What I like about you

What I like about you all...I will never log in and see such topics as You MUST eat your vegetables...and  Eat your Vegetables...NO DISCUSSION. (This on a discussion board, mind you.)  It's nice to be with folks who don't lecture.

My name is Mairi and I'm a Woman of a Certain Age. I came here, like a few others, reading about Jeff's fat experiment and liked the atmosphere of the place. Allowed to swear, but no juvenile abuse of the privilege. Just generally a fun place to be.

I currently weigh too much, I want to weigh less and my scale is currently imprisoned in the closet, without batteries. I did convince myself last week that it wasn't breaking my vow of weighing one a month if I used the mechanical one. There you see, I'm a creature of logic.

Thanks for starting up the bus and letting me ride. I'll be back here in the back if anyone needs me.

Happy to have you onboard.

Mairi has already learned where the best place on the Bus is.  LOL   Welcome aboard.  Glad to have you.  You've made some good observations.  You'll get lots of differing opinions here, but never a lecture.  And lots of fun. Devil

Chainey, it's ANIMAL FAT! And, yes, you need to eat some everyday... preferably raw! Wink

Welcome Glad you could join all of us! Cool

LOL
I love this place too. It's the first place I log into in the morning and the last place I log out of at night. <sigh>

First off, thank everyone for the kind welcome. Makes me feel right at home. As for that little fat lecture...my thoughtful, reasoned response is...I agree!

I'm thinking of doing Tina's challenge, I have four pounds of fat trimmings in my freezer and I'm NOT afraid to use them! Take one of the pitiful steaks they sell nowadays, with barely a whisper of of fat on 'em and throw in two or three ounces fat, and fry it all up. Yum.

Now, if I could I find a source of pork belly...I asked in Walmart..they handed me a pork stomach. Pretty sure not the same....

Anyhow, that mad me laugh out loud for real.

Thank you all again. You're great.

Any Asian markets near you?
Cherrycat

I'm not sure. I'm pretty reliant on the bus system around here. I'll check around. I really want some of that pretty pork belly. Though I did read it was also called side pork. I can ask a Food Lion, their butcher is surprisingly cooperative.
Dean

Do you have any meat processors near you?
Cherrycat

Tyson has a plant. But that's not likely to help. Only thing I know of. The Quest for Pork Belly continues.
Dean

You can do searches with Internet directories for meat processors, using your zipcode. You'd be surprised how many may be near by. Good luck, and keep us posted. I just Heart pork belly!

Be sure to check out Red's recipe in the Prey Section: http://magicbus.myfreeforum.org/about623.html Yup

Here's an Internet directory you could try: http://yp.mapquest.com/

Just put in "meat processors" and your zip.

welcome, you're grocery store is a good bet as long as it's not a walmart (they get their meat prepackaged). it is surprising how much grocery store meat cutters throw out. i pull some of the wads of fat off chickens before i cook them and render them. you'd be surprised how much fat they produce and it is so good. then i get to eat the little crispy pieces that are left.
Cherrycat

Jem, Yah making me hungry with that. Yeah, the nice young man at Food Lion got me 5 pounds of pork trimmings at 99 cent a pound. I'm going to call next week to ask him to set aside ribeye trim. They already do carry stuff like sliced hog jowl. Wouldn't be surprised if they couldn't come up with some pork belly.

Thanks for the suggestions and links, Dean!

Welcome Mairi!

I know, I'm a bit late, but I've been away!

Great to have you here!

BTW, I love 'Cherrycat' (such a cool name!  Cool )
Cherrycat

Aww, thanks. And glad you're back from wherever you were. I love your avatar, I noticed it reading through the forums. Thought it was a clever play on ketone bodies.
Billi-Jean

Thanks back at cha! -nothing like a bit of mutual admiration, eh?  LOL

I was down and out for quite a while undergoing some major detal stuff that never seemed to end  Sad  but all is well now -it's so good to be back! Happy

Hi CherryCat!

I like your scale logic.  Mechanical scales are more fun because they are inclined to let you "lean & weigh", or as I like to think of it, "adjust for inflation."
