that southern drawl is because of spending so much time online..others are rubbin off on me i guess.. he he
It's 2:43pm and the day is going great. I kinda feel like a fish out of water with all the food changes and not even knowing WHAT to eat..but i am taking Dean's advice and eating anything paleo i want without worrying about it and getting my health back without worrying about weight loss yet. I need some adjustment time.
So here is what i ate so far today..(you'll laugh)
1 cup coffee with 1 Tb of coconut oil and small splash of cream
1 banana
3 fried eggs fried in small amt of butter and olive oil
fried ham
15 raw almonds
6 ozs pineapple
1 half avacado
3 oz carrot juice
1 hard boiled egg
so far so good..I actually feel more energy than i have felt in weeks. This is exciting! _________________ back to LCing for the zillionth time..maybe this time is a charm??? |

Hey, Karen! Glad to see you are getting into some good eating, and that your family is on the same page. That will make a huge difference in your success.
Keep up the good work. You know you can do this thing, and it sounds like you have family support, which is super!

hi jeff and heather..
thanks for stopping by!
i did really good yesterday! yay!
here is what i ate:
cup coffee with lotsa cream
3 scrambled eggs in butter
with 1 oz american cheese and 1 oz mont jack
4 pcs bacon
2 pcs beef bologna
1 hard boiled egg
2 porkchops with butter melted on them
egg salad made with 3 eggs and mayo
1 oz mont jack cheese
handful cashews
I've decided i am trying to stick to VLC as much as i can stand it..and eat mostly meats, eggs, and fat...but i am "allowing" myself occasional veg, fruit or nuts as a sanity keeper..almost like they will be a once in a while "treat"..like last night when i felt really crazy after eating no carbs all day..i wanted to dive into a cake..instead i took a handful of cashews and called it a night..i think that will work for me. Not making veg, fruits or nuts a part of my daily food..but making them a "once in a while treat" for when i really feel the need for them..and i figure that might happen often my first couple weeks..and thats ok...until i get my body really ketogenic _________________ back to LCing for the zillionth time..maybe this time is a charm??? |

Karen, this is what I meant when I said you have to find your own way of doing this, and not follow any books or such. You are figuring things out for yourself, and from the looks of things, are doing fantastic. That is a very good strategy you have adopted. Stick to it, cuz from my own experience, I know what you are doing now will be a cinch. It's very true that when you crave junk, you can satisfy those urges with a little fruit or nuts. I used to eat that way, and I lost body fat on a very consistent basis. The trick is, as you are so correct in doing, is to keep your fat intake high, cuz that will satiate you so much that you won't even need those occasional treats of fruit and nuts that often.
WTG, Karen! Keep up the good work!

I wish you luck with that. I'm currently on the 'break-up diet' which is pretty low calorie in itself because I cannot eat anything (see my journal for details). |

ok..heres where i stand..
i am down 9 lbs since Jan 1
I have been reading the old Bear thread and had forgotten how much great stuff he had to say! BUT...due to acculturation and little will power i have come to the conclusion that the Bear diet is just too difficult for me..lol. But thats ok.
I am glad i TRIED to eat VLC for the past 2 days because it got rid of cravings and helped bring back mental clarity and i am much more motivated to move forward on low carb!!
I have decided to eat paleo with cream, butter and cheese ...pretty much any and all low carb/good carb foods. I have ALOT of weight to lose and i need to do something that will WORK for me for LIFE. Diets dont work. I can't go on a diet and then go off of it after losing..i need to make this a way of life.
Here is my food for yesterday:
coffee with cream
5 fried eggs with butter
2 pcs bacon
chicken with skin and broth (probably 8 ozs)
lamb (maybe 6 ozs or more)
2 oz cheddar
1 string cheese
1 strawberry
small handful cashews
1 banana
lotsa water _________________ back to LCing for the zillionth time..maybe this time is a charm??? |

