My journal was getting too quiet...
I am continuing with my Fast Twitch training. I am pleased with my progress. I was tracking my heart rate during workouts, and am amazed how some of the lifts get my heartrate well above 90% of maximum. A session of compound lifts at this intensity turns out to be quite an interval training session on it's own.
I am not going to lie and say that I love every minute of the intense workouts, but I do love how it feels to meet each new challenge and conquer it.
As far as eating and weight loss... I am focusing mostly on behavior goals and maintenance. As long as my clothes are fitting well, and I like how my body is looking, then I am not going to worry about that for a while. I just get sick of putting so much importance on a scale. It can seem so ridiculous. Besides, I am sure that I may add a few pounds of muscle in the next few months, and I don't want the scale to make me feel stressed about that. KWIM?
Here is a song that has been stuck in my head lately.

Wow, is that song really over 30 years old? I'm getting old.
Heather, I think it makes alot of sense for some people to ignore the scale. And I think you're one of those people. With the type of workouts you do, you are obviously going to be building some muscle. The number on the scale is going to tell you little, if anything. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Jeff- I know it is shocking to realize that song is 30 years old. I love so much of the music from the 70's, I guess it takes me back. |

I thought I would stop in and give a summary of what I am doing right now.
I am still lifting weights about 3 or 4 times per week. I also do some interval work a couple times a week, and some easy walking or yoga when I want to. I have absolutely no desire to go back to my chronic cardio. This method feels better, saves me a lot of time in the gym, and has been working so well with my body. I have been losing inches WITHOUT keeping a tight reign on my food intake. This never happens for me, no matter how low I have kept the carbs.
I think that for me the weight training means much better fat burning than the cardio gave me. My very worst stalls have happened when I dropped lifting for awhile and increased my cardio-- like the mainstream trainers recommend. I can't believe how much my shoulders are changing. My DH was noticing how my delts and traps feel so much harder. I am lucky that he likes that I am strong. I know that some guys are turned off by muscle... I know I don't really understand that, since I love to see a guy that looks strong and healthy.
I was thinking this morning while I was lifting how the weight training area is full of men (gotta love that ) and the cardio area is loaded with mostly women, and a few men. If I see men at my gym doing cardio, they are usually running on the track, and not using the machines. I started to wonder if this could contribute to how men seem to lose weight more easily than women. Hmm. Admittedly, it probably has much more to do with testosterone, and types of fat cells, but this tendency could play into it as well. |

I don't get that either. I think maybe some men are intimidated by strong women (mentally and physically), and that's what turns them off. But that's just my armchair psychology opinion
Sounds like you are in a really good place. Have a good weekend.

I'm just the opposite. That's what turns me on. Strong, smart, confident women. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

I wish there were more men like you around Dean, because I scare the crap out of a lot of them. I don't mean to, it just happens. And I am not attracted to submissive men at all...so it's hard to find one. _________________ Flap-a-doodle-kick-a-poodle-kitty-kitty-cow-cow ~ Fat Freddy's Cat |

Karen- I think you might be right. If they don't like strong and independant, then they might as well get lost anyway. lol
Dean- Strong, smart and confident... that sounds like some of the great guys here.
yOu-- I agree with you. A submissive guy just doesn't do it for me, however the strong and silent type can be compelling. |

Well, since they have no residency requirements, they may substantially boost their tourism. _________________ When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

I was surprised to see it in the news. Maybe now people will quit mistaking Iowa for Idaho. (doesn't anyone pay attention in geography class? ) Dean, I wouldn't be surprised if we do see some tourism from the decision.
yOu- I am also Iowa born and raised. I love the people, and the farmland, but I am not so crazy about all the snow. The snow is only fun for a month, too bad it lasts 4 months or more. |

Yes, I have been there, but only a few times. That t-shirt would make me laugh. I,m not sure if non-Iowans would get it, but I sure do. |

Heather, isn't it fun venturing to the weight lifting area???? I miss that since we started building up our home gym over the years. I used to go lift later at night when I was single. We even had a bar! Always strong fun, strong, muscular men at the bar after lifting! :) Those were the days....

Jessica- I love venturing into the testosterone zone (free weight room). There are some very nice, strong, fun guys working out there. We don't have any really huge lifters, just the average fit muscle guys... I love the scenery. |

Wow, it has been so long since I posted in my journal. Over the summer I backed off of the weight training just a bit and did more outdoor activities... hiking, bike riding, walking, and swimming. Now that summer is winding down, and my 2 kids are back in school, I have been getting back into my old routine.
Right now I am lifting 3 times a week and doing various cardio 3 times a week or so. Some of my strength numbers went down from less weight training over the summer, but not by very much. I just wanted to mix things up a bit... glad I didn't lose too much of the muscle strength.
I went on vacation to Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior. I love the hiking and the scenery there. I took some great pictures of the area, including some waterfalls that I just love. I'll try to post a few soon.
I haven't been posting much, but I have been stopping by to read the posts. Glad to see so many new faces around the bus. |

Hi Heather, good to see you. I've been to the south shore of Lake Superior, but not the north shore. That sounds like a great time. _________________ Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We'll Die |

Jeff- It is beautiful there with the rocky cliffs, the trees, the rock waterfalls, fabulous hiking, and the views of the lake. I also like how the summer weather is so mild... no need for air conditioning. If I could do it, I would love to live up there. I think I'd be out hiking all summer long.
