Heather, you need to go to the back of the Bus, at least once a day.
jeff, yah, I figured the C was probably denatured out of the RedHot sauce. I was sorta funnin' about it all. I doubt carnivores need much C. I used to supplement, but haven't in over a year. I used to have orange pee while supplementing, so, I'm not sure how much of those pills I was just flushing down the drain. My teeth have not been bleeding or anything, so I'm not sure I've gotten scurvy or anything close to it.
I'm not sure what I could add to my diet that would "cover my needs" of any supposed nutrient deficiency. I'm really more leery about taking pills for whatever artificial junk or overdose of certain nutrients I'd be getting, than I am leery about not getting certain things by not taking supplements. What to do, what to do. I used to do berries in smoothies, but, I'm done with those. I now only eat a few mushrooms and very few black olives. I feel a lot better without vegetation than I have ever felt with it, mainly cuz of my GI tract feeling so clean. There is so much bad bacteria growth in the gut that occurs with vegetation consumption. Plus, don't want the fiber damage.
I'm open to suggestions, but, once again, we only have the modern "experts" to rely on. That's a scary thought, isn't it?

Klondike is doing so great! He is able to handle the rabbit just fine. I'm not giving him too much, but, he eats what I do give him, and it's so good to see him eat some real nutrition.

Well, he still goes under there at times, but, I'm not sure what is going on with that. He comes out and acts fine. If I just show him his brush, he comes right out and hops on the bed so I can brush him. He loves getting brushed. He has never gone under there in the past, except when he was really sick. Cats do that. I think he may have bouts of feeling bad. I started feeding him some raw kidney last night. Very small pieces. He loves it. He still eats the rabbit, but, I really have to watch how much protein I give him, cuz, he just can't handle too much. At times he gets real nauseated and can't eat anything, then he looks to me and cries. It's so hard to deal with it sometimes.
Anyway, he does spend a lot of time out and about, and seems so healthy. That homeopathy is amazing stuff, cuz, Klondike would have passed on back in August, but, he has such a great spirit and seems to be OK most of the time. His BUN/Cr was/is so sky high he should be on his death bed, but, he's not. Not at all. Go figure. Sad thing is, he could turn on a dime, and these sessions under the bed may be a sign that his time is coming. But, who knows. I wish he could live forever, or at least past the age of four!
Talk about living on an emotional rollercoaster!
Did I ever mention how much I HATE modern medicine?!

Woke up today to find Klondike gone. Thought he was under the bed, but he was in the window. I just hope when his time comes, it is quick, painless, and in his sleep. I'll sure miss him, but, I don't wanna be the one to have to put him down, and, I really don't want him to suffer. I know that will be so hard on me to watch. Oh, and I hope he outlives me.
IFing is something I always do now. I only eat once in the evenings. I can take or leave java, first thing in the day, but, for good measure, I usually take it... with cream.

Dean, thanks for posting article by Dr. Rosedale. Lots of good info there. There are a few things I think many of us would disagree with, though.
I don't quite understand his aversion to sat fat. His reasoning seems to be that we already have enough, in the form of body fat. That doesn't make much sense to me.
He also seems to be in favor of fiber. He doesn't really say why it's good...just that it is. I think we know better. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Yah, I'm not sure about the sat fat deal. He seems to be against grain-fed animals as being optimal nutrition. Bear would disagree, I'm sure. So would biblelife.org, the site that posted this article. Of course, lots of Bus members would agree about the naturally raised animals, and, ironically, that is what Bear ate. I'm sorta on the fence about it, but, in the long run, I'm sure all of us will have to eat grass-fed animals anyway, making this whole issue moot. Grain farming is coming to a screeching halt here real soon.
Cool thing is, I've already convinced all my vegan family members of the necessity to raise bison on our land. I'm gonna be talkin' with all my cousins next month, when we have a huge family reunion down in central Kansas at the homestead of our grandparents. My future mission is to bring back the native grasslands and the native animals in that whole area, and have numerous bison ranches. At some point, perhaps we can tear the fences down. Our family has so many grain farms down there that must be converted. No choice. Gonna build a bunch of earth homes out there, too. Solar, wind, the whole thing. Got many friends that are really interested. I'm not sure what the Food Pyramidiots are all gonna eat. Each other?
Seriously, grass-fed animals and small vegetable gardens is gonna be the norm. Vegans will be dying off pretty quickly without all their grain-based junk food. They can't survive on veggies. Sorry. Even my vegan sister is now agreeing with that. She wants to raise chickens for the eggs. I do too. And, for the meat, of course.
Read this article, if you haven't already. It's brilliant. My siblings read it, and then they said, "so, when are we gonna start up the bison ranch"?! I guess I musta pushed 'em over the edge with that one.