I think that's what almost everybody finds. And that's what Bear said.....very few could follow the path. But, you can achieve great benefits from coming as close as you can. Your food from yesterday looks great. If you keep that up, you will be fine. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Never giving up is the key. You have to have it in your mind that whatever path you take, it has to be done with the idea that it is forever. Sure, we may slip up once in awhile, but we must stay on the path that we have chosen. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

I am so sorry for what you are going through! It will take some time to heal from this. Give yourself the time you need and be gentle with yourself. But whatever you do...don't use it as an excuse to binge..it will only make you feel worse. Stick with your neanderthin program and keep your mental clarity. Come cry on my shoulder anytime you need to! |
Thank you Karen.
I'm never using this as an excuse to binge because I feel,in some way, that would give my ex power over me.
My youngest teenager has been offering to get me my fav treat from the store since it happened (Sour Cream and Onion Ruffles) but I have refused and told him I don't want those and that it would not be worth it to feel miserable AND sick.
I really don't have much of an appetite right now but I have been forcing myself to eat very small portions of meat or fish and I am drinking lots of water and green tea to keep hydrated and I am taking my vitamin every day. This morning was the first morning since Tuesday evening that I felt hunger pains but they did not last long because I needed sleep more then food.
That is what I call the Break Up diet. I'm losing a lot of water retention
but that is good because I can spare that.
This morning I was even thinking that breaking up with me might have been the best thing he ever did for me.
Now I have to go call Bell Canada and get my phone number changed into a unlisted number so he cannot call me in case he changes his mind and decides he misses me.
Thanks. |

Ok..i am in shock! I have lost another 10 lbs since tuesday! So my total weight loss since Jan 1 is 19 lbs.
19 lbs in 12 days!!!
I think this is why...i am still Breastfeeding. From what i understand it speeds up your metabolism and you burn 500 cals a day breastfeeding so it is easier to lose weight while bfing. apparently so! i have NEVER lost this much weight in such a short time!!! NEVER!!
Meg...now we know why u lost 17 lbs in one week in June!!
Usually when i have done atkins induction i lose 12 lbs in the first two weeks..and i also got pissed because my dad and hubby would lose 16-17 lbs their first two weeks. Well..i now have a secret weapon! Maybe i will breastfeed FOREVER! muhahahahahaha _________________ back to LCing for the zillionth time..maybe this time is a charm??? |

Tuesdays Food:
3 scrambled eggs in butter
with 1 oz cheddar
2 pcs turkey bacon
2 hunks liver sausage
2 ozs muenster cheese
(leftover) Concoction i made with:
1/4 lb Ground beef, onion, mushrooms,
broccolli, tomato sauce, mozz cheese,
parmesan cheese
1 banana
1 TB peanut butter
handful cashews
small handful almonds
1 oz turkey
4 ozs wild salmon
2 beef hot dogs
1.5 cups cauliflour with butter/garlic
OK>>YES..thats ALOT of food...the reality is..i had a difficult day and couldnt seem to stop eating! You could say i went on a binge..only i stayed low carb on the binge..so HEY! (thats where the Peanut butter comes in as well)
I decided that i am out of hand with the cheese and the nuts at this point..so its time to re-evaluate...i was thinking back and forth between atkins and paleo..but realized whichever i pick i got to stick to it and not waver around..i CANT eat fruit AND cream, cheese and butter...OR i will be lucky if i lose! So i have decided to go paleo...without the dairy!! SCARY SCARY SCARY! I'm gonna try...i decided this AFTER i had a coffee with cream this morning..but thats ok... _________________ back to LCing for the zillionth time..maybe this time is a charm??? |

ohhhhhhhh... and some bad news
my scale was whacked out the other day..(which im not surprised)
i didnt really lose 19 lbs in 2 wks...sigh
but i DID lose 11.6 lbs in 2 wks
(which makes more sense...every time i have ever low carbed i have always lost 11-12 lbs in my first 2 wks..thats standard for me)
So looks like breastfeeding isnt no secret weapon after all..but it didnt HINDER my loss either...actually it might have helped..because i was eating fruit AND dairy and still managed to lose 11.6 lbs.
I am not gonna let the scale malfunction depress me...its ok
