and some heavy cream, threw in some nutmeg, cinnamon, and real vanilla extract... blended the livin' crap outta this... and had EGGNOG!
In the past, I would just use the egg yolks. This time I used the entire egg, to get the protein.
|
jeff
|
I thought it was decided a while back that blending the livin' crap outta eggs would damage the protein. Did you decide that it might not be such a bad thing?
|
Dean

I'm sure it disturbs the proteins in some way. But, not like the denaturing that heat will do. Just how much, who knows.
I still think the BEST way to consume eggs is the "Rocky way". But, I'm sure there are tons of benefits to consuming them the "Vince Gironda way", as well.

I agree.....I was just curious.

For my PWO meal/lunch today I had 6 raw eggs, some cream(I didn't measure), a splash of vanilla, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. I put it all in a martini shaker with a couple of ice cubes to get it nice and cold and shook the hell out of it. Very yummy and oh so nutritious!

jeff, if you use lots of nutmeg, it will taste like eggnog. I love this stuff, but am a bit concerned about all that dairy. I wish I lived in Wisconsin, then I could consume all the dairy I wanted... and it would all be tax deductible!

I actually used very little cream....well, what I would consider very little. I did not measure, but it was no more than half a cup. (that's eggs and cream in those mugs!)

When I used to live in Mexico City, I loved drinking "Licuados"
They're sold everywhere, from street vendors to taco joints....some places specialize in nothing elses but licuados!
Basically it's a smoothie.....Milk, fruits, raw egg or two, cinnamon and vanilla extract...throw in the blender....done
Nowadays I use cream instead of milk.
The best fruits to use IMO are berries. Bannana is good too. You can also ditch the fruit and just use eggs. I usually use stevia for sweetness.

I sometimes make a drink very similar to this, except I use heavy whipping cream instead of milk, and skip the fruit. Yummy! It is basically egg nog.
