I also suspect it may not be gluten but something else. I do react strongly to organ meats and these have always come from a farm where bison and beef are fed no grains at all (+ organic), just pasture and hay. Too much of organ meats and it makes me sleepy, almost instantly AND drowsy, like if I'm drugged. Surprisingly or strangely, the effect was usually observed if I ate in the morning vs at night. At times, I also ate muscle meat from that farm but can't remember if it had the same effect.
Eating too much supermarket beef also makes me drowsy and sleepy but I always ate it with supermarket beef bone marrow. So, which is to blame? Maybe the combination of both. When eating bone marrow with New Zealand lamb, I usually get a strong sinus reaction...lots of mucus accumulation in my sinuses that I immediately cough up.
As of this morning, I actually changed my diet including New Zealand Lamb only, fresh, not prefrozen. Eaten with virgin coconut oil only, to ensure adequate fat intake. I cut out the avocado. Since I woke up this morning, I've been feeling bloated. Not a good feeling. Maybe dut to the fibre in avocado. Who knows?
I still don't know if coconut oil+NZ lamb is the right combo for me (didn't get sleepy or drowsy this morning, blocked ear still better) but assuming it's the food chemicals, where would I get my fat from, as coconut is high in that? What would be the perfect diet for me? I think you may be on to something, with the chemical thing.
Thanks to everyone for their input and help. Love you guys!

Lamb is generally very low in amines (as is veal and skinless poultry) and I think that's mainly because it's not aged before selling, like beef is. The trick is finding the freshest meat available. Organ meats and fish (unless it's white fish caught the day its eaten) are incredibly high in amines, so if you react to organs, it's probably the amines. I'd say try to stick to the fattest and freshest meat you can find and don't worry so much about the 80/20 ratio, at least until you get your symptoms sorted out. If you improve, then you'll know it was the amines. Can you have egg yolks? Eggs are very low-chemical. _________________ Red |

I don't react well to egg yolks. Sometimes, I get terrible stomach cramps.
I know coconut is high in amines (and salicylates) but I don't see how coconut oil would be. Wouldn't the amines be eliminated in the process of extracting the oil?
In any case, today has been pretty good in regards to sinuses. So, I'll stick to coconut oil + NZ lamb (fresh and high quality meat) for now. NZ lamb is not available fresh year-round, half the year, is prefrozen and vacuum packed. When that time of the year comes, I'll decide what to do. Maybe try it once and see how I react. If bad reaction, then purchase fresh veal/lamb instead, although of lesser quality (not pasture-fed or organic). I actually know a place where they sell veal that is pretty fatty. FAT is my FRIEND! _________________ "When you give up your dream, you die" |

I tried this last night and I gotta say, it was great. Aside from it being a little bit runny, this is just the right replacement for barbeque sauce. It would be good on chicken too.

I react horribly to CO. Not sure if it's the amines or the salicylates, as I react to both. I get very very emotional, very angry and aggressive and break out in a red rash all over my face. _________________ Red |

Hi Everyone,
Kept on track again today but was hungrier than normal. Ground beef and eggs for breakfast, pork ribs for lunch and chicken wings for supper. The chipotle tabasco and butter sounds good, maybe I will take wings in that sauce for lunch tomorrow.

Finally cracked double digits :) Eggs, sausage, butter, cheese, cream/tea, steak, blue cheese butter sauce. Num.
Kristelle, sounds frustrating. Any farmer's markets around you that sell pastured meats? _________________ www.fearandloathinginthekitchen.com |

I must say that for the past few days I haven't been feeling to well. One thing I changed is I orderd some Hydro C from the Fiber Menance website which is supposed to help with constipation while transitioning to a low fiber diet. All it contains is Vitamin C, Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium. You drink it in water in the morning. I also started taking a probiotic. My digestion has been kind of messed up for years. Well I started feeling a little nausea in the evening before going to bad. So yesterday I didn't take the probiotic but still felt a little nausea in the evening. Yesterday I ate roast beef with butter for lunch and for dinner I ate country style ribs with the tabasco butter sauce. Also last night during my sleep I had an acid reflux episode which I haven't had since I cut out all the junk. And I have been getting slight headaches. I have one this morning. So I think I will skip the Hydro C today and the probiotic until I return to normal and then maybe try the probiotic alone. I don't take any supplements as I don't really know what to take and what brands are best. That reminds me of something else. Last night I took a multivitamin mineral supplement. That could be the source of the reflux. I found what looked like a good brand but it had soy in it. YUK

Good news...
It appears my sinus problem has disappeared for good. Coconut oil+fresh lamb, IT IS! I'm staying away from anything aged, vaccum packed or bone marrow, including gelatin. No fish, no beef. I don't trust ground meat.
Amines are EVIL! Genetics, I guess. Seems to occur in my family, from mom to grandma. Oh well...
I'm a happy camper. _________________ "When you give up your dream, you die" |

