One of the things I love most about this way of eating..is that you can exercise a TON..and have absolutely no aches and pains the next day..at least for me. Yesterday I did my 100 push-ups, crunches, weight training, and a 20 mile bike ride..I have no aches or pains this morning..in fact..I feel friggin GREAT!
From my garden this morning...

I don't exercise as much as yOu do, but then I was born in 1919 :P I also find that I'm nore energetic and have been walking a lot this week and I have absolutely no arthritic pain anymore. Just from walking this week I have found more strength and desire to move more. I will gradually ease myself into more strenous exercise. It's a wonderful feeling. _________________ Carnivore (Jun 12/09) 227/196.2/137 Max. wt: 247 (Jul-08)

Hot hot hot..it's very hot here..but I am making sure I eat an ample meal before work..and after as well. It's really hard to eat after work but if I have something prepped I will eat at least 1/2 of it.
4th of July weekend at a grocery store (where I work) is not the most fun time of the year..I happen to be lead cashier all weekend for the busiest shifts.. I suppose since I am new this is good and means I am doing a good job..but it aint gonna be fun..
I made some deviled eggs for later..and I think I will cook up a bunch of salmon burgers again..I had those cold last night...very tasty.
I do have to admit that I am not that pleased with myself for eating things with canola oil in them as of late..especially mayo. It's unrefined, but I read they use some pretty harsh stuff to renature the smell of canola oil..and vegetable oils in general I have avoided for the better part of this year..due to the wrong omega ratios..and just the fact that I don't think we were meant to eat them..it's unnatural..sort of like drinking juice.....oh well..I am doing so well in other areas..I guess I should just commend myself for that and move on.
I am trying to have a relaxed month..a certain someone in my life (relative) is out of the country for 5 weeks..and that always makes me more relaxed..so onward with exercise..onward with self improvement..and the weight will come off..
from the garden this morning...

I went for a 10 mile run last week and felt absolutely great afterward and even the next day. I rested for a couple of hours, then did 2 hours of yard work. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

yOu should join Jeff and I on the Magic Bus tour under Tribal Games since you do a lot of bike riding. Jeff runs, I walk and you cycle. We could use the help. You just need a miles to kilometers converter.

I don't have an odometer on my bike anymore so I just guess..I know when I do a 20 mile ride because it's always the same ride and I clocked it when I did have one...but the rest of it..nope..and I ride my bike everywhere.
I am not eating enough again...must try harder. This weather..and working so late at night...I just can't seem to get dinner down. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

I liked my scale this morning.
The weather is perfect for a bike ride but I have to lift weights and go to work. I find that if I lift and ride..and cashier..I am just too wiped out...so maybe a ride tomorrow..I still have the rest of the week to get my 30 miles in...no biggie. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

I became obsessed with my scale again..I developed a great fear of gaining after I got in the 100's..so now I am grounded from my scale until the 20th..it's back in storage..and I might even leave it there longer..who knows.
so there...
will concentrate on going on bike rides instead..since I am getting crap for hours at work..I have plenty of time...I went on a 10 mile ride today..and will go on a 20 mile ride tomorrow (which is actually today at this point)..my legs need more muscle definition indeed.. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

Thanks Kateryna and Karen....my garden makes me happy.
I ran into someone today that had not seen me in months..she was blown away. She kept saying "you know how good you look don't you?" "you do realize you have lost a ton of weight right?"...I laughed so hard...and thanked her profusely. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

I ran into an old riding buddy on my bike ride yesterday...we're riding together this morning. We rode 3,000 miles together one summer about 10 years ago..ahh..to be in that kind of shape again...well..maybe some day.
I still cannot do hills..my achilles is a bit stubborn that way..but hell..this time last year I was in a wheel chair and 45 pounds and 23 inches bigger..so no complaining here.
She wants to go on a 20 mile ride at least once a week, and I have another friend that wants to do that as well..which we're doing tomorrow night. So now I have 2 riding buddies for short rides.. Both of these women and I ride at the same pace..so it works out well. It would be nice to be able to ride to Harrisburg by the end of summer, which is a 43 mile flat ride. Or short Mckenzie which is 32 mile ride with 3 hills. (though I really don't want to push it with the achilles)
Life is good today...will spend time in the garden after my ride out to the wetlands...hopefully I will get to see an otter and a few great blue herons..or an egret.. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

I made myself go on a bike ride today...I ate a small meal before hand..and told myself I could have a big meal when I was done with my ride.. Went on a 25 mile ride at 5:30 pm..in 80 degree weather..got home..and absolutely no appetite..I ate maybe 900 calories today..not good..but I will try harder tomorrow. I lift weights in the morning on Fridays..that always makes me hungry for lunch....and I have to work tomorrow evening so I really do have to eat more.
40 miles in this week so far.. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

