10 points for the last two days.

Raw egg yolks, fatty pork steak with butter and hot sauce (that is good Yup ), soft boiled eggs with butter (really love this), butter, and butter.

Have not been eating more than once or twice a day.

jeff, why don't you just stop all java and booze for 30 straight days and then report how you feel each day. Withdrawals are a bitch, man. How can you deny that? Wait till May 1, so you can get all 5 points in the May Contest, by just drinking water each day. Be honest and let us know how you feel. Ask BJ how she feels this week. LOL It aint pretty. Those toxic treats are real mood altering substances. Sorta like donuts. Wink

Anyway, I'm hoping I'll be better off without 'em. At least I'm gonna give it my best try. I've heard that one before, though. Roll Eyes So, I aint gonna bet too much on it. My only point is, I don't think it's good to proclaim how "good" one feels on a certain WOE, while others may be having problems with adjusting to it, and the person who "feels good" may be feeling that way cuz of certain toxic treats that the other one is not getting. Then we say that it's the WOE that is causing us to feel so good, and the other person must be doing something wrong or something. That was my only point. Let's level the playing field before we make those assumptions. I'm absolutely positive that if I started drinkin' the java again, I'd feel fabulous, and if I added in some wine, even more fabulous.

I'm not feeling bad or anything, but just not as "energetic" as I did when drinking coffee. Like Mina said about bouncing off the walls. I can get a real pep feeling from it. Without it, well, like I said, withdrawals are a bitch. Sad

10 points for yesterday and today -steak, eggs, butter, chicken and WATER! Sad

Dean, all I can say is  There You're way stronger than me, I can tell you that much! I'm trying to adopt your attitude and be positive, but... Sad
I've been depressed all damn day!
Had a dentist appointment today too, so that didn't help...they wanted to take all these photos coz they're using my work for dental seminars or something and boy, was it hard to muster up the smiles!
When will it end?! Cry

On a positive note...in the last few weeks, the weird skin condition on my right hand that has been plaguing me for the last 2 years (really painful flair-ups, splitting, bleeding, lumpy skin and general grossness) has COMPLETELY disappeared!!
It has always calmed down each time I've gone zero carb but it never completely went away before. Cool

Only 2 points for me yesterday - I had cream, which I'd planned to do, but had a diet soda when I was out and about, which tasted pretty crap.

What surprised me was that I had one more because of "social pressure" than because I wanted one. Was holding a casting session with a friend (we're doing a play this summer in a festival) and went to a cafe after - I felt like I had to order something. I should have just ordered tea, I don't know why I didn't.

Then I ended up buying cheese and eating half of it. My stomach felt off - too much cream, I think - and the cheese didn't help. I felt spacey and very relaxed after, so I definitely see the opiate reaction happening, at least to me. Never mind the obvious addiction factor :) It's been really difficult for me to give up since I added it back.

Good luck with the coffee, guys :)

Which is why I'm going caffiene free, probably starting May 1.  I really don't think withdrawals will be a big deal for me.  I have had days occasionally where I did not have any coffee, and I did not get headaches or anything.  Maybe it takes more than one day?  We'll see.

5 points for me! Yay! Had some marrow, horsemeat and ...butter. I really don't like marrow so for now, butter, it is. At least, until I can find a better source of fat...that I enjoy eating!

4 points for me yesterday - no dairy woot!  I'm starting to get the hang of no dairy, a bit at a time.  I'm really going for it for the next week for my costume party - I have to get into a catwoman suit and look at least vaguely hot in the process.  Usually when I manage no dairy for a couple of days I drop weight - water probably but who cares. Yup

I have found a way of getting over my aversion to the mess created by trying to slice bits off a brick of tallow;  I get the whole block and cut it up all at once into cubes/small pieces (I let it warm up a bit at room temperature first as it is quite hard refrigerated).  Then I store the bits in a big tub and fish them out for cooking.  No cutting and no mess every time I want fat.  The tallow is my only alternative here to butter - the non-h'd lard tastes disgusting and  the butcher never keeps the trimmings for me (bah).  The tallow I buy comes in a big block and is not modified or anything - it just says 100% grasa animal natural  - is this ok to use?  I believe tallow comes from suet is that right?  I like it because it doesn't taste of anything at all.

