No worries BJ- it's understandable.  You've done awesome so far- you're one of the star players! -so don't feel too bad about it.

Hope the after-effects wear off quickly for ya.

3pts yesterday - veg/oil and had some Sugar Twin in a coffee.

Dean, I was just nominating you ;) Seriously though, I think it would be a tough one without including dairy.

10 points for the last 3 days.  I need to get off the diet coke again.  I get really bad headaches from withdrawal of the caffiene in soda, so I know how hard it is.

Tigers still trailing... but, our secret weapon is about to show. I can just feel it. Wink

5 points for Sunday. Raw egg yolk, KC strip steak with butter and garlic powder, sb eggs with a ton of butter, and, of course, more butter. I ate another half pound of butter yesterday. Yup I IF'd all day, till 7pm. In the afternoon, I did nearly 10 km at the park, with no food, just body fat for fuel. Grin

Those KC strip steaks are pure protein! Dry meat is gross! They've trimmed every last bit of fat off of 'em! Sad Fat phobia is so sick! Mad I will NEVER again buy this type of meat. It sucks that I have so many to eat up. I can only stand to eat like 4 or 5 oz of the stuff per day. I'm gonna start eating brisket and pork belly and chicken wings along side these dry steaks. I've got to. Cuz, last night, I was having carb cravings SO BAD! And, I know exactly why. When I get loads of nice animal fat in my diet, I don't have a problem with any cravings, but, too much lean meat and I'm craving carbs. In reality, I'm actually craving FAT, cuz last night I started thinking, instead of going to get some cookies or ice cream or chocolate, what if I went and got some really fatty ground beef and some wonderful cheese, and THAT sounded SO much more appealing. I also thought about the fact that those sugary treats I craved actually all have lots of fat, as well as sugar.

I know from times in the past, when I was coming back to carnivorous eating, after going on some long sugar binge, I would eat eggs fried in lard, or super fatty burgers, that I would smother with tons of melted cheese and mayo. That would always be the BEST way to get over those tremendous carb withdrawals. Luckily, last night, I was able to just eat a bunch of butter and watch a movie and chill out, talking myself out of heading to the 24-hour grocery store two blocks away, where they have SO much junk food! It was a close call, though.

After that incident, I made a decision to always eat really fatty meat, like brisket, pork, whatever, and just eat a bit of these dry cuts of meat raw, not cooked. Gotta do it. The more I eat this way, the more I realize just how vital really high animal fat is. It seems the more of it I eat, the better I feel. Last night, after eating all that butter to calm down, I started getting so much energy. Today I feel really good and have a ton of energy. I'm really gettin' keto-adapted, I'm sure of it. Yes, in the future, after all this dry beef is gone, I'm only gonna get very fatty cuts of meat. It's such a shame how they trim all that wonderful fat off these cuts.

I'm not foolin' around when I say animal fat is where it's at. Cool

Loops wrote:
so let me get this right - you have been doing JUST butter - no cream or cheese at all for - how long?

Loops, during February, I was doing all VLC dairy, including cream, cheese, sour cream, cream cheese and butter. For March, I gave up all dairy but cream and butter. Then, for April, I went to just unsalted butter for my only dairy. I'd sorta like to go zero dairy for May, but, I gotta figure out another high animal fat source, cuz I've gotta have that stuff. The improvements I've seen, especially since going to just butter, have been remarkable.

Loops wrote:
I just had a two day blip where I discovered that I can no longer digest things like nuts, seed butter, yoghurt (great energy but crap on my tummy) and more than a small amount of vegetables.   I feel really bloated, burpy and last night indigestion was so bad (after the supposedly helpful yogurt) I had to drink tons of chamomile tea and take antacids.  Uck.  Looks like I've lost the enzymes to handle that stuff.  Carbs were still low but completely off the wagon.   None of the stuff like tahini tasted very good to me either.  Wish that would happen to me with cheese though - losing the taste for it.

Loops, the gut bacteria are switching out, and that is the reason you are having trouble eating all that rubbish. Once you give it up for a month, you will see just how quiet things will be. If you have trouble with dairy, as I do, get rid of the cream. I quit coffee and cream on April 1, and now my gut is dead silent. It's wild. Once again, people don't wanna give it a chance just to see what will happen. If they do, they will find out just how nice (and natural) it is to eat carnivorously.

Went out to dinner (last minute thing), and had a glass of wine on an empty stomach...man, I was high in like minutes! Felt like I'd popped a blue pill or something!

BJ, I can totally relate. I would probably black out on one glass of wine, and I'd feel like crap as well. Once you clean things up as much as we have, that sorta unnatural stuff is gonna cause you problems for sure.

jeff wrote:

jeff, not that you Panthers need any extra points, but, you should only be missing one point for doing bacon and cream.

Adding 16 for the last 5 days. I was at a conference and ended up eating some salads and sausages.... I loved sitting down to breakfast with a plate "full" of scrambled eggs while everyone else sat down with toast, cereal and all other imaginable carbs. Nobody said anything but I'm sure they thought it/I was odd.

