Triglycerides higher than expected. Can't figure it out.

I have been eating vlc since Jan 2008. In October I went meat, eggs and water with an occasional, maybe once a week, drink of heavy cream, club soda and a shot of DaVinci Sugar Free Chocolate syrup. By the end of October I dropped all AS and dairy and eggs. I had a lipid profile done and my triglycerides were 126. I was really expecting them to be much lower like under 80.  Any ideas as to why they would be so high?

Hey, Deb,

Was wondering, what are your other numbers, like HDL and such? Also, how much do you exercise and how much body fat do you have to lose? My best TG number was when I was eating rather lean meat and veggies, years ago. I haven't had a lipid profile done in some time, and I'm not too sure I want to. Not sure how much that really tells. I might do one just for the heck of it sometime to find out.

Deb, it's my understanding that if you're actively losing weight, your tri's might be a bit high.  126 is a good number, but you're right......ZC'ers usually have tri's under 100.  If your HDL is high, you're fine though.

Thanks Jeff.
I am losing about 2 pounds a month. I am still probably 15 to 20 above a good weight and still need to lose 3 inches off my waist. I don't do any formal exercise yet. If I was not at work 10 hours a day 5 days a week I think I might have the energy to start lifting weights. I used to lift but haven't for about 5 years. I know those are just lame excuses.

The rest of my lipid profile:
HDL- 72
Trig- 126
LDL - 364
Tot - 461

I really should have asked the dr. to get the VAP done.  But I don't intend to take a cholesterol lowering drug anyway so why do it?

Yes, if it were me, I'd be curious.  But it could very well be that your high LDL may be just fine.  People with low tri's and high HDL tend to have the large, fluffy LDL, which is harmless.  I wouldn't be overly concerned.
Deb

Thanks for the reassurance Jeff.