I'm planning on doing only tallow and egg yolks for the next week fats wise in addition to more fish/sardines as I lose well on these.  I have a load of really fatty bones too to make some broth to replace my morning tea with cream.  I definitely need fat first thing in the morning.

Ooh that was long.

Dean that is great news regarding the dairy.  The more I read about people's experiences with it the more it seems some people have problems with it.

Hey Dean and everyone else struggling with caffeine withdrawal -

if I can give up dairy (which I have been trying to do for 2 years now Wow ) - then you can all do it (give up coffee etc).  Does drinking like half caff and half decaf help?  I know people have weened themselves off of it this way.

I'm a bit behind - I won't be cutting out coffee until I've gotten off dairy.

Also, you could try having something like yerba mate in the interim which, although it contains caffeine (mateine) I don't find it quite as addictive as coffee.

Green tea might also help.  These are just suggestions for if you can't go the whole abrupt hog. Wink

when I drink my coffee I usually put ice in it.. so 20oz ends up being like 16 oz anyways. im going to up that water or ice amount until it gets too watery and then ill make part decaf.

cant do it today though, still fighting a migraine and coffee is all I can use because I dont take meds of any kind. the headache stuff went away yesterday afternoon but then I got an overwhelming nausea.. and I had insomnia. I got really good sleep (when I finally fell asleep) but the headache is back this morning. I hate migraines, they make me want to  Cry  everyone knows princesses dont  Cry   LOL

thanks for the suggestion  Heart

With caffeine withdrawal symptoms. Yah, they have come and gone, but the first few days of no java was a mother. I had a constant severe headache for two days, followed by more minor ones for a week after. Then they'd sorta come and go for the next week. I am feeling much better now, but, I think it takes some time before everything evens out from the constant use of that type of addictive substance. I'm determined to get totally free of this drug. I know that anything that is gonna give me those types of symptoms when I go off it can't be good for me.

On the diary thing. I think it's the proteins. The butter has not been affecting me like the cream and cheese were. I've been eating lots and lots of butter. I am thinking of going off of it starting May 1, just to be totally dairy free. Since I have felt like I needed more "energy", to counteract the caffeine withdrawals, I have been eating tons of butter. Thing is, I've been eating very little else. Still, my calories have been pretty high. However...

4.9289 kg body fat loss since February 1. Cool That's about one pound per week on average. Not bad for all the fat calories I've been doing. The most steady loss has been as I got rid of things like processed meats, cheese, then cream, and I'd expect it to get even better getting rid of butter. Of course, that all may be cuz the total daily calories have been going down, as I give up these calorically dense foods.

One thing I've noticed, though, is how much my GI tract has gotten dead silent. Completely. The more I have given up things like cream and coffee and processed meats, I have felt better and better. The "energy" issue, I believe, will resolve itself, the longer I stay clear of the java. But, yah, the bloating is totally gone and the fat roll has gone way down. When I stand up, my abs are totally flat, and when I'm sitting down, it is getting harder and harder to be able to pinch any excess fat around my belly. It's wonderful. Exercise will surely do the rest in shaping some hard abs. So, I am very glad to be off the dairy and the java. I think it's really worth it. Yup

jeff, in the name of science, please continue consuming everything like you normally do, then for the entire month of May, commit to only water. Just do it and report how you feel. You may get a sense of how hard things are for people like Dave and Jaime and others who don't have these crutches. If you experience no effects whatsoever, then, I think we can safely put to rest the fact that you really aren't human. LOL

Dairy today, but no veg/nut/oil, so 4 points. And I am forced to admit that dairy makes me really stupid. I definitely get an opiate reaction if I use too much. I'm spaced, couch-locked, and forgetful. Noticed I screwed up my words frequently as well. Plus, I get gassy. Loops, I'll be in this dairy-free boat with you. Keeping butter though - it doesn't seem to have an effect at all.

Recipe alert - I found something wonderful to do with leftover egg whites. I chug yolks, but don't care for raw whites at all. I whip them up with onion and garlic powder and salt, til stiff, then pan fry globs of it in butter til golden brown and slightly flattened. Holy fricken shizz, they're good - and buttery! Nice finger food.

Dean, too bad you haven't been tracking calories.  Any idea where they've been, on average, for the past couple of months?

I don't know.  I'm really not in the mood for something like that.  I'm willing to switch to decaf for the month.

yeah Tracy that sounds really good.