Well...
I found a place where they sell "kosher" beef (unhung=unaged, spoke with the butcher) and very fatty cut, fresh. It's called choulent or dafina. Small cubes of beef, half of which (even sometimes more) is pure fat. These actually look delicious. Can't wait to eat them tonight.
They also sell veal ribs, with plenty of fat on it but still less fatty than what I bought. Veal is also usually leaner than beef. But, I have alternatives. In the non "kosher" part of the store, their lamb is very fatty too. They also sell fishheads, a wide variety of fish, fish eggs, salmon with bones, you name it (but, still staying away from fish)...This place is super! It is located in an area where many ethnic minorities live and that's probably why. I'm jewish so kosher is right up my alley! Although I don't practice or don't really believe in the religion or any monotheist religion, for that matter. But, I respect all beliefs. To each their own.
So, I'm gonna stick to that and that ONLY. No coconut oil. Actually, coconut oil appears to give me stomach cramps and just this morning, when I ate a few tablespoons, my sinus started acting up again
Plus, I don't really believe in vegetable anything (i.e. rubbish). Except for medicinal purposes.
So, it's all meat and animal fat for me. Let's see what happens. Ohhhhh... the struggles I'm going through to get this right, LOL. But, I'm gonna get it right...you watch me! _________________ "When you give up your dream, you die" |

I'm glad you're ditching the CO. It really is not good for people with amine/chemical sensitivities. And sometimes reactions can be delayed, so I'm not surprised the sinus thingy came back.
Awesome about the kosher butcher! What a find. _________________ Red |

Quick little update...maybe I should start a journal...
Anyways, so I tasted the kosher meat and it was SALTY!!! Apparently, it's part of the process of extracting the blood from the animal. But, I like blood.
It also appears that their liver is salted and broiled before it's sold because it contains even more blood.
Wasn't pleased at all b/c of the salt thingy (I don't use any salt or spices in my diet) AND b/c I plan to eat liver from time to time and I like my liver RAW, not cooked AT ALL.
So, I returned those packages that I hadn't opened and then went to the non kosher section. Found myself 4 packs of fresh lamb fat (local) with a little meat on it. Combined that fat with the fresh meat from New Zealand which I still had in the fridge. Was very good...delicious in fact.
I think this is it. This has to be the FINAL combination or I'm gonna go crazy...LOL. Plus, I spoke with the butcher and asked if they provided this lamb fat on a regular basis and they said yes. So, that's good.
To summarize, NZ lamb (when fresh) usually late fall to late spring + local lamb fat AND the rest of the year, local lamb/veal + local lamb/veal fat. With some veal liver (cause it's the best tasting liver) occasionally to get sufficient vitamin A.
Good night. _________________ "When you give up your dream, you die" |

Hi,
Today was a high calorie day (I am calorie cycling and zero carbing) and I had the best thing happen to me. I had a big lunch (carpaccio, wings and ribs) and was not hungry at supper time so I just had a bit of barbecue steak (It took me 30 minutes to shovel a path to the barbecue which was almost buried in snow but it was worth it). Leftover steak tomorrow for lunch. I am now halfway through my personal 10 day carnivore challenge. I feel so good that I might just go longer. The veggie cravings are now completely gone.

Well I'm sorry to say I don't get to post a day for yesterday but hey I'm only 2 days off for the month so I guess that's something to be proud of for me. I went to a luncheon yesterday and chicken was on the menu and I thought it was just going to be plain chicken breast with seasoning but it was breaded. So what the hell I ate it and the vegies, salad, and dessert. One thing I still haven't gotten under control is when I'm off the bus, even for a meal then I use that excuse to eat whatever I want for the rest of the day. Granted, I don't eat near as much as I used to eat, but I am still bad. I stopped by the candy store on my way home from work and got chocolate. This is a real learning process.

Yesterday didn't count - I had 2 packets of Splenda in a 2 Cafe Amercicanos while I was out (didn't occur to me until I'd already added it - d'oh) so I treated myself to two squares of Lindt and a SF root beer mixed with cream - OMG good stuff. What I find hilarious is that, in all the days I've gone off carnivory, only one day has been due to vegetables! I don't miss them, nor do I feel any different without them. (I like them though, most of them anyway)
Though I am viewing them differently - more like true side dishes, or as additional ingredients (like in a stew). Wonder if I'll feel differently once the warmer weather is here.
Kristelle, great find! Valcan, congrats! We haven't BBQed in awhile, been far too cold here in TO to brave it. Wifezilla, glad the hormonal derangement is clearing up! _________________ www.fearandloathinginthekitchen.com |

It's cold here too but my barbeque is pretty close to my sliding glass door and I just shovel the snow out of the way. The only time I couldn't use the grill was when the wind was blowing so hard, it would stay lit.

Hi,
Today was a lower calorie day. Eggs, steak and fish. Today is day 6 in a row of carnivore and I have not dropped any weight. How frustrating. After KK I stalled for 2.5 months, dropped four pounds in a couple of weeks and have not lost again for about a month. What's up with that? I fell off the bus for five days a Christmas and one meal since Christmas. My clothes do feel a bit loser, could I be storing water in my fat cells? I hope so.
Thanks for the encouragement Kristelle.
Tracy, what is too cold? If I can stand outside in a parka and not freeze, I can barbecue. Anything above -10 C is barbecue weather for me.

Cold is okay - it's been the insanely biting wind that's keeping us from the bbq! We're in a small apartment complex (above storefronts) and have no balcony, so standing out in front of the building in -15 windchill is COLD, esp being close to Lake Ontario (it's pretty much down the street from me)

I BBQ in all weather, but like Tracy says, when that wind kicks up, it makes it impossible. I oven BBQed pork ribs the other day. Not quite as good as grilling, but close enough :D _________________ http://wifezillasway.blogspot.com/ |
