I'm in desperate need of a clean LC break, and though this will be tough in my land of the cheerios-eating husband-unit, well, tough...

Thanks for the welcome.
Yeah AC is a hoot. It's really kind of sad. I think he probably has a lot of good information and ideas. If he could only pull his head out long enough to open a dialog with the OTHER people who also have good information and ideas.
But enough about that soap opera...
I have questions about "the rules".
Not that I plan to use any, but what about stevia? Refined? Leaf only? Of course, who sweetens meat?
Coconut: I get the part about no coconut FOOD, however a limited amount of, say, coconut curry, kind of falls into the VLC sauce category. Mind you, I'm talking about a couple of tablespoons on a steak, not a soup... until March anyway.

This is Dean's baby, but I'd think the sauce you described would be fine. The stevia might be a different story though. We'll see what Dean and the others say bout that.
You're right about AC. He does have alot of good info. It's just that his people skills are a bit lacking. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

I'm thinking the sauces fall into the seasoning category, i.e., NOT a coconut curry as a dish, but perhaps (as said) a curry sauce as a topping, seasoning or marinade, that couple of tablespoons perhaps being a maximum.
As for stevia (and other non-artificial sweeteners), well, that could get very interesting, as weekend-ly my DH and I have a dessert pact, and I can foresee a single serve lemon curd made with a TBSP of lemon juice, a couple of eggs and some non-intensive non-artificial sweeteners...I see those as legal, though not the LC ice cream I specialize in... (I better polish off that vanilla/chocolate swirl in the fridge) ...being an LC professional cook/personal chef has its interesting -- and dangerous -- side.
I can also foresee a few days where I may need to be more social, in a workplace manner of speaking, and ingest a salad with blue cheese dressing or some such; I would definitely knock those days off my Carnivorous February total. Too much vegetation and sauce.

Personally, I would say no to sweeteners. They really aren't in the spirit of this exercise, you know? Plus, there is a lot of evidence that, although non-caloric, that they stimulate the same hormonal cascade as sugar does. Yes, even stevia.
But then, I'd also say no to seasonings. And CO and coffee. But I'm clearly in the minority there.
Really, this is just turning into what a lot of us already do, in terms of diet. I'm kind of losing the point of it. _________________ Red |

I think if you have any type of ZC/VLC sauce, and you use it with utmost discretion, fine, it will be like Jude said, a seasoning. Leave it to your judgment. The Red Hot chicken wing sauce and Tabasco sauce both say ZC (that's zero carb and calorie).

I agree with Red about the stevia. For the reasons she states, they aren't in the spirit of this Contest, nor in the rules (see the OP that says "no artificial sweeteners").
| Red wrote: | But then, I'd also say no to seasonings. And CO and coffee. But I'm clearly in the minority there. |
And that is why I included seasonings and coffee, cuz I know how incredibly difficult it is to eat only plain meat. Did it for 15 days straight last April, just plain beef and pork, and only water to drink. It was way too hard, and talk about a minority position!
| Red wrote: | Really, this is just turning into what a lot of us already do, in terms of diet. I'm kind of losing the point of it. |
We'll see, Red. I have a feeling that this WOE is not all that common. I really hope I'm wrong, and we have a huge TOTAL come March, but we shall see. That's why this is a Contest, a Challenge and an Experiment all rolled up into one.
And, as Jude said, there will be some days you just won't be able to tally up one for yourself (and the group). That's one of the purposes of this thread, to see how many total days we can all eat "modern carnivore", for lack of a better name. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

| i think the list is pretty clear and if we continue to tweak it...well, we might as well quit before we start. i took seasoning to mean salt, pepper, dry rub kind of stuff. if we get into sauces other than pure hot sauce, we might as well add ketchup, mayo, bbq, etc. i'm a stevia user and already decided i would not use it on carnivore days. all the dairy allowed makes this a pretty do-able contest. |

| Maybe we should look at the requirements of Steffanson's Bellevue experiment, the one where he ate only meat for a year. Consider that as a baseline, and maybe just add eggs and dairy to it. |

jem, these were my thoughts as well.
If you wanna take a look at another similar Challenge, go look at the April Zero Carb Challenge
http://magicbus.myfreeforum.org/about602.html
It ended up with three levels, and in the end I think there was almost no participation.
I wanted this Feb Contest to be one people could actually do, but still have it be meaningful in jump starting VLC eating. It is amazing what getting away from certain foods will do for you. This will allow people to get away from the addictive and crazy foods they normally eat without even thinking about it. If someone wants to be more strict than this, they can. The main thing is, if they go 29 days on this WOE, they will be able to stick to an eating plan they can truly live with after that, no matter what small amount of "toxic treats" it contains. Doing that 15 days of plain beef and pork with water really helped me get further into my WOE. This carnivore contest is gonna help me get free of many things I have been wanting to ditch, like coconut, berries, half & half, etc. I hope it will help others accomplish similar goals. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

I'm going to be one of the strict ones (I hope). I do not do coffee so no dairy other than maybe a little cheese, and very few spices on my meat, and maybe some tabasco on eggs if I eat any. I'm ready! |

Will...it isn't Feb yet. Still have time to think about it :D |
wifezilla,
You gave me an idea, and yesterday I picked up some sour cream and some pork rinds. I put a bunch of sour cream in a bowl tonight and I shook in a bunch of dashes of Tabasco sauce, stirred it up and used it as a dip for the pork rinds. mmmmmmmmmm good stuff!
Thanks for the suggestion. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

I'm new to the board and new to these challenges. So just to be clear, for the purpose of THIS challenge, if, hypothetically, the bus is driving by a bar and I decide to hop off and have a drink, the bus will wait for me and not drive off?
We are going for total success days in Feb and not days till fail, right?
Some days just need a Caribbean holiday, mon.

As Red said, any day during the 29 days of Feb that you eat "on plan" (spelled out in the opening post of this thread), then you can add a day to your count (and the TOTAL).
Just copy and paste the latest tally into a new post.
Add another day to the count for your row and the TOTAL row.
Then Submit the new tally.