Ok guys, today I've been off no veg products - I ate almonds, some yoghurt (a little bit) and broccoli.  Also tons of butter, fish, tallow and eggs.   I feel really good.  I'm just experimenting right now.  I'm still under 20g carbs though so I guess I get a few points (I had saccharin as well).  Is that one point - wait - have to go check.

Yeah one point for me today.  Good going everybody.

5 points. What else? Roll Eyes Raw egg yolk. Pork steak with butter and hot sauce. Soft boiled eggs with butter. Butter.

Seems the more animal fat I eat the more I am losing. I'm sure that my average calories have been around 3500 on average for the last 11 weeks. Yet, I've dropped one pound per week on average. My animal fat has been so high, especially recently. I've been goin' through about a half pound of butter per day easy. You can't gain any weight on this WOE, no matter how much fat you eat. In fact, it appears if you keep animal fat at around 80+% you will actually slowly lose body fat. Cool

jeff, in the name of science, please continue consuming everything like you normally do, then for the entire month of May, commit to only water. Just do it and report how you feel. You may get a sense of how hard things are for people like Dave and Jaime and others who don't have these crutches. If you experience no effects whatsoever, then, I think we can safely put to rest the fact that you really aren't human. LOL

I don't know.  I'm really not in the mood for something like that.  I'm willing to switch to decaf for the month.

LOL If you are willing to switch to decaf, why can't you just drink water? Confused Will this mess with your moods, jeff? Wink  Yup You can handle it... all in the name of science. LOL Like I said, it's a bitch! LOL

Dean, sounds like you are changing your mind about needing to restrict calories in order to lose weight.  Bear said that on zero carb, a man would get to 11-15% bodyfat, without restricting calories.  Looks like Bear may have been right again. Wink

Hey Dean that is amazing!  I have some quick questions for you.  Were you eating that much butter before when you were still eating cream/cheese?

Also, did you have any obvious allergic reactions to other types of dairy (like acne, wheezing, runny nose etc)?

How much protein roughly would you say you are taking in - is it much more than 1g/kilo bodyweight?

Sorry for all the questions, as you can see I'm dairy obsessed right now Bonkers

Well I don't feel very much different to normal this morning.  I didn't eat enough protein yesterday though  - I got to dinner and just wasn't hungry at all, even after nuts and broccoli and yoghurt.  I think butter is a good appetite suppressant, even with those items on the list.

I was not eating as much butter, but I was still eating some. I was doing lots of cream, and I do mean lots of it. Back when I did cheese, in February, I was also doing a lot of that, too. My calories were probably around 4,000 a day during February, and near that during March. Now, they are still near 3,000 a day. I have been totally sedentary during the last two and a half months, yet, with all those excess calories, I have been losing. I've been losing faster the more dairy I cut out. That may be cuz of the calories, but, the casein from dairy may also have a lot to do with it. I felt like I was bloated to the max during February and March, but, during April, I have felt like a deflated balloon.

BTW, I checked this morning and the loss continues.

5.1251 kg body fat loss since February 1. And, my waist is getting smaller. Yup

Loops wrote:

Yes, I did. My sinuses were much worse the more dairy I did. Now they are very clear. The irony is, the further we go toward Spring, the worse my sinuses always get, so this is great news.

Loops wrote:

I have been eating so much butter just to keep the fat ratio way up there. I don't know exactly how much protein I've been eating, but it must be fairly low, since I eat just a small piece of fatty meat, and then eggs and butter. I have been goin' through about a half pound a day of butter, so my ratios would get closer to 90% animal fat. After dumping coffee and cream, my carbs have also come down in April, to very close to zero. I'm starting to notice improvements in energy levels. I think besides the caffeine withdrawals, I have also been going through dairy withdrawals. That probably explains the headaches and lack of energy nearly as much as the caffeine withdrawals.

Loops, if you wanna get off the dairy, check the updated May Contest. I think many of us are struggling with this issue. It can't hurt to try to remove the dairy to see what results we will get. I'm very pleased with the results I've had already. Cool

I think that restricting calories will help you lose faster, up to a point. If you restrict them too much, you may slow down metabolism. I think, because of the metabolic advantage of zero carb, perhaps one can eat excess animal fat calories and still lose, because of futile cycles and increased metabolism. Thing is, if one ate pure fat for awhile, perhaps they would lose even faster, cuz all the futile cycling would kick up the metabolism, and, hence, the rate of body fat loss.