I had a piece of a grapefruit too and it tasted so sweet, I don't remember grapefruit ever tasting sweet in the high carb days.

5 points for yesterday...ate nothing til about 11pm then had a small amount of seared steak just to get my 5 points! LOL

Dean, congrats on fighting off the carb cravings! WTG! I'm sure you've hit the nail on the head about it being linked to the super lean meat you've been having to eat. I have noticed exactly the same thing. The idea of eating lean protein, especially if cooked (like chicken breast or strips of fully-cooked lean beef) just seems to put me off these days.

Still feeling bad today, but certainly better than yesterday. My brain still feels fuzzy and I almost feel like I have the flu (even though I'm pretty sure it's not actually the flu).

And the Tigers pull within 18! Grin

5 points for today. Tender, fatty, extremely rare boneless rib-eye and chuck-eye steaks with some butter and a bit of hot sauce on the side. More sb eggs with butter. That's becoming quite a staple. I did IF till 9pm today, and during that time, I went to the park and did HIIT for 8 km! Glycogen's for blood cells, AC. Wink

Today, I went out and acquired several nice, fatty, good lookin' rib-eye steaks that were on sale. I also picked up some chuck-eye steaks, since I learned about 'em on the Bus. These chuck-eye steaks are so fatty and just melt in your mouth. They almost tasted better than the rib-eyes, and for much less. I've never had these chuck-eyes before, and I couldn't find them, so I had to ask at the meat counter. They showed me where they were, and told me they are called "beef spencer steaks". All these different names for different cuts. The world of carnivory is pretty wild, huh? I'm lovin' it the more I get into it. Cool

I also got some more chicken wings. I had previously purchased a half gallon jug of Frank's Red Hot sauce, which is such good stuff, at Costco. Now, they don't carry it anymore, and I'm gettin' low. Sad I will have to drive down to the burbs to another Costco to see if I can get it there. Hopefully a phone call will answer this question. I sure hope they have it, cuz, I think the half gallon was like three bucks. It's just cayenne pepper and has zero carbs/cals. It goes great with all meat, especially if you mix it with butter. Heart

Hi,

I am almost home from my conference.  Flew today and got in late.  We will drive the rest of the way (3 hours) tomorrow.  On the west coast there is green grass, tulips and daffodils.  While I was gone, we got 4.5 feet of snow.  Can't wait to get home and see all the beautiful white stuff - NOT!  All of our snow was almost gone and now we are back to ground zero again.  The weather is not supposed to get much above freezing until May 5!  This is VERY unusual, even for Canada.

Anyway - I did a perfect 5 point day on Sunday!  I was proud of myself to pull one off while at a conference.  Eggs, prime rib and sashimi.
Today was a three pointer.  No raw and I had a bit of rubbish.  (hard to eat right when you are flying).

Today for the two days is 5 + 3 = 8

Anyway, the real reason I'm posting...

Can someone pretty please try to post a picture of these 'chuck-eye' steaks?

I always have a bit a trouble figuring out what you guys are talking about because we have different names for the cuts of meat down here. Roll Eyes
I'd love to see what they look like so that maybe I can try to find them too. Thank you! Heart

BJ,

Just ask the person at the meat counter for chuck-eye steak. I've heard it goes by many different names. That way you will be able to purchase it. It's a lot less expensive than rib-eye, and it tastes wonderful! Very fatty. Cool

3pts yesterday, had a bit of mozarella and parm.

Dean, I think you've nailed it with fat/carb cravings. I think the reason I used to crave chips was bc I wasn't eating enough fat.

I think it's partially why I have trouble giving up cheese.  It's such an easy way to get more fat in, and I notice I start wanting some on days where I am missing fat. Same with cream. (interesting side note - no problems from the cheese yesterday, I really think it's dose-dependent for me. Still keeping it to a bare minimum, cream too.)

Do fatty cuts like brisket have to be cooked longer, eg crock pot as opposed to grilled? I ground a hanger steak yesterday, and it was so fatty it made it's own sauce in the pan. Very nice. Suppose brisket could go the same way?

1 point for me yesterday.  Am coming to the end of my veggies experiment I think.  I was constipated this morning (never happens to me normally), and yesterday I was blotchy and a tiny bit of eczema appeared on my neck (had been 99% free).  Yesterday I ate some green beans and broccoli, although it was absolutely smothered in butter.  V little cheese the last couple of days.

However it was easy to get the fat in with veggies but I prefer my skin and bowels without them.

Yup That's it!  In my book, just as good as ribeye, and usually about half the price or less.  I pay either 3.99 or 5.99 per pound.  I'm not sure why the difference, but it is always one of those 2 prices at the same store.  Either way, it's cheap for a fatty, tender, yummy cut of beef.

Last 3 days, 13 points. Had a little coconut oil and olive oil on a couple of a days. I just can't handle the butter...tried it for a few days and I get gassy and all...and I feel a little bloated.

Fatty meat and if needed, bone marrow. Bought some cheap rib steaks, ate them all and today, I got some brisket, VERY fatty.

