Women & HormonesI'm nearly 54 and unfortunately, still in reproductive mode..
I've been ZCing for nearly 30 days and I've had an interesting thing happen.
I had absolutely no symptoms of my upcoming TOM.
I was diagnosed with PMDD a few years ago and interestingly,
there are no more symptoms.
I figured out why I had the candy bar this week...
Cravings.
So I still have a craving here and there, but for the most part,
my hormones seem to be balancing out and I have no more women issues.
Now if the reproductive mode would just cease....

Lynne,
Do you think this has something to do with getting insulin (a master hormone) under control?

Hey LynneLynne, interesting you should bring that up. Most of my life I have had very sporadic cycles. At one point I had no cycle for almost 10 years. But when I did it was horrid, and I hemmoraged twice. Since going VLC I have normal cycles for the first time in my life, with little or no discomfort.
We must be doing something right!

Y0u, i'm sleeping better than i was 3 yrs ago.. i had peri menapause insomnia, anxiety, boob swelling, clumsiness, needed lots of naps, and bled horribly...
i've been doing ZC for about 1.5 yrs now and my menstrual cycle has completely changed..
i had no idea it was starting, this morning. surprise!!!!
that has NEVER happened before.
and that candy bar i ate, ripped up my stomach.
Dean, i do believe everything revolves around insulin now..
ask me that two months ago and i would have looked at you funny.
but now, i'm finding that a lot of my body cycle thingys are changing..
appetite,
hormones,
a calmness that has come over me
sleeping better
thinking better
and i have a desire to kick one of my bad habits..

I'm 38 and since I started getting closer & closer to ZC i've lost my cycles. Well, I feel crabby and tired one week a month, but that is it. It's kind of annoying. I hope that things come back eventually. :(
|
y0u
|
hmmm.Jessica, that's odd. I hope it gets back to normal for you. I never get crabby from cycles, actually the opposite happens and I want to go clean all my friends houses and make them dinner..yah...I know...I am a freak!
Lynne, that is great. Remember how I was not sleeping for days and days on end? That has been getting way way better the lower carb I go. And with the less alcohol I drink, which these days is almost none. Not that I don't love it, because I do. It's just not very conducive to weight loss.

i have a miserable headache.
in fact, i've had more headaches since starting ZC than i've ever had in my life..
would any of you have an idea of what could be causing them?
i am NOT dehydrated as i drink a lot of water, all day long.
could i possibly be losing electrolytes?
anyone?
help.

Lynne, I had a hard time sleeping last night for the longest time in awhile, it was because I had a headache. And I almost NEVER get headaches. I wonder why? I too am drinking a ton of water lately. I haven't drilled any holes in my head lately. But maybe I should?
I suppose you could try the electrolite thing? Or maybe it is taking your body a week to get the toxins out from the candy bar? Hope it goes away soon, if not..you can borrow my drill.

you have a PM, Y0u

i did too, but it wasn't a headache, it was too much energy. had to take a trazodone.
but i've got another nasty headache.
last one was Thursday.

Could it be too much protein? Not enough fat?
I have gotten some of those headaches as well. They aren't very severe, though. Of course, I've been trying hard to eat as much animal fat as possible.
Do you guys notice that ammonia smell when you have these headaches?
|
Cody
|
I can't sleep when I've had too much protein, either. I'm super alert well into the wee hours of the night.

I was having the ammonia pee thing happening, and I inadvertently ate less protein for a few days and it went away. So I don't know if it was related to the headache or not.

"herb."
i've always had the ammonia thing going because i've always eaten high protein..
i'll try to up my fat and see if that makes a difference.
i ate a lot yesterday, too...
i ate tons of protein, and drank bone broth.
my meat just doesn't have enough fat.
i guess i'll pull some of the fat out of the freezer and cook it up with meat, next time, right?
thanks for your comments.
cody, get your hands off my spanx!!

You know Lynne, you're a beautiful woman, talented, and obviously very smart, it would be a shame not to pass on more of those great genes of yours. I say you take advantage of your good fortune and come visit me up in here Iowa! It would be the best five minutes of your life, I promise!

Lynne, having grown up in Iowa myself, I say take him up on it!! Nothin like a young farm boy for a good roll in the hay.
Ahhhh...reminds me of when all the young men would come to town for summer wrestling camp...

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!
some people get a zit the size of an eyeball in the middle of their nose..
some people get a canker sore.

Lynne, I think I am very happy that I am 62 and don't go through that anymore.
Wish I had some advice but I don't except: Just hang in hon.

Hey Miriam!!
You're my age! I don't know how many of us "oldsters" are here. We should take an anonymous survey to see the stats.
|
Lynne
|
hey bobi, i think everyone has been posting their age in the "age" thread....
Miriam... it's not that bad. symptoms are hardly there except for the need to have sugar just before the Day......
that has been my downfall on this whole friggen journey..
i don't munch, cheat, or feel the need to eat anything but my program...
until TOM comes... and then it's all blown to hell in a handbasket with sugar!!!!
|
Cody

62 isn't old!
Come back when you're 90, and maybe I'll listen to that.
Lynne, as a man, I can't even begin to comprehend the unpleasantness of the monthly thing, but you have my sympathy. And I'm not just saying that because I think you are a foxy lady.
What about some sugar free chocolates on that one day? Or maybe a nice full body message from yours truly?

Yeah, I am two days older than you. Anybody older?

Lynne

I started ZCing consistently in Dec.
This is March.
I'm waiting on TOM and I have to say that i'm not having any pre-menstrual symptoms..
I used to get anxiety, the boo-hoo's (BIG TIME), clumsiness, insomnia, bloating, severe headache (1 that lasts 2 days)...
**in my first post on this thread, i mentioned cravings..
my TOM is due this week and so far, no cravings.. (it would be a miracle if i've gotten a handle with this one monkey on my back)
seriously, i do believe that this WOE has really smoothed out my hormone levels.. why oh why doesn't society embrace this WOE?
Women would embrace having no PMS symptoms...
but they're not changing their diet...
|
Dean
|
Yah, Lynne, the hormone hell that most people deal with causes untold misery that could so easily be resolved by simply going back to our original diet.
I'm really glad this WOE is helping you!

muchas gracias, dean. :D

When I was 38, I stopped having periods for a year...then I had a doozy one! I thought I was in early menopause!!!! I later was diagnosed with a tumor, at age 40.
The tumor is named Heather and she is going to be 22 in June!!!
