Just curious..when you took Metformin..did you still feel this way?  I forgot why you stopped taking it in the first place.

Thanks for the home test kit info btw..I had heard something about that as well.  I think it won't cost too much at a lab though. (crossing fingers).

I hope this IF works for you.  When I was working evenings exclusively I just ate 2 meals a day..often 14-16 hours apart..I am trying to get back to that as well.  I try and wait until I am really hungry to eat...and always exercise before I eat.  It's weird..but for me exercise doesn't make me super hungry..just really "high".

y0u, I did not feel like this on Metformin - in fact, that drug was awesome for me. It curbed my appetite, kept my insulin levels in check and helped me lose weight with regular run of the mill low carb eating.

I stopped taking the Metformin at 6 weeks into my pregnancy (which I fought but the doctor insisted and I was scared I might harm my baby). I had a really rough pregnancy and ended up on bedrest and gained 60lbs. I couldn't wait to get back on my Metformin!! Unfortunately something happened after my pregnancy and it was completely ineffective. I noticed right away that it didn't seem the same and I tried a different generic, the name brand and then tried the extended release version as well. My doctor ran bloodwork again and said that my insulin levels were sky high and worse than ever - for whatever reason (hormonal changes after having a baby?) the drug just didn't work for me anymore. I tried a different one with no luck again and then started searching for something I could do myself...and eventually ended up here.

Just gotta stick to the grind and eventually my body will have to relent and act 'normal'...I hope  Wink

Hi MM!

How is the one meal a day going? I hope you are doing great!

Just did that myself for one day, yesterday, and lost 7 ounces. Hey, some was water I know, But maybe we are onto something here.

I had been previously stalling. I may make this my stall breaker from now on. And also I'm hearing good things about coconut oil breaking a stall. I happen to have some and will start using it.

Hey Surfergirl - I think that IF is a great way to break a stall or drop poundage a little faster. Awesome weight loss!!

Unfortunately, I'm not doing it at the moment. My stress level has maxed and I've stopped the fasting as well as tracking calories, weighing in, etc. At the moment I am just stuffing myself with meat/fat/cheese whenever I feel the urge. I'm just trying to avoid the dreaded 'feel sorry for myself' full on carb binge. It's all I can do at the moment, but I'll be back to one meal a day very soon!

MM I'm not making excuses for you but I understand your situation. People who have severe blood glucose issues have the most diffiuclty with cravings, weight loss, glucose fluctuations, etc. I see the struggles all the time on all the boards. Getting all these issues under control is pure hell. I don't have them so I can't give advice but have you read any books by Dr. Richard Bernstein? Or checked the diabetic threads on the low carb boards?

I don't have this issue too much anymore..but for the record...I do go to bed hungry sometimes...and I drink coffee in the morning and wait until noonish to eat..even if I am hungry..just so I eat 2 meals.  I try and keep busy and not think about food.  Some people may think this is wrong but it's how I have lost weight and kept my calories down.

I am chhosing to become thin instead of eating too much.  I know what a hard struggle this has been for you..and once you get some more of the weight off..your body will heal itself and this will all become easier..I promise...stay strong...exercise...have a lot of sex... Grin

Weigh in was good yesterday - I'm hoping to be posting the weight again very soon (just waiting till I'm back down to 301).

IF is going pretty good as well. I really do think this will be the answer for me for a while, it takes quite a bit of self control but the reward of consuming all my calories in one sitting sits very well with me. Until I get some kind of control on my hunger/full issues, this is what will work.

Surfergirl - I'd like to brand my forehead with "DUMBASS* somedays LOL

Heather - It's so funny you mention the voices - I have LONG arguments with the voices in my head  ROTFL there is ALWAYS one voice telling me it's ok to just have 'one' cookie. I've been doing quite well these last few days telling them to 'shut the f*ck up!! Thanks!

Kate - I have read Dr. Berstein's stuff - he's a small light in an otherwise very dark tunnel of eating advice for diabetics.  I've done a LOT of damage to my system over the years. The worst of which was probably when I lost 100lbs by 'dieting' in the worst possible way - zero fat, low calories, high carb. I paid the price with hair loss, muscle loss etc. It wasn't until a caring gyno who actually listened to me and diagnosed me with PCOS and extreme insulin resistance that I knew what direction to go in. The cravings ARE hell and I just have to get past it - I also have to get past the fact that every time I walk into my kitchen I will be face to face with all those beckoning carb laden enemies. *shrug* It's just the way it is, and that's ok...I'll get through it. Thanks for the hug and support. I know what works...I just have to keep going and focus on mini goals. I'm just a few pounds away from being at my pre-pregnancy weight and I can't wait to be there!

y0u - I am so inspired by y0ur success! And the weight seems to be dropping easier for you now more than ever. I know how hard you've worked to get where you are and I think you've really healed your system. Unfortunately, I think calories are an issue for me too - I wish they weren't but you can't discount personal evidence so there it is. I too have decided to be smaller over eating too much or eating what I really want, I just need to consistently remind myself of that! Thanks for the pep talk! I've started the sex therapy Cool , although not with a hot 30-something  LOL he's not bad  Wink

Scale is being very kind to me these last few mornings...we're friends again  LOL

I'm excited to see what official weigh in will bring (Saturday).