Yea, the fiber and saturated fat I didn't agree with but the rest of the article was very informative. Right after reading the article, I went out and bought a ton of organ meats, shellfish, etc...more in my journal. _________________ "When you give up your dream, you die" |

Hey Dean, sorry about your cat! but you guys have a good connection it sounds like, you really know how he feels and what effects him, im glad your using homeopathy on him, yea vaccinations suck! my god mother never let me get mine...anyways i read your doin IF, has this helped with any weight loss? Im considering this, im not really hungry early in the day and than if i do eat i usually end up over eating at night anyways so i thought why not just skip and over eat at night as usual, and I'll end up eating less calories...good luck, and say hi to Klondike |

Thanks for the kind words, Amanda.
Yah, Klondike and I are really connected. He's doing much better today. He has been crying a lot for rabbit, and it sucks that I cannot give him more than just a small amount, cuz of his kidneys.
IF is something that one can work into slowly, and I've noticed the longer I do it, the easier it is. Today, I didn't have time to eat, and it didn't matter. I was able to go all day without any food, with no hunger pangs. I only ate once, and it was close to midnight. On VLC/ZC, there's no blood sugar issues to contend with, so it makes it very easy to IF. I've even noticed during times of sugar eating, my blood sugar is still under control, and I can IF, since I've done such a great job conditioning myself in doing it, by combining ZC and IF for long periods of time.
The best way to get into trying IF, is to not eat during the first part of the day. Just go as long as you can, and you will notice that you can go longer and longer. Eventually, you will feel really good while doing it. It is healthy to allow your body a break from digestion. You will naturally reduce calories, which is another plus, whether you are overweight or just maintaining. There are lots of threads in the Carnivore Cafe about IF. Good luck, and let us know how it goes, if you decide to try it.

Well, the last week has been a total mess as far as wanting to get out in the beautiful sunny weather and put some klicks in. My lower back flared up a week ago, and, for the first couple days, I was lucky to pull myself to an upright position, and "crawl along the walls" from room to room. Spent a boat load of time just doing stuff at my desk, which is great to get caught up with that sort of stuff, but, wasn't exactly what I was after. Wanted to do a bunch of physical stuff, including getting to the park.
After a couple days I was able to walk, some what, but, attempting certain movements was excruciating, to say the least.
This all stems from a car wreck I was in many years ago. While it has flared up from time to time, it's been many years since the last time, so, I'm not used to being this disabled.
I did manage to do some walking outside over the last few days, and I can at least walk upright, instead of bent over like a cripple. Damn lower back! Not good.
Anyway, it is slowly getting better, and I'm gonna be back in the park a lot in the next few days. Gotta take it easy at first, but, I was really looking forward to working out with both HIIT cardio and resistance exercise. It will eventually happen.
I found out that Klondike was going under the bed for the hell of it. He does it a lot, but, when I call him, he comes out and spends a lot of quality time with me. He cries for rabbit a lot, and it breaks my heart I have to limit the amount I give him so much. I hate to see him eat that fricken corn meal! Oh, well, at least he has been sleeping next to me at night and being a total sweetheart!
I'm gettin' into some calorie reduction, mostly through IFing and small portions, and a bit lower fat ratios. There is some body fat I still wanna lose, and I'm after those flat, hard abs. The few carb indulgences I have fallen into over the last month has really added some fat super quick. It's not a lot, but, I HATE it. Don't even wanna go down that road!
Will keep y'all posted on my progress. I'm very confident that I'm gonna persevere with this. I know what I need to do. There is no confusion about that in my mind.

Dean- I saw on Sol's journal that you spent a lot of time hiking in the Black Hills. I hiking. What did you think of that area for hiking? Any favorite places? My favorite hiking area so far has been in the northshore area of Minnesota. (beautiful waterfalls!) |

Heather, I have hiked in that area of Minnesota, and I know what you mean. It is great.
Have you ever been to the Black Hills? They have great hiking. You can see lots of wildlife too, cuz a lot of the trails go through protected wilderness areas. But, they don't have any bears! If you've never been there, you need to go. You will love it. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

Heather,
Horsethief Lake Campground is wonderful. Sylvan Lake Campground is a good spot as well. Both are great to get to tons of trail heads. These are both near Harney Peak (highest point east of the Rockies) in the Black Elk Wilderness. Be sure to check out the Cathedral Spires and the Lost Cabin - Harney Peak Loops. They are cool, and are not used very much. From Sylvan Lake it's much busier. I like Horsethief, cuz it has a great swimming skinny dipping lake and access to lots of seldom used trails that are really wild and cover more of the Black Elk Wilderness. Get a good map at a forest office. Have fun. I know you will.
BTW, this is a great time of year to go. Be sure to check out when the Sturgis bike rally is, though, cuz it gets a bit insane during that time. You might wanna avoid the hills during that week. Sturgis on the other hand... well, you might just fit in there pretty well, with your wild side and all.
Hey, here's a clip from this week's SAA meeting at the back of the Bus. The Kool-Aid was pretty strong that night!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIdyC9W9Cvc
I think this should be adopted as the SAA theme song, don't you?

Dean- Thanks for taking the time to give me the inside info for the Black Hills hiking. I am sure this will help me make the most of hiking there when I get a chance to go back.
Yes, that could be a good theme song for the SAA meetings. (based on the title) The video is pretty artsy... you might be right about the Kool Aid. |
