Hey, Well I use to run in high school but that was back when I was stupid and didnt eat any fat and ate mostly carbs, but I haven't tried much running on low carb but would like to not for long maybe 30-45 minutes, does anyone have any advice, do you think injesting a bit of fat before a run would give me the energy, I tend to wear out easier (note I do weight like 20lbs more than when I was a avid runner) but I'd like to do it again since Ive quit smoking almost completely (I started a year ago and have tapered off), any advice would be totally appreciated!

Hey, Amanda,

Yah, I used to run in junior high and high school. Cross country during the Fall and quarter-mile (400 m) for Track, during the Spring. Loved it.

Have you heard of HIIT? High Intensity Interval Training. Basically, you really get your heart rate up for a period of time, then go slow for another length of time. You can do like 2 minutes of intensity (fast), followed by 1 minute of recovery (slow). Repeat this for 20 or 30 minutes. It'll make you feel great. Yup

Then, there's always coyote running, which is really mixing things up. See the Tribal Games forum for more about that. Cool

Yeah I think I did that once. Wink Jeff? Rich?

I personally don't eat (or drink) anything at least 2 hours before running because I don't like stopping... I do carry water with me to sip while I run.

How often do you run now and for how long/distance?

Yes ma'am.  I'm here.  Wink

I do some running, and so does Rich.  I'd actually suggest not eating anything at all before running, you'll actually have more energy that way.  Once your body is adapted to burning fat and ketones, that is.

Eating anything other than pure fat will provoke some insulin release.  Insulin will inhibit the release of stored fat for energy.....which is what you want to be using.  I suppose you could use some kind of pure fat....such as butter or coconut oil, but I really think it's best just to use you own bodyfat.  That's what it's there for!

I save my running for times I am chased by a bear or a Mountain Lion.

I was awesome in high school as a sprinter. Tried cross country in college and it just about killed me (and I was used to walking a lot, and doing the stairclimber between 1/2 - 1 hour a day at the time).  Wow

I run occasionally, usually only when the "walk" light on the crosswalk turns to "don't walk" and I have to run with my arms crossed in front of my breasts, much to my husband's humor.  Blush

Indeed. I only run when I'm being chased by someone/something  Yup  I did enough running as a running back in high school and prefer biking now.

I think that certain body types are built a lot more for running (Ectomorphs and some Mesomorphs) . Endomorphs just tend to look awkward when running sprints or long distances - they seem to be the ones who suffer ankle and knee problems because of it.