Got the flu on Sat. Feel much better today.  Smile

BJ:

they are very small steaks BTW.. today im eating three of them at one sitting.. sounds like alot but seeing as altogether they only weighed .71 lbs and came in at a whopping 500-600 calories.. its not much! I cooked the outside of them in some tallow I had rendered (GO ME!) and added some steak salt (salt, crushed peppercorns and something else).. wowee so good.. I could eat them every day (and just about do!). I do like to eat them with caesar dressing once in a while too

speaking of tallow: i wonder if it's ok to leave it on the counter or will it go rancid? I had mine in the fridge and it was hard like crisco or butter.

Heart

ETA; glad youre feeling better kristelle !

Mina,

Tallow (or lard), if rendered long enough, will have all the moisture rendered out. This stuff will keep in your freezer indefinitely. It will keep in your fridge for over a year. It will keep in your cupboard for months. Some say it will keep forever, even in your cupboard. So, don't worry about it. I just take a pint size mason jar of tallow or lard out of the freezer and stick it in the cupboard whenever I run out of either. The lard is really gunky, especially in the warm months. The tallow is like chunks, cuz it's harder. You can just sorta break off pieces and heat 'em up in a skillet.

BTW, it is no coincidence that Crisco looks like lard. That was the crap that replaced lard back in the mid 20th century, when the seed oil companies put out all the fat phobia propaganda and totally screwed the health of the modern world. Sad

Do fatty cuts like brisket have to be cooked longer, eg crock pot as opposed to grilled? I ground a hanger steak yesterday, and it was so fatty it made it's own sauce in the pan. Very nice. Suppose brisket could go the same way?

Tracy,

The best way to cook brisket is in a roasting pan in the oven. Have the lid of the roaster on, and cook on really low temps for quite awhile. I've never done it, but, I did just buy a brisket recently, so I will be doin' it soon. Friends of mine have done it this way, and, yah, there is tons of fat at the bottom of the pan that you can save and pour over the meat when you reheat it. Heart

5.7740 kg body fat loss since February 1. Yup The loss just keeps on goin'.

Just for the non-believers, ZCarnivore with IF and exercise work, even to lose that last bit of body fat.

Here's the trick. DON'T CHEAT! LOL

It is so excellent to eat all that wonderful animal fat, which makes you feel so damn good, and just keep on losing body fat. Cool

Cheese and dairy seem to be very individual things.  I never had a problem losing while eating dairy.  Some do.

Yeah I know.  It's just dairy tastes so good to give it up.  I'm doing pretty well with cutting down on it, but it is just such a snackable food, and very satiating as well (I don't find meat really hits the mark unless it is chorizo etc).

5 points. La dee da. LOL Raw egg yolk, chuck-eye and rib-eye steak with butter and a bit of RedHot sauce. Have been experimenting with grilling these to be as rare as possible. Have just gilled for 3 minutes on one side and 2 minutes on the other, then remove and eat. They are still not as rare as I'd like, but they are tender and tasty for sure. Heart

Loops, I have no idea. I think there are so many calories in dairy, and it is so easy to overeat it, along with fatty meat, that perhaps it's all about excess calories. Of course, what is really cool, is you can't gain a single gram eating as much as you want on ZC. Cool Every time you lose, it's just ratcheting down to lower body fat, but you never go up. Try that on any other WOE. Wink

That's interesting about these various names for different cuts of meat.

It's a whole new language, and, depending on where you live, the language is different.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porterhouse_steak

Quote:
The T-bone and Porterhouse are steak cuts of beef. They consist of a T-shaped bone with meat on each side. The larger side contains meat from the strip loin, whereas the smaller side contains the tenderloin. T-bone steaks from the rear end of the tenderloin contain a much larger section of the tenderloin, and are called porterhouse steaks. In British usage, followed in Commonwealth countries, only the strip loin side is called the porterhouse, and the tenderloin side is called the fillet.

BTW, BJ, it's these porterhouse or strip loin side (KC strips is what they are called here in KC... everywhere else in the states they're called NY strips) that I got too many of, and that I feel are so damn lean. I've decided that the only way I can eat them is just barely seared on the outside and totally raw on the inside. Even then, I'm gonna have to limit myself to no more than 5oz of this pure protein. I need a super high animal fat ratio, otherwise I have really bad issues with headaches and carb cravings, etc.

Only 2pts for me yesterday, as I had nut/oil, dairy AND diet root beer. I ate like a crazy person yesterday - all legal stuff, but a LOT. Think it's a TOM thing (bc I wanted sweet stuff). Or bc I just wasn't very hungry the day before and didn't eat much.

Loops, I was still able to lose eating dairy even though I seem to have skin/opiate reactions (sometimes - I wish I'd have the same reaction all the time, so I knew what the heck was up. Yesterday was totally fine and I ate mozarella and cream.)

Dean, way to go on the fat loss! Remind me again how you measure, you have a scale or do you use calipers or something?

I have 31 pts to earn if I wanna reach my goal of 100 - that means I gotta get 4pts every day for the rest of the month. I work best under a deadline ;)
