So my mini MAM experiment is over...and here are the results..I am posting January as well for comparison.

February Daily Averages:

Cal 1,810
Fat 81%
Pro18%
Carb 1%

January Daily Averages:

Cal 1,563
Fat 75%
Pro 24%
carb 2%

I lost about the same amount of weight and inches on both plans, but in February I ate an average of 247 more calories a day.  However..I have not lost any weight for 2 weeks, and in February I added back 1 or 2 oz of cheese and drank slightly more coffee.  I believe that if you eat high animal fat, very low dairy and moderate protein and VLC...that a difference of a few hundred calories will not matter.  I am glad I did this.

For March I will be eating a few veggies because I grew them and I am proud.  But the rest of my eats I think will be beef and lamb and eggs.  I still have some goat cheese and I will enjoy it, but keep to 1 or 2 oz every few days, and limit my coffee(and cream) even more so.  I am going to aim for around 1500-1700 calories depending on how active I am.  This seems like a good medium between the two experiments, and it's something I can live with, and that is the important thing.

But I was still losing for the first 2 weeks(quite a bit).  And Heavy cream was there all along, so I don't really know.  But in your case Dean, you we're eating HUGE amounts of it every 2 seconds if I recall correctly.  Roll Eyes

yOu've stopped producing the enzymes necessary to digest veggies.  If yOu were to continue eating them, things would likely improve for yOu.  I guess it comes down to how much do yOu really want to eat veggies.

Thanks Jeff and Dean..I was warned this would happen by Dean...and I knew it would, I just didn't realize quite how extremely I would react.  Lets just say my body rejected it from both ends..and quickly.

I threw out the rest of my Cauliflower casserole.  I will give away the other heads in the garden (no it's not a remake of Motel Hell) I am talking about cauliflower heads.

If mid summer, when the garden is in full force, I decide to try this again, I will start with a little bit of lettuce.  I am not planting any starchy vegetation this year, and I have converted many of the vegetable beds into flower beds.  I can still grow vegetables for my friends for barter.  I do that for bicycle repair and hair cuts and such.

Thawing big juicy extra fatty NY strips for dinners the next few days...Meat is my friend...off cheese for a bit too. Still clutching onto my cream..your gonna have to pry that out of my cold dead hands! Yup

It's not really an enzyme issue. It's much more a bacteria issue. Your gut bacteria has totally changed, and this is what is causing you problems when you eat vegetation. You don't have the bacterial colonies to break down this stuff. If you want that type of bacteria in your gut, add back veggies very slowly and go through the pain and agony to readjust. Personally, I am glad that my gut does not house those critters.

Cream is something I thought I could never give up. It was the java that kept me consuming it.
Dairy. Talk about bacteria problems! Puke

I don't have a coffee addiction.  It is a treat I allow myself a few times a week, I am ok with that.  I gave up tobacco in March of 08 after 29 years of use, I gave up alcohol (except once a month) then too.  Gave up sugar and grains 6 months ago...with a few slip ups...I am ok with some cream and coffee.  I think I have taken some huge steps...

I really need to read your whole journal some day Dean..I hear it's full of insightful things.

Wow, y0u have made some great changes! Congrats! Cool

Yah, my journal is one long strange trip, trust me. Grin
BTW, I quit smoking July 1, 2001, after 25 years of that habit! Isn't it wonderful being free of that?! Sunny

Very nice Dean, good job!  I really do feel so much better.  The alcohol and tobacco went hand in hand...Now the idea of kissing a man that smokes disgusts me.  Thank god paleoman hasn't figured out how to cultivate tobacco yet... Grin

Yah, when I gave up smoking, I had to drink only water for like two years, cuz of the association to smoking that drinking anything else had.

Y0u did it, I saw that particular cauliflower somewhere else, and y0u should be proud of it. But grow lillies. Tripping over lillies is better than barfing purple cauliflower. Although in a black light situation the colors are ....... preeettttyyy!

I have a bunch of Lillies...beautiful Asiatic ones.