Exercise kills my appetite, too. Sometimes I may feel a slight hunger before I go for a run. Afterwards, my hunger will be gone, and I can go a few more hours before I feel like eating.
My thinking is that the exercise causes our bloodstream to be flooded with fatty acids, to fuel the exercise. When we stop, we still have lots of fatty acids in the blood. On the cellular level, the body is well-fed. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Interesting..but that makes sense...and I have lots and lots of fat to fuel my bloodstream.. I never did eat dinner and I'm still not hungry this morning.
Seems like a certain amount of exercise..as in moderate produces this effect. I remember when I used to do extreme rides(60-90 miles) I would go to this buffet with friends and eat thousands of calories within an hour or so after riding..but I had less fat (tho still plenty)..I imagine my body just used up all the fatty acids in my bloodstream quicker and needed fuel from somewhere else..and after I ate I would be really wired for hours..and then my muscles would cramp up..and the soreness would start..hahaha
I have a calmer approach to exercise and eating these days..and yes..more moderate.. I am hoping to try a 40 mile ride soon and see what happens...that might require me bringing some fuel though...perhaps pemmican. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

Were yOu eating a high carb diet when yOu would do the 60-90 mile rides and then be hungry afterwrd? That would make sense. yOu would have had a much higher level of circulating insulin, which would make it harder for your body to access your fat stores. That's what made yOu hungry. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Yes indeed I was..and pounding Cytomax, Goo, and Clif bars while riding...then eating carbs afterwards....then a bunch of Beer or wine..
Now I might eat a small meal many hours before riding, I ride in the evening when it's cool out before my second meal..and I always lift weights in the morning before eating...just have some coffee usually..
Jeff..are you going to eat before your marathon..or do you just eat a big meal the night before?
I wonder how far I can ride now without any "added" fuel? hmmm... _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

Since the race starts at 6:30 A.M. I won't be eating before the race. I can't eat anything significant within about 3-4 hours of running. I'm joining some friends at a Brazilian steakhouse the night before. All you can eat meat! I plan on eating a HUGE meal about 12 hours before the race. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

I have heard of those Brazilian steakhouses..you are probably their worst nightmare.. They won't be making any money off of you and your friends.
So this is my biggest strawberry harvest so far...I'll have them this evening for dessert.
I woke up this morning very groggy from a very hot evening..(no, not what you think, just hot weather)..and had NO motivation to exercise..but I made myself do it. before it got hot out again....and without any coffee before hand..so another 20 mile ride..and perhaps another ride today..we'll see.
So that is 65 miles this week...plus 3 days of push-ups and weight training.. and crunches...not bad at all! _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

Jeff needs to translate your biking miles into kilometers, yOu, and put them up in the Magic Bus World Tour. I'm trying to delegate here since I don't have anyone at work or at home I can delegate to _________________ Carnivore (Jun 12/09) 227/196.2/137 Max. wt: 247 (Jul-08)

I'd be ok with that if he wants to..I have no clue how to convert them, I failed metric.

Those strawberries look awesome - it's the only fruit I ever miss...and maybe clementines.
Fantastic job on the exercise!! |

Hey, y0u should go through this journal and add up all the miles y0u've done, then just punch that number into a calculator and multiply by 1.6 to get the klicks.
Take this Bus a little "Furthur" around the world!

Thanks for the conversion Dean..and the song.
Not sure I am up to adding up old miles..may just go forward from this week on...but I think I can help take the Bus a little "further". ..and hopefully not put it in the bottom of a lake.
I watched the sun set from the garden this evening while harvesting and braiding my shallots and the rest of my onion crop so they can dry....my garden brings me an immense amount of joy...I love getting my hands dirty....actually I like anything dirty..

I understand how a person can get an immense amount of joy from gardening which I used to when I could spot a patch of dirt around whatever I was living in at the time. Now it's just flower boxes on the balcony. I was never interested in vegetable gardening but my flower patches were to die for. I loved planting and growing flowers of all kinds. That's why I love the pictures you post of your flowers _________________ Carnivore (Jun 12/09) 227/196.2/137 Max. wt: 247 (Jul-08)

I've decided not to weigh myself tomorrow..I know I have not lost weight..I can tell. It's not from lack of exercise or eating badly..I am quite on track with both of those. I don't need any disappointment right now.
I have Mon-Wed off and Friday off..so I can get lots of rides in this week..and try and find a ride to the sports store to pick up some 25# hex's. I would like to go up in weights.
I need to keep focused...and stop stressing out. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

Not weighing is probably a good idea. No sense in setting yourself up for disappointment. Maybe you could take measurements? _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Couldn't help myself..I weigh the same..as I thought..no measurement change either..I am stalled and that is that. But at least I am still 195..no gain.
Moving on... _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

There are some who believe that exercise actually hinders weight loss.. If the stall continues for an extended period, you might try ditching the exercise for a while. Just a thought. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Yep..I have heard that many times..but I am not willing to stop my exercise because there are so many health benefits like lowering my blood pressure, no asthma etc...I will re evaluate in a few weeks if I see no change though.. and I do measure..no change there either.
Thanks Jeff.
