Jeff,
Your kind of confessional must be in the back of the bus. I guess I should not sign up for wine duty anymore. Actually, I hate wine but can tolerate the church wine once in awhile. Usually there is none left over but last night there was a couple of ounces.
Dean,
I joined the March challenge, sounds like fun.

It is in the back of the Bus. That's where all the best stuff happens. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Can't count this weekend, as I had a few diet root beers (I am so hardcore) and Saturday night, I actually carbed out on gluten-free pizza and chips. I was surprised to discover that chips don't really do it for me anymore. I think my tastes have changed this month. The pizza was...okay.
Waking up puffy the next morning wasn't. It really wasn't worth it. I can't believe I'm saying that. I used to love my carby binges, but this time it was...meh. Would have rather eaten chicken wings. Interesting.
I've realized that I could happily live on meat, fat and some dairy, with a bit of diet root beer and hot cocoa thrown in! Even though I like veggies, I haven't missed them once. I'm really, really surprised with all this. _________________ www.fearandloathinginthekitchen.com |

My weekend was shot (wine, diet soda, cake....damn book club!) but I am being a good girl today. I wanted to have at LEAST 2 full weeks of carnivore in for the month. _________________ http://wifezillasway.blogspot.com/ |

My weekend was shot too. I won't go into all the details but unfortunately, I still crave some of my sweet carbs and can't say that they really weren't that good after all.

I only managed to get 2 days of this past several as completely carnivore. I was in Hormone Hell. Though not a valid excuse, it does help explain it. Today is looking like it will be 100% carnivore... so that is encouraging. |

Well I just cooked some Texas beef ribs, and when I took them out of the oven I just thought "ugh". Tasted like overcooked beef. So I had smoked salmon and cream cheese, a nog, and "kitchen clean" bacon. I really don't feel much like eating. I'm fasting til 4pm, even 6pm, with no problem. Only a bit of cream in tea today during fasting, the rest of the day was mint tea.
So not into food today. And it's TOM, how weird is that? Normally I'd be munchy. (Maybe that's what Saturday evening was about...) _________________ www.fearandloathinginthekitchen.com |

I'm out for today and tomorrow. I have some cupboard cleaning to do and I can't afford to waste things.
This challenge has been interesting and educational. I figured out Splenda is not making any difference in my weight, that veggies are optional, and that zero-carb is doable and tasty. _________________ http://wifezillasway.blogspot.com/ |

Despite eating loads of cals during the whole month, I didn't gain a thing... but, I also didn't lose a gram.
Gotta ditch the dairy in a big way.
Oh, well... it's been real.
So, with a La dee da... I'm outta here! _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

I did it, a whole (short) month. I have gained and lost one pound overall, but it seems I'm not the only one. But, on the plus side, I do feel better in myself, cleaner and lighter so maybe it is a water balance thing.
Right...........next challenge......... |

Congratulations everyone! I feel good that I was only off for 4 days out of the month. I ended up losing at least 10.6 pounds since 1/21/08. From 2/4 I have lost 8. So that is pretty good. Now if I add in walking maybe that will help. Can't start today though unless it quits raining.

Dean, in order to lose those last few pounds, it's likely that you'll have to restrict calories. Ditching dairy is one way you could do that.
It also could be that your body has reached it's fat-o-stat point. Which again would require calorie restriction to get lower. I know you say you have a small roll of fat around your middle, but our bodies do want to maintain a certain fat level. What our body thinks is healthy and what we think looks good may not be the same thing.
From experience I can tell you that if you do restrict calories in order to get below your fat-o-stat point, you will have to maintain that reduced calorie level, otherwise the fat will come right back. This happened to me last summer.
Just some things to think about.
(Of course, getting back into a regular exercise routine might not hurt, either ) _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Dean, my guess would be that calorie restriction will not get rid of your little roll of fat. I would bet on exercise instead.
I would also bet on dairy being irrelevant to this particular situation.
In sum, I think that if you added exercise and didn't make any other purposeful change (that is, let diet adjust naturally to whatever effect the exercise has on it), the fat would melt off.
Just my guess. |

Calorie restriction may help in the short-term but the body will adjust by slowing its metabolism and there is so much you can lose. If you happen to increase calorie consumption subsequently, then you will inevitably gain weight due to a lower metabolism. I consider this a lose-lose situation long-term. Caloric restriction isn't enjoyable either. It is frustrating.
Exercise is healthy, good for the brain and the body but will do nothing to reduce weight. Again, the body adjusts by increasing appetite and/or keeping more calories in.
Nature is built a certain way. You can't go against it but you can learn from it and apply it to better your life. _________________ "When you give up your dream, you die" |

Thanks for all your concerns, but I have had this fat roll gone several times, and maintained my more ideal weight. This weight I'm at right now, and this stupid little fat roll are not normal. I gained it way back in September, eating lots of carbs, and never lost it. I've BTDT so many times. I have lost and maintained my weight and my waist size often by sticking to qausi-paleo eating (basically meat with fruits & veggies). This was with NO exercise, and no feeling of deprivation.
I have watched so many times when I add in dairy, for whatever reason, I can never lose the extra fat that I really should not be carrying. Even though it's just a few pounds, I don't want it. When I first did quasi-paleo, I would eat just a bit of butter now and then, but other than that, I did not eat any other dairy. I actually ate fatty cuts of pork, so I was not really eating lean meat all the time. Dairy is really causing me to stall. I know for you Wisconsinites, that is something you are not allowed to consider. I've read the WI state constitutional amendment on this, and I understand the reasons.
It really doesn't matter about the dairy anyway, cuz I wanna get to what I consider a much healthier way of eating, and that is just clean cuts of animals and water. When I'm eating these cuts raw, like my hero does, I will really have arrived to optimal health. I'll get there, too. Just watch me.
BTW... officially, I just found out this morning, that I did lose 0.7436 kg of body fat during the month of February. But, that is unacceptable, considering that I should have lost at least 3 or 4.
Also, I know exercise is healthy, and that's why today I am making a firm commitment to get back to it for real! Watch for my Exercise Log to start getting active, as I make my way toward that toy box! _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

So Dean, you lost about 1.5 pounds? Not bad for somebody eating tons of calories, including dairy. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Hey Dean -
don't feel disappointed - you didn't gain and in fact lost so ??? I am wondering if dairy fat makes people retain water more than other types of fat - and remember water might get stored in the old fat cells for awhile after working off the fat.
So you have been ultra-high fatting recently right? Where does that leave your protein? I know Bear says that none of it goes towards gluconogenesis but I've been seeing people drop weight with SLIGHTLY lower protein.
I too wouldn't restrict the calories - as Jeff says unless you can keep that up forever.
As far as exercise I thought you were already getting a good work out at the back of the bus (?!). |

Perhaps this back of the Bus exercise is not as vigorous as Dean would have us believe. Although I do have to say.......I was partying back there the other day with him and Heather L. , and it was pretty wild.