Ok, goal setting time.  I have to be under 200 some time in April...I just have to.  It will take exercise, detemination and some calorie slicing...no booze until I reach goal.  No cheese for 2 weeks.  11 pounds here I come.  I don't really care if I am miserable eating less calories ...it's going to happen...cause I am not very happy right now anyway.

crappy ass day...gonna go walk it off...

This reminds me of tripping and looking at multi-colored flower beds. Wink

I'm not sure if that is what was meant by "black light situation", but, yah, trippy. Wow

y0u should grow mushrooms! Grin

Well Dean...I do live in Oregon..Mushroom capitol of the world.  I often hunt for Chantrelles, Puffballs, Morels and Lobsters in the fall.....but you can find other kinds in cow pastures. Wow

I had a Shitake log in my kitchen for awhile...and grew Oyster mushrooms from a sawdust block.  There is a very cool mushroom show here every year at the aboritum.

Well, if that mushroom show is anything like your current vegetable show at the back of the Bus, I might have to fly out! Wink

And, if that show has any magic shrooms, I will certainly book a flight! Grin

There

Hope y0u get over your depression and your finger problem. What's up with your circulation? Is that the problem? Hope it clears up soon. I'm still having that stupid inflammation in my left leg. Nothing has helped it. Sad

y0u hang in there, OK? Heart

Thank you Dean, y0ur a kind man.   Heart   Do y0u have ANY clue what might be wrong with y0ur leg?  Did y0u rule out sciatic nerve problems?  I wish I could make it better..would some butter applied to it help? Roll Eyes

As far as my strange finger problem, I think it might be Raynaud's...nothing I can do about it either way.  I just need to keep my hands warm..or busy.. Devil

I didn't sleep last night..barely ate yesterday..and am not hungry this morning.  Depression...don't know..it could just be the time of year and lack of sun.  I will be fine..I just need to go crabbing and get out of my cave a bit. Grin

Inside my box

I live in a square box
my square box has rectangular panes
they cast diagonal shadows across my flat ceiling
all night long...

I live in a square box
my bed is a rectangle
I sleep diagonally
but not always all night long

I live in a square box
my box is inside a larger rectangle
I eat eggs in my box
they start out oval, they end up round.

Hi y0u.  My mom has that problem with her fingers.  All of them.  And has for a long time.  It never turned into anything else, they just turn white and get numb when cold.  I don't think she's ever gone to a doctor about it, becasue they would just give her some lame explanation, anyways.  I've always wondered if she had mild frostbite at one time or another that makes her fingers more susceptable to cold. Dunno

Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that it didn't evolve into anything for her, except that she can't go outside in winter without gloves, and has to sit on her hands sometimes indoors.

Hope y0u feel more like y0urself soon.  Depression sucks.  I've been there myself, and I know how hard it is to pull yourself up out of the black hole.  Or cave. There

Maybe if Paleoman, Meatman, and that nice piece of Cheesecake all paid you a visit, they could help.  I'll go round them up and send them over with some butter. Devil

I do not know what is going on with my sleep or my stomach, but neither is happy.  I have been drinking a lot of this funky slim tea I got at the Asian market.  I think I should stop that, it contains senna, and I read some bad stuff about it.  I don't usually do dumb things like this, but stalling has maddened me and pushed me over the edge into diet gimmicks and strange herbal remedies that really aren't meant for human consumption.  It did not help that I drank coffee yesterday morning, my body does not like it, but I will surely torture it more, possibly today even, for lack of sleep. I have answered my first sentence with the rest of this paragraph.

Medusa has taken residence inside my gut, and refuses to leave.  I laid in bed from 1-3 am..staring at the trees outside.  I did some crunches in bed, that just woke the reptiles.  I am not hungry, and fear eating will just feed the snakes anyway.

Glucose reading 89..I must be ok.  Perhaps I am just meant to not eat much for awhile.

Make yourself exhausted so y0u can sleep.

If y0ur gonna torture y0ur body because it is hanging on for its old and familiar, go somewhere with it.

Good plan Susan, I am good at torturing myself these days.

I did 90 crunches and went for a 90 minute brisk walk, and 30 minutes of aerobics.  Now what?

Medusa has left my stomach, this is good.  I ate food later on today with some good results.  I threw out the weird tea, it is not my friend.