Dunno

Should I do a 5,000 Calorie A Day 100% Animal Fat Experiment and see? Wink

Maybe I'll get as "famous" as you. LOL

Go for it! LOL

From what you've experienced in the past few months we'd have to say that you can lose while eating more calories that you need.  Unless......is it possible that all the futile cycles and whatnot actually use up more energy that what the food actually contains?  In a sense, this would create a calorie deficit, but not in the traditional sense.  Any thoughts?

I think there may be some kick to metabolism with all the extra heat that is created, but, who knows. I was just checking the last few posts of the February Contest, and it shows that I did not lose much at all during February. Was this cuz of casein or cuz of calories? Was it water retention or what? All I know, is during April, I have been eating boat loads of butter, and I have noticed the fat roll is getting smaller, and I can fit into smaller jeans, and my waist measurements are smaller, so the loss is not just water.

So, if I wanted to really do a good Experiment, I suppose I'd have to do straight tallow and/or lard, since I'd wanna focus on real animal fat, and entirely eliminate any diary factor. Or, I could just eat like 6 sticks (1.5 lbs) of butter every day. LOL

Thoughts?

You did not lose much in Feb., but isn't it amazing that you lost anything at all, considering you were eating at least an extra 1000 calories per day?

Hi,

I am out of town at a seminar and can finally catch up!

Wednesday - 2 points
Thursday - 2 points
Friday - 4 points - did everything but raw!
Saturday - 4 points - omelet (the ham in the omelet cost me a point!) chicken breast and butter, 9 different kinds of raw fish for supper!  YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY!  I am on the west coast and the sashimi here is awesome.  The octopus was good but the ahi was by far my favourite.

Dean, I vote for a total animal fat experiment!

Dairy is confusing. In Feb I was eating tons of it, and lost a pound - but I had skin problems and some bloating/gas. Eating smaller amounts, I seem to get opiate reactions. I have no idea what's what with dairy anymore, except that for some of us it's fine, for some it's ok in small doses, and for some it totally sucks overall.

If it was just a butter fast, I could probably hang with that. But, tallow and lard, or raw animal fat, not sure I could get that many calories of that stuff in.

I'm not sure how to do a 100% animal fat experiment. Drinking cups of warm tallow all day long might be sorta disgusting. Shock

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?
Maybe a clotted cream contest! Idea

LOL

5.4293 kg body fat loss since February 1. Grin

And the loss continues. Even though the butter and other animal fat stays high. Cool

And it's not exercise, cuz I've been gettin' nada.

Those who say they "can't lose on Carnivore" (even that last bit of body fat) are really saying they "can't do Carnivore to lose". Big difference. It's all in the long term commitment. It takes longer, but it's much healthier to do it this way. Yup

Hi Dean -

so let me get this right - you have been doing JUST butter - no cream or cheese at all for - how long?

I just had a two day blip where I discovered that I can no longer digest things like nuts, seed butter, yoghurt (great energy but crap on my tummy) and more than a small amount of vegetables.   I feel really bloated, burpy and last night indigestion was so bad (after the supposedly helpful yogurt) I had to drink tons of chamomile tea and take antacids.  Uck.  Looks like I've lost the enzymes to handle that stuff.  Carbs were still low but completely off the wagon.   None of the stuff like tahini tasted very good to me either.  Wish that would happen to me with cheese though - losing the taste for it.

I have 5 days to drop a lb or two for my catwoman suit.  Any ideas?

0 points for me for yesterday! Shock  Sorry Tigers! Oops

Went out to dinner (last minute thing), and had a glass of wine on an empty stomach...man, I was high in like minutes! Felt like I'd popped a blue pill or something!

After that I just lost all perspective and ate Thai food like everyone else. It was 'banquet' style, so all these dishes just kept coming for everyone to sample. Confused

Not only that, but I felt so strange from the wine that I had coffee too at the end of the meal. ARG! Back to square ONE!! Roll Eyes

Can anyone guess how I feel today? Roll Eyes

OUT OF NOWHERE Shock

And we're still losing!

I think this team line up is better, though- it seems better balanced so far.

Today: shank center cut, round tip, tri-tip, eggs, butter and suet.