Company is coming on Wednesday for around a week - this always makes things doubly hard but I am set in my resolve. They are traditional 'healthy' eaters - lots of whole grains, low fat etc. We will just have to make cooking separate meals work. It will be one busy kitchen!

Company can be hard.   I had a house guest a few weeks ago and it all turned out so much better than I had hoped..I never ate off plan..just a few more veggies than usual..but still kept my carbs really low.

There are plenty of meaty dishes you can make for your guests..or fish if they don't do that..OH GOD..they are not vegetarians are they? *scowl*

And even if they are...maybe they secretly want to eat a steak?  I fed a Muslim pork the other day (he fully knew)...and ate it up..

Oh..and for the record...the 30 something YO was just a trial run..now I am playing with a 40 YO....who I actually like better anyway..

MM,

What I've done in the past regarding IF is to just go as long as possible after waking not eating anything. Perhaps, when I was drinking it, I'd have some java, but, that was it for as long as possible each day. This is the best way to train your body to not desire food, and to heal your metabolism, IMO. It keeps getting easier and easier the longer you keep going back to doing it. You'll see. Great way to lose the desire to graze. Carnivores don't graze. Wink

Eventually, even during times of eating crap, I would be limiting the amount naturally, cuz, I just don't have the desire to eat more than once or twice a day. Some people will tell you you are "starving" yourself. Don't confuse fasting with starving. Only intentionally eating super low calories is what is "starving" yourself, but, you won't be doing that, cuz your one (or two) meals a day will contain plenty of good animal protein and fat. So, this notion of "starving" yourself cuz you fast (do IF) is ridiculous. Don't listen to those lies.

And, one more tip. You might wanna tell your hubby that from now on the only way he can eat junk food is if he eats it off your body. That will kill two birds with one bone... I mean stone. Devil

Hang in there. You have a GREAT attitude, and that will take you farther than anything. Yup

Thanks Dean, sorry about your Dad.

I'm nearly over my sickies - still have a lingering sore throat but that's about it.

Last night I was ganged up on and beat down about my WOE by family and my DH - hubby even went so far as to say he thinks I'm in denial about the 'whole meat thing'. I'm being treated like I have some kind of mental illness because I think there is nothing wrong with Saturated fat and eat chicken skin frequently. I don't know why they even care so much!!

Anyway...

F*CK EM! I may be beaten down but I am NOT defeated. I think I'll remind hubby today that I keep my mouth shut while he shoves enormous amounts of processed chemical laden crap (by ANY diet's terms) down his throat, I'd appreciate the same respect from him. Bottom line...I'm an adult and can eat what I like. I was more than a little hurt that he threw me under the bus in front of other people.

Someday....I'll be having the last laugh.

I am so sorry your family is not being supportive..but it will get better.  As you start to lose more weight and get healthier they will start to support you more.  This happened with my father..now he cannot believe how good I look.  He told me the other day that I am beginning to look like I did when I was in my early 20's.

I watch him take so many pills for heart, blood pressure, cancer, cholesterol etc...he never eats red meat or egg yolks or butter..he eats grains and pastries etc...I asked him the other day if maybe..just maybe all the pills he takes and the way he eats have brought his cancer back..he cannot grasp that concept...if only he could take what he has seen me do and apply it to himself..

Remember...you are doing this for yourself..and your children.. Heart

Made a whole Bear's Chicken and a huge Boston Butt - the whole house smells divine. Successfully IF'ing again.

I'm a slacker...Oh...it doesn't look like it from the outside.

I manage to take care of my kid all day AND still work and bring home 1/2 the income. I do all the cooking, the cleaning, the laundry, the finances, and many home repairs too. So...how am I a slacker?

I work hard to take care of my family and my house but I slack when taking care of myself. I am a slacker when it comes to doing what I need to do for myself. I have good intentions but I get lax.

The scale and I had a big fight this morning and I'm craving horrible things again so it's time to reel in the lax.

In exactly one month I'm going to be rooming with two vegetarians and spending a week with family in a reunion style fashion with Holiday style meals and deserts. I MUST be at my strongest to tackle this.

So...back to basics - no more snacking!! No more bites or tastes of anything not on the list (Halloween be damned). Starting Wednesday (I've got Chili cooking that I need to finish up) - this will be my list:  

Meat
Fat
Water
Butter

That's it - I'm giving up spices this time around (I've never done this before) and I'm also giving up cheese which will be tough but I've done it before so I can do it again. I'm also giving up pork rinds because they are just too snack friendly.

I plan on sticking with my IF schedule which is 1 meal M-F and two meals on the weekends.

I didn't make it in October but it looks like those 8 lbs I gained are finally gone. Official weigh in isn't until Saturday but I am hoping it will stick. Now that I'm back where I was again...only down to go and so very very close to kissing the f'ing 300's away!!

My next mini goal is actually 298 and I WILL see it this month...I absolutely WILL!!

I tried upping my fat tonight and am really paying the price - BAD idea - lol.

I'm having a few issues that I thought might be fat related - my hair is falling out again (hasn't happened in years) and I'm weak as a kitten - my muscles are just blech...so weak. I feel alright otherwise - in fact, I feel pretty good but something is just 'off'.

The fat wasn't it (that's for sure)...so now I'm thinking it's hormonal. Hopefully it's just some kind of shift for the better that will level off soon. (I'm also very horny lately - which is a bit unusual).