I have been craving sugar and alcohol like mad lately.  I even walked to the pastry shop the other day and went in and looked at all the desserts and walked back home empty handed, I did the same at the wine shop. I rarely ate sugar before I went LC, so I am not sure why I am craving this, but it's a pretty strong craving.  I did eat an oz of cream cheese today and it seemed to help.

I am really frustrated with my weight stall, and I have been sticking to my plan so well by not drinking alcohol and eating under 3 carbs a day.  WTF is going on?

I have been craving sugar and alcohol like mad lately.  I even walked to the pastry shop the other day and went in and looked at all the desserts and walked back home empty handed, I did the same at the wine shop. I rarely ate sugar before I went LC, so I am not sure why I am craving this, but it's a pretty strong craving.

God, I've BTDT SO many times! LOL

I've often thought that perhaps having some carrots in a crock pot or roasted meat dish might help alleviate these cravings.

Dunno

I suppose y0u could try going with the naked Walmart ground beef.Whip

Shock  LOL

Dean, I read your journal, and your donut junkie days.  I have never been quite like that but I feel like it right now.  I do let myself drink once a month if I reach a mini goal, but I am not there, so I won't.  That's the other thing....I, like y0u, gave up tobacco, alcohol, sugar, a/s, carbs...so why isn't the weight flying off?  Yes, 30 pounds in 6 months is not bad..but I want more.  I want my fucking reward!!  I want my sexy skinny body back!!

I am sure stress is the major factor in all this.  I am a pretty practical person, I just need to move through it.  I am going crabbing on a dock in a couple of weekends..that may be just the ticket.  I refuse to use food as a tool for dealing with stress, it doesn't solve anything.

It doesn't help that I haven't slept more than about 6 hours total in 3 days.

And for the record, I have NEVER set foot in a WALMART, nor will I. (I know your joking but I am kind of proud of this fact)

Life will improve, it has to.

That may very well be your problem right there. Have you ever read the book "Lights Out"? Despite what some may preach, hormonal issues are not just controlled by excess insulin due to dietary carb consumption. Roll Eyes

Wow. That is a major accomplishment, and I must say I am also very proud of y0u! Cool And, I'm not joking. Wink

I have not read it, I'll see if the library has it.  I do have these bouts of insomnia, but since VLC it's been at least 50% better, so that's a plus. This has been going on all my life.

Thank y0u!  Another useless bit of trivia about me is that I don't drive a car, don't own one, never have.  I ride a bicycle..and I smile while I do it Grin  I smile while I do other things too. Devil

Looks like my tummy is good...so I am making this for the next 7-9 days.  Yes that is a 1/2 pound of compound butter on that 7# bottom tip roast.  I slept last night for the first time in 4 days....life is better....and i am eating well again.

Nice flowers. Did y0u take those pictures? Sunny

Hey, y0u know y0u were frustrated about stalling, but, don't the meds y0u take cause weight gain, because it shuttles glucose off to the fat cells? Perhaps that is a big reason for this stall y0u are experiencing. What do y0u think?

Actually, Metformin is not suppose to cause y0u to gain weight, and I have been on it for over 6 months. But I did read an article that states what y0u just said about it forcing glucose back into the fat cells.  so ? I lost really well the first 6 weeks of this year, so I don't think it was the cause of the stall, but I could be wrong.  However, I am going to be weaning myself off of it starting today, and see what happens.  If I don't like the readings I get I will go back on it, but if I feel fine, I am done with the crap.

I do agree with an article I read that says the oral meds people use for IR just mask the symptoms and don't cure the disease...and I have never been one to want to do that.  I don't even take cold medicine or aspirin because I want to know how sick I really am.

I am seriously jealous.  It will be 2 months before my yard looks anything like that.  When I took my kids to school this morning, it was 15 degrees out.

But, I do live in the Cow Cum Capital of the world!   Devil

I thought this was so funny.  I wouldn't go near a cow in the pasture to milk it for 2 reasons.  First, they are huge and can really hurt you if they get spooked (nor quite as dangerous as pigs though) and second, the dairy farmer might just come after me with a shotgun.  LOL
