I get eggs like that. They are so awesome! A nurse that Mrs. L works with has chickens. They come in all shades of brown, and sometimes even kind of a greenish color. Crazy! Yes, the yolks are a dark orange. If you have one in a frying pan side by side with a grocery store egg, the difference is startling. The grocery store egg yolks look so pale in comparison. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Well, i know is way too late in the month to join this threat...and common sense would dictates to wait until June to start...It is a good thing that I do not let common sense ever get in my way!
Today, I started VVLC, mostly meat, calorie restricted trial, since I have been low carbing for a while, with no weight loss. I have never taken my calories bellow 2000 + or my carbs bellow 20. Always felt obligated to eat salads ( I do not even like vegies!)
am: 2 cups of coffee + 4 tbsp of heavy cream + splenda
lunch: 3 eggs + bit of cheddar cheese + bit of ham + tbspoon butter
dinner ( will be ) pork chops
* if I must -before bed: tea with splenda
I do not have a food scale, must get one to end the guestimations.
Must cut down in cream and splenda...
You guys do not drink tons of coffee...Anyone out there did not have to give up coffee with cream and splenda? anyone....? Pleeease? |

I have given up coffee for years at a time..added it back in..taken it back out. I drink it in moderation now and I do just fine with it. Splenda is a whole other subject. I don't eat any processed foods, and artificial sweetener falls into that category for me. It also triggers an insulin surge for me and I just want more sweet stuff. A tiny bit of fruit seems fine for me and does not give me the same reaction.
But that is just me, some folks do fine with Splenda. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

I guest it makes sense to systematically clean up my diet.
Coffee is a deal breaker for me, but I am willing to go splenda-less. Cream is good, but I know there are options available that are just as good.
Also, cream is the precursor of butter, how bad could it be?... |

"Celia, youre breaking my heart
Youre shaking my confidence daily
Oh, cecilia, Im down on my knees
Im begging you please to come home
Come on home" Paul Simon....
I couldn't resist!!!
Food today:
beef patty, mayonnaise
strip steak chipotle mayonnaise
1 dill pickle
3 deviled egg halves
2 pcs of beef cracklings.
3 jalapeno poppers made with jack cheese & bacon bits
I gave up caffeine in December of 2008. never looked back.
I don't eat any processed food, or artificial sweeteners.
I consider myself a strict carnivore.
My daily intake consists of protein, fat and water.
once in a blue moon i like to indulge in things like a half sour deli pickle
or jalapeno poppers or a fish taco..
I don't count calories, count carbs, count anything except how full my belly feels after my feedings..
I eat twice a day and try to space out my meals to about 8-16 hours apart to give my body a chance to digest all of my fat and protein.
i walked away from coffee but I don't want to walk away from my social food which is the food listed above..
i'm a BIG fish taco lover!!!
HTH
and welcome!

Cecilia, like Bobi, I also drink tons of coffee. Never caused a problem for me. I was never one to put sugar or sweetner of any kind in my coffee, so that was not an issue. I am not currently using cream in my coffee, but I have in the past. I think in modest amounts it is probably fine for most people. Do you use half and half, or heavy whipping cream? _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Jeff, I mostly use heavy whipping cream. About 2 tablespoons per mug.
Have been know to drink 4 or 5 mugs a day, capping myself to 2 or 3 lately. Ok, 3 or 4...That can come up to almost a cup a day! |

Today May 27/09
Second day of tweaking.
In deep ketosis. Love this feeling.
No cravings at all. Not much hunger. If I could just feel this way all the time!
3 cups of coffe (6 tbs cream- 3 splendas)
scrambled eggs ( 3 eggs-1 tbs butter-ham-cheddar cheese)
pork chops - could not even finish a piece- very full.
Carbs are pretty high because of the cream and splenda...
Have about 4 hours left, so will probably drink tea this evening.
Goal for tomorrow: Cut cream and splenda to half to today's. |

I thought i was in deep doo doo when none of my markets had decent meat sales on the meat i like to eat, this week...
and then this morning, my big meat market posted whole boneless ribeyes for $5.49 lb...
got a biggie....
will get another one before the sale ends next thurs.
and the meat market was dead.
they said their business is way down.
and the restaurant we got chix wings at upped their price on us...
i hope the skeptics are right in that this recession is on the way out by end of summer... _________________ "Failure is an opportunity to start again more intelligently." |

Personal weirdness, but I have always found shrooms foreign, alien, something that evolved so differently from every other life form on earth. I am scared of mushrooms.
I do not trust seafood either. You know, the ones that look like bugs.
Maybe should only eat those animals that evolved the same way that we did. Land dwelling, mammals, plus birds and fish, just because. |

Today May 28
Carbon copy of yesterday, minus a bit of hwc and splenda
Coffee x 3 with hwc and splenda
scrambled egg with butter, ham and cheese.
Pork chops
This weekend I will go shopping and will be eating better.
Also will buy a food scale so I can maybe track calories.
I am hoping to phase out splenda and reduce the hwc a bit.
* to answer a question up thread: the cream is heavy wiping cream and have less than a carb per tsp. Do not know for sure if 0.1 or 0.9. Just to be in the safe side I count it as a carb. |

Oops! I haven't posted...but I have gone zerocarb in the last week. Still doing my workouts. Not weight loss so far but my clothes are much looser.
Will weigh tomorrow.

TMI Warning!
I have a question that I would rather post here than out in the main board as a new thread...
Constipation and leg cramps....always an issue if I when calories>2000.
I have been lowcarbing for 2 years, so it is not a fiber issue.
I think that is a matter of being a little dehydrated and my electrolyte balance is off. So I take magnesium, use NoSalt to get potasium and drink water like is going out of style. Issue persist. If I take laxatives, make dehydration worse....
This has been the reason for me to jump of the wagon, one can get cranky after a week of "no go" and leg cramps.
Do you guys have any advise for me.? Anyone else have this problem? I wonder if my body will adapt if I ignore it. I was able to lose weight eating over 2000 cals until I reached 180 lbs. I have been maintaining on 20 carbs or less for a year now. |

The cramps could be from too much water. I think it's possible that excess water can dilute electrolytes. I would suggest that you drink water only when thirsty. This worked for me.
Can't help with the constipation. Never had that problem. Maybe try upping your fat? _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Cecilia,
I have the cramping problem big time. Not just in my legs but everywhere - regardless of calorie intake. I don't know how much potassium is in the no salt but I take two 99mg potassium tablets every night along with 500mg of Magnesium. This has not cured my cramps but I am reminded every night I forget to take my potassium that it helps. Ouch! You may want to try the straight supplement and see if that helps.
As for the constipation, I don't have that problem BUT I can say that if I overdo it on the fat I have the opposite problem - so I'd say, get yourself lots of scrumptious fat and see if that doesn't get things *Ahem* moving.
Best of luck to you!
